I'm a couple of weeks past my hair appointment. Hairdresser comes to my home as I am not the most mobile and I am already finding it hard to do anything with my hair.

I also have half an inch of grey hair showing and that ain't going to get any better.

My hairdresser cancelled all my appointments before lockdown was even official so I think she isn't going to be keen to resume.

I can't see how hairdressers are going to be able to go back to work since it means them being in close proximity to their clients.

Any thoughts?

My hairdresser is flouting the rules. She’s text me asking if I would like a mobile appointment as she doesn’t no when she will officially open again. I’ve rejected her offer but I’d bet a few are doing the same.

oohnicevase · 16/04/2020 13:26

I'm just leaving mine , look on insta gram / Pinterest etc for ideas if you do's
Get some spray dye for the roots from amazon .

CarlaH · 16/04/2020 13:31

'Get some spray dye for the roots from amazon '

I haven't looked for a day or so but last time I checked stuff was either sold out or massively overpriced.

Well mine cancelled before she even needed to so I am guessing she isn't going to be rushing back.

My expectation is that many hairdressers, nail techs etc will just carry on if they need the money.

BruceAndNosh · 16/04/2020 13:34

Mine rang me and told me Don't dare dye it yourself!

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 16/04/2020 13:34

I work in this industry, I completely agree, I have no idea how it will be able to pick up again safely when lockdown is relaxed, particularly mobile hairdressers going into people's homes.
Clients can be kept at a distance but as for the hairdresser who will be touching clients, then moving onto the next client, surely that's the perfect way to spread it Hmm

OneForMeToo · 16/04/2020 13:36

Mine cancelled too but apparently back tracking now.

chipsandpeas · 16/04/2020 13:37

@BruceAndNosh course they would, they dont want you dyeing at home as they would lose business

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/04/2020 13:40

My fear is that they end lockdown and I'm expected back at work before I can get in to the hairdresser's. I've got a bleached Bob, so not only are the roots about an inch long, but my style is looking more "bohemian" by the day. I'm getting tempted to put lemon juice on the roots and sit in the sun. Will that work?

I've gone back to Amazon and have found some root touch up spray but have no idea whether the colour will be right.

Still it washes out so if it doesn't work I'm not any worse off, apart from the £7.

Sorry oohnicevase

I posted before I saw your comment. I have bought that but in dark blonde. I think I might need something lighter really but there was only one light blonde one and they wanted over £25.

Have you tried Boots.com for dyes and root touch up?
I just got some from there.

Goatinthegarden · 16/04/2020 14:01

My hair is short and bleached, I’m three weeks post my cancelled hair appointment and now have an inch of dark brown roots.

It’s looked dreadful for the past fortnight, but actually, today, it has kind of come into its own...

I’m a key worker (teacher) so am just trying my best to rock it in public...

I’m sure it will get much, much worse before my hairdresser is back in action.

I cut my fringe last night OMG do you remember Hamble from Playschool?? I look like her.

Kazzyhoward · 16/04/2020 14:04

Hairdressers will start working again when the govt support stops. The support lasts to end of June at present, so unless it's extended (unlikely), things will return to normal in July for most people.

Of course, some hairdressers won't be eligible for the 80% support, i.e. those who recently started, or those not previously declaring all their income (or even any of it), so they'll be the ones most likely to flout the rules and carry on as they'll have no income.

CarlaH · 16/04/2020 14:17

caz114

Well done on getting some yourself.

I've just had a look and all the colours that look suitable are out of stock.

Still I think I would be nervous of trying to do it myself anyway.

'I cut my fringe last night OMG do you remember Hamble from Playschool?? I look like her.'

I am going to ask my partner to try and trim my fringe soon. I fully expect to be joining you rocking the Hamble look.

Kazzyhoward

Funnily enough my hairdresser said she hoped to see me in July so I suppose that's what she meant.

I did wonder why she chose that date because by then she will have missed three appointments. I book a long way in advance to make sure she can fit me in.

Even when they do start again I suppose getting an appointment might be difficult.

Despite looking dreadful I think I would be too scared to have my hair done at the moment. I just don't see what's going to change in the future to make things any safer.

I rang mine and she offered advice on colouring it myself. I got what I needed from Ebay.

JemilyJ · 16/04/2020 14:29

@Kazzyhoward I saw this how to cut your own fringe video on twitter, Nina is a hairdresser, kind of a friend of a friend. twitter.com/Matineegirl/status/1247917407840190464
