Am I missing something? Everyone seems to have gone back to normal?!

So much traffic here today, we live on a main road and it's been quiet for weeks now but today it's suddenly back to how it was pre lockdown.
Loads of people out on the streets, in quite big groups, a massive load of runners in a group just gone by and earlier a huge group of cyclists
And I've not been watching out particularly we our living room looks out over the road and I've been stuck under DS with the windows open and just looked up when I've heard noise.
Do you think people have had enough and just gone back to normal after all the media articles this week?
Did I miss an announcement? Not being disingenuous honestly wondering, I can't find anything online

We noticed it straight away when we went walking today, we usually avoid walking at the weekend but hadn't been out for a couple of days as have been working in the garden.
Since the lockdown the roads have been really quiet and the town deserted but not today. The queue outside Waitrose was the longest I've seen here. I had no intention of going in, just passing. Thankfully and rather oddly the park was pretty quiet.

I think people are taking any media rumours of a relaxation as red and starting the family and friends bubble before anyone has even said it's going to happen. DIY stores opening will obviously cause people who can still afford to buy stuff to go and get things for projects to relieve their boredom.
Disappointing if it's all been for nothing.

My city is very quiet still. Yes more cars and people out than two weeks ago but airlines dramatically down from normal life. Everyone social distancing and being thoughtful - I’m glad as mental health is important too.

Newgirls · 25/04/2020 18:44

Airlines?!! Still!

billysboy · 25/04/2020 18:45

had the police in the wood opposite evicting about 20 teenagers having a party about 8 o clock lastnight

Newgirls · 25/04/2020 18:47

Fourtea I think you are right about the weather - we will prob all stay in when the rain comes this week

CHARLonodn90 · 25/04/2020 18:49

Not sure where you are but London’s forecasted for cloud and rain for about 8 days starting Monday. I welcome this wholeheartedly as it will make staying in with nowhere to go ao much easier!

GivenchyDahhling · 25/04/2020 18:51

My parents live in France and the garden centre and hardware shops near them have just unilaterally opened again - and these are national chains, not just independent rule-breakers (unlike here these places aren’t supposed to be essential). There seems to be a sea change across a number of countries.

talktalk2020 · 25/04/2020 18:54

Still pretty damn quiet here in SW London...

EducatingArti · 25/04/2020 18:58

Those who say they are going to go out and about and not observe social distancing rules because they are fed up of the mess the government is making are not really being logical. The coronavirus isn't suddenly going to become less dangerous because the government isn't managing things well.
Also, it is all very well to say that you personally are willing to accept a little more risk in order to be out and about a bit more. It doesn't work like that though. You exposing yourself puts others at risk too. You may not get a severe case of Covid19 but the 2 or 3 people you accidentally spread it to when you are grocery shopping before you get symptoms may be badly affected.

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/04/2020 19:01

Agree completely with EducatingArti

We're not France. They went into lockdown sooner and it was far stricter than ours. Perhaps why we're heading towards having double their death rate.

ellanwood · 25/04/2020 19:07

@CHARLonodn90 - do you think so? The only thing keeping me sane is a good hour in the warm sun walking in the nearby hills and woods, nature spotting and bumping into neighbours by chance to have a mini socially-distanced catch-up. If we literally don't leave the house for eight days I think we'll all feel very grumpy. And flabby!

Ijustcalled · 25/04/2020 19:08

Not my experience where I live or of anyone I know.

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 19:09

I don't go grocery shopping.

PomBearsyummy · 25/04/2020 19:18

"and ive just read the death toll is up again over 800 so clearly this isnt working"

How can you possibly say that. If there was no lockdown it could have been 1,000+ daily for all we know.

EducatingArti · 25/04/2020 19:22

Frompcat
However you break social distancing rules it could mean that others are infected badly because of you. It doesn't have to be grocery shopping, that was just an example.

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 19:23

Well what else is it going to be Arti? If I visit my mum and she's been isolating and not shopping or going out and I've been isolating and not shopping or going out, how am I going to infect her or anyone else?

EducatingArti · 25/04/2020 19:28

Who has been doing the shopping then?

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 19:29

Online shopping Confused

Newgirls · 25/04/2020 19:29

Exactly frompcat. It’s low risk and good for mental health.

People need to show some judgement.

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 19:29

I haven't set foot in any kind of shop for over 3 weeks.

nannybeach · 25/04/2020 19:30

Just as quiet here, no-one going to work, apart from one key worker, its been very quiet for the past month, everyones cars in their drives, the odd person walking past with the dogs, less than normal.

McCanne · 25/04/2020 19:34

I was woken this morning by a neighbours garden being ripped up by a digger and several workmen standing chatting loudly to each other. I was really taken aback.

Gil55 · 25/04/2020 19:35

Does it not really piss you off in England that your Government is treating you like children and refusing to outline their plan for easing the lockdown?

EducatingArti · 25/04/2020 19:37

If absolutely all your and your Mum's shopping has been online then I agree there is only a very small risk of the virus being passed that way ( although there is a tiny one) and if you have both genuinely not been going out at all and neither of you live in a household where anyone else is going out at all, then I agree there is extremely little risk of you getting or passing on Covid19 as long as your method of transport to your mum doesn't involve any potential contact with others. I wouldn't see this as any real additional risk though.

That didn't seem to be what pp were saying though. They were saying they would break lockdown rules and go out and about and accept the added risk to themselves. I was pointing out it isn't just a risk to them but to others, at the food store or the petrol station or the bus, or the GP surgery etc

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 19:38

Of course it does Gil55, there are many threads on that very topic.
