How long for test results?

Hi

DH has gone to get tested this morning at one of the drive through centres. It says it takes 48 hours for the results. Has anyone else done this please? Was it 48 hours, sooner or longer for results? Thanks!

I have been this morning also but seem unable to register my barcode. I signed up online and they sent my appointment and QR code via my mobile. I rang the helpline and they said they are having system problems. I dont know if I'm registered or not!

mnahmnah · 29/04/2020 15:33

DH said it was all very complicated and confusing. Did you find that? Apparently he was shown several cards of information on a flip chart type thing. All too quick for him to read properly and take in. Then given several pieces of paper that contradicted what he read on the flip chart. Three different bags. Instructions for a box, but he didn’t have a box. One guy said he’d done it wrong. Another said he’d done it right. He hasn’t even tried the online bit yet!

My husband got tested Friday afternoon and got the results Saturday evening

GenderApostate19 · 29/04/2020 15:42

Literally just had our results, tested Monday night at a drive in centre at Manchester airport.
Both negative 🙄 DH definitely has it and my minor symptoms fit.
I think the false neg rate for self administered swabs will go through the roof.

Lightsabre · 29/04/2020 15:51

Almost 48 hours for me - tested S London. I also found the process confusing and wasn't sure I'd done it properly. I was negative but tested on Day 28 ish of symptoms.

At home, I tried to scan the barcode - it uploaded but wouldn't enter. I called the helpline and they said that's fine as they scanned the box as well as my QR code.

Lightsabre · 29/04/2020 15:53

I would not have been able to take this test on Day 3 as recommended as I was too ill and couldn't get out of bed. I couldn't get hold of a home test but I understand they're releasing more of these from now on.

Lighteninginabottle27 · 29/04/2020 15:59

The actual process was ok, I was done in Yorkshire. The staff were lovely. I put my vial and absorbent pad into the bio hazard bag with silver seal and sealed it but they told.me that was wrong, I was supposed to put them into a ziplock bag first. I redid the bagging bit and when I looked at the sheet if defo said they go into the bio hazard bag without using another bag first. Other than that no problem.
They must have my mobile number because they sent a QR code to it and everything was scanned to death.

@GenderApostate19 you seem disappointed that you don’t have it?

EC22 · 29/04/2020 16:45

I had mine on day 11 of having symptoms.
Positive result within 2 1/2 days. I got my result at 9pm (text message).

GenderApostate19 · 29/04/2020 16:45

I’m disappointed that these tests are neither use nor ornament and will contribute to the spread of covid.
A covid team doctor who calls DH on a daily basis seems pretty sure DH has it.

I’m very worried that vast numbers of people are now being told that they don’t have it, despite clear symptoms and will now resume going back out to work straight away, putting others at risk.
A 30% failure rate in the tests is shocking and I’m convinced it will go even higher due to self administered tests.
DH will NOT be going back to work until 14 days have passed, he should be back on shift this Sunday but he still feels quite ill in any case.

EC22 · 29/04/2020 16:48

Mine was at a drive through centre in Scotland.
It was extremely simple. Showed my idea via closed window.
Got to testing area, rolled down window, soldier took throat then nose swab taken by with same swab and then drove away.

DownyBuds · 29/04/2020 16:52

I’m really worried about that too Gender. Loads of posts on here from people who are positive they have it but test negative

GenderApostate19 · 29/04/2020 17:02

The official guidance is that you can go straight back to work after a negative test, despite WHO advice to quarantine for two weeks regardless.
DH’s employer are following WHO advice for symptoms but he is the 1st person to have been tested and been negative, they are short staffed and will need him back as he is an engineering manager.

Lindy2 · 29/04/2020 17:04

DH and I were tested on Sunday. We got a text and email with the results exactly 47 hours later. (Negative test result).

Lindy2 · 29/04/2020 17:08

We went to a drive through test centre rather than doing a self test.
It was quick and easy. It's not particularly pleasant being swabbed but it was over and done with in just a few seconds.

mnahmnah · 29/04/2020 17:51

It seems there are different experiences. DH was at Haydock racecourse. He had to go through four checkpoints with ID each time. He was shown the website in a flash card only and can’t see it on the paperwork. There is w chance he’s doing a ‘man look’ as I call it. But I can’t go near him to look or talk properly.

There are other viruses available! I only went because a mum friend has tested positive with very mild symptoms. No temp and no cough. My manager told me I have a duty to be tested because I'm a frontline worker.

I am however baffled as to why some front line workers can be tested without having symptoms. You'd surely have to be going every few days for a test? If it was for antigens I would understand that.

mnahmnah · 01/05/2020 15:38

Still. Or heard anything. 55 hours since testing. The paperwork says text or email, nothing about anywhere online to get results. He’s checked his junk email too. Really just need to know. Trying to stop our young DC going into the bedroom he’s quarantining in is hard work.

*still not heard

DH has actually just rung the help desk. They can’t give results. It can give information. They said it’s taking up to 5 days now due to the sudden influx of testing

Badhairday101 · 01/05/2020 16:03

My grandad got tested on Monday and it came back Tuesday, took around 24 hours. We are also north west but this was done in a care home not a test centre so may be a different process.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 02/05/2020 07:24

I went to a drive through test centre on Thursday 31st at 11.30. Had the text and the email this morning at 6am. Negative result.

Rach000 · 02/05/2020 08:35

I am also not sure how useful a test is for those going to work at a hospital or care home who dont have symptoms. I guess it will be good to see if you have it and not yet showing symptoms. But you could get infected a couple of days later. So do you need to keep doing the test?

mnahmnah · 04/05/2020 08:48

Well it’s been exactly 5 days since the test and still no result!

OP posts:
MrsZlatan · 04/05/2020 10:51

I had a drive through test in Yorkshire on Tuesday still not result here either Confused

Lightsabre · 04/05/2020 11:18

Maybe give the help line another ring. They should at least be able to check you've registered correctly and when the results are likely to come.
