Evening all,

I have to agree that I don't trust much of the reporting or figures, so I'm just glancing at the news and not getting too sucked in. At the start of these threads I said that I felt Boris was doing ok with this, I have totally reversed my position now, but am not going to rant. I put radio 5Live on today for the first time in ages and let it chunter on (mostly about masks) in the background without getting upset which is a step in the right direction for me.

Food - yes, I'm finding the shopping hard going, just doing a big shop once a week which is a lot of food with two adults and two teens but satisfying once its all done and put away. I'm lucky they are teens as they are used to sorting their own lunch at weekends (we generally all make ourselves a sandwich or similar) so I just let them get on with it and only have to think about the evening. Tonight we all just sorted ourselves out too. The DCs and I have been doing lots of baking which we don't normally have time for, which has been lovely.

@ExpletiveDelighted I couldn't agree
more re Boris. I'm starting to get a bit angry now.

Also agree re doing a massive food shop once a week. Having all of us here for three meals a day has meant a lot of bread!!

Arcadia · 21/04/2020 21:26

I agree too @ExpletiveDelighted I've changed my view too and could get angry but don't want to waste my energy!

Noooblerooble · 21/04/2020 21:40

For the millionth time I'm grateful for this thread.

I'm also getting so fed up. I want society to be safe but I'd like a concrete plan of 'this is how coming out of lockdown will look.' I'd like some hope - I mean, I have hope, but the official line has got to be 'we're on this. We have a plan.' My mental health is suffering quite significantly and while I now have good support, I'm genuinely at risk the longer this goes on. This is doing me harm. I keep thinking if they could just open the garden centres I'd feel a bit better.

I think if we moved past the peak before lockdown even started then we could have more freedom now whilst washing our hands scrupulously and wearing face masks. And few people are going to play silly buggers and mix in large crowds (well, you'd hope!!). I still get moments of raw fear, normally when I see some fear-mongering headline, but I was reading through the empty hospitals thread on here this a.m. and thinking, our hospitals have space, most hcp's aren't overstretched. We should be getting the economy going. Humans aren't designed to be separated.

Rant over!!

I had a productive day and chatted to 2 friends but this evening I'm tired and very lonely and wanting to be in the same room as some other humans. Preferably nice ones Wink This really stinks. Now I know you're allowed to drive to walk somewhere I am going to do just that tomorrow. It will lift my spirits. I gave the place a really good hoover today. I half love it, half hate it!

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/04/2020 21:41

Yes, that's exactly it, I don't want to waste my energy on the PM, it will achieve nothing. I'm assuming that pretty well all Covid stuff on social media is probably fake news now. I hope he's held to account longer term though.

Noooblerooble · 21/04/2020 21:42

Sorry i think i meant we could lift restrictions in 2 weeks with certain precautions. I think even 2 weeks more would lower the risks because fewer people would then have the virus.

M0reGinPlease · 21/04/2020 21:45

@Noooblerooble putting it eloquently as usual. The government need to get a grip and quickly and stop trotting out the 'its too early make changes' 'no decisions have been made' bollocks. We cannot just be expected to bumble on indefinitely. They will loose support. I do wonder if Boris is planning a big comeback where he reveals the route we'll take out of lockdown and attempts to enshrine himself as some national hero.

tobee · 21/04/2020 21:57

God I spoke to my mum earlier on the phone and she said she was just about to watch a programme about babies being born on BBC1. So I thought "babies!!! Yay!!". It was an emotional rollercoaster! Beware if anyone wants to watch on catch up. It finished nearly an hour ago. I still feel upset by it!!

purpleme12 · 21/04/2020 22:01

Oh I loved it. It had a lovely heartwarming ending it made me feel really good in the end

Taddda · 21/04/2020 22:17

Funny enough had the same discussion a couple of days ago. There were obviously major fck ups made right from the (staggered) start with Government now becoming one big PR mess - literally how many 'we will's' have they successfully followed through with?

'Boris the Great- the second coming' is possibly their last shot at gaining some sort of revival of (blinkered) confidence....

Do you think he'll expect a clap?

Bunnyflop · 21/04/2020 22:28

He would love a nose rub from you @purpleme12

@Noooblerooble I agree with you about garden centres. I am ACHING for them to be open (my husband is likely glad for the saved money though). But I’ve got two pots and gaps in my border with nothing in!! I’ve got plans for herbs and all sorts. And I also want a plot at the allotments...

Are we really allowed to drive to walk?! I thought that wasn’t allowed.

Taddda · 21/04/2020 22:33

@Bunnyflop what Boris? Wink

purpleme12 · 21/04/2020 22:34

@Bunnyflop ❤️

Noooblerooble · 21/04/2020 23:07

Yes they officially confirmed it last week Bunnyflop. You need to stay close to home and be out walking longer than you're driving but it's definitely allowed. Game changer, right? And you're allowed to stop somewhere on your walk to eat lunch which means picnics are ok. I don't know about all of you but I do love a good picnic! Wink

Bunnyflop · 22/04/2020 07:20

@taddda Grin yeah I bet he would love one too.

@Noooblerooble that is fab news!! I can take ds for a picnic by the lake near us. Oooh I’m so happy!

If anyone would like me to send them some seeds, PM me your address. I have lots of spares, mainly vegetables but a few flowers - mainly wildflowers, poppies, etc. and would be happy to share!

ExpletiveDelighted · 22/04/2020 08:02

Nooble - a lot of our local garden centres have switched to delivery / click and collect, might be worth checking social media of some local ones? I have an allotment but its a teeny bit frustrating having to choose between going there or going for a walk at the moment, ideally at this time of year I'd be up there every day but I do want to go for walks too. On days where I don't need to take anything up there I've been walking first and going home via the plots. There are lots of people up there so you have to be a bit careful with distance (mine adjoins the main path) but on the whole its great.
