Hairdressing

I'm a couple of weeks past my hair appointment. Hairdresser comes to my home as I am not the most mobile and I am already finding it hard to do anything with my hair.

I also have half an inch of grey hair showing and that ain't going to get any better.

My hairdresser cancelled all my appointments before lockdown was even official so I think she isn't going to be keen to resume.

I can't see how hairdressers are going to be able to go back to work since it means them being in close proximity to their clients.

Any thoughts?

@Sparklingbrook, I do my eyebrows at home, not as I'm blind but because greys are coming through Hmm

I buy eyelure eyebrow dye from superdrug, its about £7 but it lasts a while, its easy to use, I buy light brown and its fine.

Not blind, blonde!!!

middleager · 16/04/2020 20:34

My white roots show every fortnight (Im 46 but white haired now).

I've used box dyes and root spray.
This week I am using brown eyeshadow to cover up, before dyeing ut again.

I normally visit a salon and have a base colour and highlights.
I cancelled my appoitment at the start of March as I wasn't prepared to risk it, as vain as I am.

Someone I know just shaved all their long, dyed brown hair off and will be embracing the grey. Very brave!

I bought clippers and took my previously floppy bob back to a grade 4. I can live with it. It won't last after we return to normal.

Main problem is horribly sunburned ears.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 16/04/2020 20:37

mine cancelled before she even needed to

What do you mean by this, OP? Seems to me that if nationwide, we'd acted sooner, we'd have less.of a problem now.

scaryreading · 16/04/2020 20:40

I'm growing out my colour. See what the grey is like. Sick of dyeing. I have got semi permanent if I can't stand the results but thought it was a great time to see

Did buy a deep hairband online.

My hair is a bit cristaltips😊

My hair's bleached very blonde, and short and normally needs cutting and the roots doing every 4-5 weeks religiously. It's going to be an utter bastard to get the roots done and blended in evenly when the hairdresser reopens but my hairdresser assures me that "look, I'm really really good and I'll get it sorted... DO NOT BOX DYE IT" (and she IS epic - the first hairdresser I've ever had that has me with a hairstyle I LIKE and can maintain well)... so at the moment I'm embracing the "fuck it it's quarrantine" look and if it gets longer (it's very asymmetric and short) I'll try french plaiting the long side and make a statement out of the combo of bleached blonde, purple streaks and dark roots contrast going on.

Barbers make it look easy....

I feel sorry for the elderly ladies who go for their weekly wash and set. I was listening to one on Radio 4 today and she was saying she hasn't been able to wash her hair for a couple of years because of arthritis in her shoulders. She's really struggling now.

HeIenaDove · 17/04/2020 00:45

Flowers ...........thats why one of the countries classed hairdressers as essential

I just meant that she cancelled my future appointments before we went into lockdown.

I agree that maybe we should have locked down sooner but I still wonder how on earth we are going to manage into the future.

How do you know she didn't need to?

She may have been subject to the earlier 12 week lockdown due to being vulnerable or shielding a vulnerable household member.

She may have been self isolating due to her (or someone in her household) showing symptoms.

Lots of people were keeping themselves at home behind closed doors in the couple of weeks before the lockdown for everyone.

Hi I an new on here
Not sure if its aloud but I am a hairdresser
And I can answer questions.

HeIenaDove · 25/06/2020 16:05

Im not going And this is why.

Summer 2005 Impetigo on bottom lip Caused by humidity. As told by my GP Treated with cream and antibiotics.
18 month gap then......
Jan 2007 Another flare up Same place. Due to stress Treated again with same antibiotics and cream
Four and half year gap.............July 2011 Another flare up just before school reunion caused by stress and humidity. Treated again with antibiotics and cream

3 year and 3 month gap October 2014 Another flare up. 23 and 24 Oct was humid and warm. Treated again with same cream and antibiotics.

Been clear now for six and a half years. I intend to keep it that way.

Ive always been scrupulously clean before anyone starts. But in a hot salon with a mask on A hair appointment which is now more stressful than it used to be plus humidity. The perfect breeding ground for an impetigo flare up + a struggle to get a GP appointment + my surgery is now Virgin Care. Think i will skip the hair appointment and stay skin condition free.

HeIenaDove · 25/06/2020 16:06

Sorry Its five years and eight months ive been clear of it now

Id rather go grey than risk it.
