To think the amount of people we know who have died or are dying from CV is proportionately high?

Between DP and I, we know 3 people who have died and one who is very likely to due in the next 24 hours from/with Covid-19. We live in Yorkshire.

My old hairdresser who was 38 Sad DP's workmates husband who was a 60 year old GP (she is a nurse) and my workmates Mum who was in her 80's and lived in a care home but was very well on mothers day. My sisters FIL has early onset alzheimer's and is 58, currently in hospital but they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

DP thinks this is probably an average amount that most people will see in this pandemic (he is frontline NHS so quite fatalistic) whereas I didn't think we would know this many people who would die, in what is essentially a month long period.

AIBU to think this is quite high or are you all seeing similar? It is very much adding to my long list of worries.

I am in the West Midlands, large circle of friends, don’t know anybody who has had it.But I do know our local hospitals are full of patients with it.

Ilovemypantry · 16/04/2020 19:40

I know one person who had it and recovered and one of my neighbour’s died of it in hospital earlier this week. He was in hospital about a week before for other reasons, sent home and within days confirmed he had COVID-19, most likely contracted it while he was in hospital the week before.

Thinkingabout1t · 16/04/2020 19:41

Sorry you've had so many deaths around you. I have heard from one relative that one of her inlaws, abroad, caught Covid-19 and died. I am terrified for my family and friends, and am making much more contact with those I don't often see -- just sort of trying to hold them close.

Thinkingabout1t · 16/04/2020 19:43

Oh and two people I know quite well have had the virus and recovered without any problems as far as I know. One in 20s working in a hospital, and one in 50s a social worker.

Rosieposy4 · 16/04/2020 19:44

North Yorkshire, know three people who have died and lots of folk who have had it ( a few them actually tested and positive)

Coughisoff · 16/04/2020 19:45

I know of 4 round here in north wales sadly all close to a friend or relative x

Fifthtimelucky · 16/04/2020 19:47

I know (or know of) 4 people who have died in the last month. Three were aged between 94-99. I'm not sure about the 4th but she was the grandmother of my 20 yr old daughter's friend.

None of them had COVID 19. I don't know anyone who has died of that.

WanderingMilly · 16/04/2020 19:49

Yes, I know three people. One died a while back, an old family friend, had diabetes and was in his 70s so never recovered. Another is an old work colleague from a past job. A third is in a care home, currently hanging on but not likely to pull through....

Santaclauswhosthat · 16/04/2020 19:50

We have lost two people, one family, one friend. Another family member tested positive early doors back when they were still testing, recovered without needing admission but was quite ill, another family member and three friends told they likely had by medical staff, all now recovering.

Many other people I know, don't know anyone affected by it.

blueangel1 · 16/04/2020 19:52

I'm in the West Midlands. DH and I have more than likely had COVID-19; DH was worse than me and needed two lots of antibiotics for a secondary infection. Four weeks on and we're a lot better, but still absolutely knackered. Several people on our local Facebook group have reported that they know people who have died, including one Indian lady who has lost three members of her family. I just heard today that an elderly work contact has died of it. He was living in a little village.

Sparklesocks · 16/04/2020 19:53

Sorry to hear of everyone’s losses.

We lost a cousin to it. She was in her 40s, she had quite a few health conditions including diabetes. They think she caught it in hospital when she was receiving treatment for something else. She caught it at the beginning of March so prelockdown and before people fully understood the extent of it, and then died in mid March. Very difficult for the family.

I know another 5 or 6 people who have had it (or suspect they did) with milder symptoms.

Sgtmajormummy · 16/04/2020 19:53

I’m in Italy and don’t know anybody who has had it. Maybe some have but I haven’t spoken to anyone outside the family for over a month!

In the U.K. one relative and a friend, both very unwell and in long term care homes, died suddenly in the last month. Their families’ confusion and distress, added to unclear causes of death lead me to have my doubts...

Ginfordinner · 16/04/2020 19:53

My NDN have had it and are recovering. One is a nurse, and she said it was just like having a cold. Because of her job she was tested and it was definitely positive, but she is fine.

I don't know of anyone personally who has died.

PuppyMonkey · 16/04/2020 19:53

I know of 4 people who had symptoms and think they had it. I don’t know anybody who has been hospitalised or died from it. In Derbyshire.

Slave2love · 16/04/2020 19:55

One person in my town has died of it. Not a friend of mine but someone I knew of. I know of a couple of other people who suspect they may have had it although it hasnt been tested so not confirmed.

kevintheorangecarrot · 16/04/2020 19:56

A colleague of mine had it, that's why I think I caught it from her. She said she only had a high temp, cough and very achy legs. She said it lasted just over 7days. It was a month or so ago now and she said she is still suffering from painful muscles and fatigue.

Santaclauswhosthat · 16/04/2020 20:05

I am sorry to hear about everyone else's losses too. Both the people I know who died were in their 50s btw, no underlying health conditions.

Whether you know someone affected by it seems to vary massively.

theluckiest · 16/04/2020 20:16

I'm in a hotspot (Midlands) and know quite a lot of people who have or are currently isolating because of it.

An old uni tutor has died of it Sad

And most horrifically, I know someone personally linked to this...TRIGGER WARNING - domestic violence

(Indirectly due to COVID but linked to economic pressure from economic lockdown exacerbating domestic violence and possibly triggering a hideously unstable individual to do something fucking unfathomable...)

joystir59 · 16/04/2020 20:23

I know two people who've had it, I don't know anyone whose died of it. I live in North Yorkshire

Angel2702 · 16/04/2020 20:25

We are in Greater London, don’t know anyone who has died and only a few that have had / suspected to have had it.

MintyMabel · 16/04/2020 20:25

they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

Are you suggesting they were forced to sign a DNR and the hospital were refusing to treat him further because he has Alzheimer’s? Because that’s not actually what is supposed to be happening.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/04/2020 20:26

I live in SE

I know 4 ppl who have had it including one who has sadly died today.
She was 52.

langdale2016 · 16/04/2020 20:26

My stepdad died last week of it. My work colleagues father-in-law died of it, also last week. My friend's husband (and likely their family of four) had it (all ok now) and my daughter's deputy head is still in hospital (after two weeks) with it.

langdale2016 · 16/04/2020 20:27

Should add that I'm SE London

Bloomburger · 16/04/2020 20:27

I know no one directly but a friends mum is recovering and a colleague of my husbands had it but is in his 40s v fit and healthy and came through it v quickly.
