I normally love a takeaway but I haven't ordered in a month now.
Have you still been ordering ?
And are they safe?

Yes, we've had a couple and will have one this Friday night.

I can't see how it's any more dangerous than going to the supermarket. And I want my local restaurants and takeaways to still be open once all this is over, so I'm supporting them now.

GreyGardens88 · 21/04/2020 08:13

Yes had a few curries and a pizza, I'm more concerned about my ballooning waistline

LovingLola · 21/04/2020 08:14

All our local restaurants are doing takeaway. We have one every Friday. Everyone in my area wants them to stay afloat so that they can reopen when appropriate for them to do so. Several of them now are booked out for takeaway for up to a week in advance.

nakedavengerreturns · 21/04/2020 08:21

Takeaways and deliveries have been banned in NZ during our level 4 lock down.

We move to level 3 mid next week when contactless delivery can happen with strict hygiene protocols.

It's been a month. We are all beside ourselves with excitement.

mogtheexcellent · 21/04/2020 08:22

I've been ordering from small local places not big chains. They have been taking extra precautions and do no contact deliveries. Having pizza tonight from a pub with a pizza oven. Yum.

I hear dominos on the other hand...

QuitMoaning · 21/04/2020 08:26

My OH owns a takeaway and he closed the day after the lockdown announcement. The reason was he couldn’t maintain enough distance between staff.

His hygiene is impeccable (constantly 5 stars) but he cannot be utterly sure that all his staff are maintaining the lockdown rules/guidance so he cannot be completely sure he can keep staff and customers safe. He will be losing customers as his competition is open but he just cannot risk it himself due to the space in the shop.

Treaclepie19 · 21/04/2020 08:27

I'd really love one but have been too nervous to. Our local chip shop is reopening tomorrow and I so want chips.
I'm pregnant and feeling extra nervous but imagine I will cave soon enough.

MegUffin · 21/04/2020 08:29

Nope not at all

Going forward I'm not inclined to either; much prefer my homemade food. Family does as well.

ScarfLadysBag · 21/04/2020 08:31

Not traditional takeaways as there aren't (m)any by us, but we've got locally made food and meals from a local cafe and farm shop delivered. I would happily have a takeaway if there were any around us!

SleepingIsOverrated · 21/04/2020 08:35

We've had more than we ever have before! The daily 'what shall we eat tonight' conversation is especially boring atm and we live in a village where local takeaways would really struggle to open after this if people didn't support them now.

Takeaways galore in our house Grin

Sigh. Every takeaway thread, there's always one...

Lolly86 · 21/04/2020 08:38

Had a chinese takeaway last night...was deliciousGrin

Salene · 21/04/2020 08:39

No way , totally not safe .60 degrees is needed minimum to kill the virus which the food is unlikely to be as its being played up into containers , handling of food into take away containers poses a risk along with contamination on the boxes etc

Safest thing is to cook your own food

orlarose · 21/04/2020 08:42

Yes we've been having takeaways as have plenty of people I know (I know because they've asked for recommendations).

LemonFun · 21/04/2020 08:43

Yes we've had a couple. Indian. No contact delivery - we decent onto our own plates (only what we're eating as we share) and then blast in microwave for 60 seconds - wash our hands and bobs your uncle!

I used to like to keep containers for storage (from food to Lego) the plastic ones but we're not just binning everything then cleaning where it's been.

perniciousdot · 21/04/2020 08:44

@Grufallosfriends

Should the cooks, other employees and delivery people really be working? It's not exactly an essential business?

Nobody has said that only essential businesses can remain open though. Where are you getting that from?

Chemenger · 21/04/2020 08:45

We’ve had several. Even in Wuhan at the height of their shutdown takeaway food was allowed. The only problem is remembering to order early so that the delivery time is reasonable. We might collect Sunday lunch from our local restaurant this week. Unfortunately our excellent local Indian restaurant insists on payment in cash on the doorstep so we’re not using them, otherwise it’s paid in advance and contactless delivery.

perniciousdot · 21/04/2020 08:45

Posted too soon...

I have had a couple of takeouts a week the same as any other time. So long as you don't touch the food when you are putting it onto plates then wash your hands it's fine. The only thing weird I found was eating pizza from a plate, usually we just open the boxes!

TheRealHousewife · 21/04/2020 08:47

For me I think the risk isn’t from the food but from the delivery person. Wouldn’t risk it myself.

Numbness2020 · 21/04/2020 08:50

Yes had a couple since this all started.

I’m working hard and I’m outside the home anyway. I’m treating myself and family at weekend. I’m no more at risk with a takeaway than I am at work.

TheyDressedMeUpLikeThis · 21/04/2020 08:52

Yep. Once a week at least. All of our favourite local cafes are doing takeaway/delivery and we are hoping they will be there on the otherside.

We are grabbing takeaway coffee/drinks from our little cafe at the Metro on most days on our walks as well to help them keep ticking over.

We are all youngish and hale and hearty. The risk is low and the reward is high.

SueEllenMishke · 21/04/2020 08:53

Yep. At least once a week.
There is no evidence the virus is transmitted through food.
Just decant the food and throw away the packaging. Wash your hands and maybe blast the food in the microwave for 30 secs if you're worried.

I'm happy to use our local take aways and support them. I'd like them to still be there when this is all over!

catfeets · 21/04/2020 08:55

Had our first one since lockdown the other day and struggled to find one that was open. Really didn't enjoy it as have got used to going without heavily salted, greasy foods.
Wasn't too worried about the risk and didn't reheat the food as was already piping hot.

organisedmother · 21/04/2020 09:02

I suppose it’s very hard to keep social distance, I’m sure thats why McDonalds etc have closed, but local takeaway are open. I guess there is a risk with everything, going to the supermarkets, the pharmacy, getting takeaways, it’s definitely a personal decision I totally miss takeaways but not worth the risk in my household, can’t wait for a dominos!

TheoneandObi · 21/04/2020 10:40

Had an Indian last night for DD's birthday. We're not really takeaway types but it seemed the best special thing we could do. And it was yummy. We decanted everything, washed our hands then reheated to high temps. Think I'd do that last bit anyway with Indian that's been delivered. Worked well
