I normally love a takeaway but I haven't ordered in a month now.
Have you still been ordering ?
And are they safe?

No, all of our local ones we used to use closed. The ones left have one or two star hygiene ratings 😬

Nope, we haven't. I have a fear that it will be cooked / handled by someone who is asymptomatic / or doesn't wash hands etc. I don't even really like the supermarket these days, but we take very good precautions there.

I'm a good cook and dh and I are both working from home so have lots of extra time (no commute) to make new, more exciting things to eat.

We've made lots of homemade versions of takeaway food - buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, crispy buffalo wings in hot sauce etc and that has really helped the relentlessness cooking and eating of home cooked food. I'm enjoying it mostly and I especially love the opportunity to have nicer lunches instead of a sandwich / salad at my desk.

I DO miss takeaways though.....

We got pizza last week - no contact with the delivery guy (he left it on the garden chair), slid the pizza out of the box onto a clean surface, chucked the dip & the box, washed hands, ate pizza.

Yes, a couple of times. It wasn't as nice as normal but I think that's because they are delivering so many. I had to reheat it, which was fine.

I've known several people who have had Coronavirus, some hospitalised, and none of them think they've caught it from a takeaway. Or a can of beans. Although I wash my hands regularly and thoroughly I've stopped cleaning my groceries. There is a level of paranoia being created with this virus which I don't think is healthy.

If it's impossible for some reason to prepare your own food then by all means take the risk. I would in that case.

If you just happen to fancy that particular meal then I can't see the point. Any extra enjoyment you might get from your favourite takeaway is probably cancelled out by having to remove the packaging with gloves on etc.

Nope, not since that tiger allegedly got Covid-19 through eating food prepared by a asymptomatic handler

It’s not time consuming or stressful (!) to take food out of takeaway packaging and wash your hands before eating it. I imagine people who find it so wouldn’t be ordering deliveries in the first place!

We order takeaway usually and you have no idea who has a cold/ flu/ tummy ache so I really dont see the issue with this - if you're not high risk or shielding go for it

having to remove the packaging with gloves on etc.

You don't HAVE to do that. You are CHOOSING to do that. There is a difference. Not everyone is handling everything as if it's nuclear waste, decontaminating/quarantining their shopping and disinfecting their post.

still having weekly fish & chips. We transfer food to plates, bin the packaging & scrub hands before eating.

I do leave post & deliveries for at least 24 hours though

lol, what?

A proper hand-wash is fine for me.

We've had a few chippies. All delivered even though we can see the takeaway from our garden as they've stopped all collections.

The things I want the most (Chinese, McDs) are all closed though.

We had an Indian from a family run restaurent last week. It was delicious. Our local pub is doing takeway barbecue this weekend and I can't wait. Really hope the weather lasts because I'm already envisioning myself eating it sitting in our garden with a class of wine looking at the sea. Their potato salad is amazing.

If you can’t stand closer than 2 metres from the person who made the food, why your eat something they had prepared? Seems crazy to me

Have you stopped eating then?

I just use a spoon to put it on the plate then wash my hands 🤷🏻‍♀️

No way would I get takeaway at the moment. You have no idea who is cooking it and the conditions of the kitchen etc. That is always true but, obviously, more important at the moment.

To be honest I am not a great lover of takeaway. I think home cooked food is far nicer. The only takeaway I quite like is indian but, even then, me and DH can make gorgeous curries

Too much hassle to remove all packaging with gloves, fill into plates/bowls and then reheat, after which you've still got washing up to do. And there's still a risk of catching the virus.

I wouldn't!

Might have an Indian takeaway tonight. No gloves will be used in the house but then we don’t Zoflora the post either.

I am at home isolating with 3 people for the past 4 weeks so know that they're not contagious!

The aim is to stop the virus from spreading between households!

Yep, we get 1-2 a week. One of the few joys left to us!

There are loads of places delivering round here. I can get cocktails delivered to my door of an evening, or ice cream.

I've had three in the last month. I must admit I'm not 100% comfortable with it, but sometimes I just can't face cooking again.

But the risk of picking up Covid 19 from a pizza box or directly from food is so vanishingly small that it's really not worth even giving headspace to.

Well it's got to be about the same risk level as getting it from any item or surface that an infected person has recently touched, hasn't it? If we are going to not worry about takeaway packaging then we may as well not worry about any of it, and just focus on airborne particles alone.

I was thinking more of the fact that other people are involved in the chain of food supply, not that someone else was cooking it at home

For now we're avoiding them, anything I can do to reduce the risk for me is worth it (especially as I know someone's whose lost their life to it). If I don't fancy cooking, I've bought some finest meals a couple of times (alongside main shop!) or told DH I've got the ingredients in for him to cook one of the meals from his reportoire (only three choices but makes a change).

I generally don't worry about surfaces to be honest. If I'm washing my hands regularly I don't see the issue.

And the viral load from a surface is likely to be low.
