I'm a couple of weeks past my hair appointment. Hairdresser comes to my home as I am not the most mobile and I am already finding it hard to do anything with my hair.

I also have half an inch of grey hair showing and that ain't going to get any better.

My hairdresser cancelled all my appointments before lockdown was even official so I think she isn't going to be keen to resume.

I can't see how hairdressers are going to be able to go back to work since it means them being in close proximity to their clients.

Any thoughts?

Use a box dye from the supermarket and get DH to apply it, I use them all the time but some people are snobbish about them, there are plenty of colours and they are easy to apply. As for your fringe, can you pin it up off your face or dry it to one side in a sweepy fringe way, good luck

LucheroTena · 16/04/2020 15:00

I should imagine there will be some sort of black market underground service where you can get someone to come to your home. If they wear PPE it’s no different to nursing except the ‘patient’ will be well.

Bluesheep8 · 16/04/2020 15:06

ssd Hamble! Brilliant, you really made me laugh Grin

Nanny0gg · 16/04/2020 15:20

Wonder if salons will be limited to the number of clients allowed in (busy salons may have to work in shifts?) and the staff wear masks?

Easttt · 16/04/2020 15:29

Nothing wrong with using Clariol Root Touch up - hairdressers use dyes that are sold in Boots, etc. Most important thing is to do the patch test.

The spray people have mentioned is a great temp measure.

OneForMeToo · 16/04/2020 15:36

If your hair dresser is a good one a couple of near right colour boxes are not going to be a problem for him/her.

However if you put black on platinum blonde then yeah they might want to kill you but they will cash in still lol 😂

ssd · 16/04/2020 15:39

@Sparklingbrook, is that Crystal tips and Alastair? Grin

Thanks for the pic of Hamble, I may need to name change to Hamble now Grin

Kazzyhoward · 16/04/2020 15:45

Social distancing will have to apply, so you won't be able to have two occupied chairs next to each other. And yes, almost certainly the staff will have to wear some kind of PPE. As with all workplaces, the salon owners will have to "self assess" the risks to staff and customers and put reasonable precautions in place. And of course, customers will also vote with their feet if they don't think the salon is protecting them enough.

FlibbertyGiblets · 16/04/2020 15:46

Hamble and Crystaltips. Made my day Grin.

Obvs not saying who's hair I am channelling. Dulux Dog

chocolatviennois · 16/04/2020 16:03

I think hairdressers should be allowed to offer a mobile service cutting hair in people’s gardens as surely out in the fresh air there would be a lower risk of getting cv. Not sure what my dh and ds will do if barbers are shut longer than another three weeks

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 16/04/2020 16:08

I last had my hair coloured the week before lock down and my next appointment is next Saturday, it’s obviously not going to happen but I will have to wait as mine is balayage/root melt and wouldn’t dare touch it. My hairdresser is just a small salon in the town next to my village She is self employed and then the salon owner so they could probably manage it safely enough so hopefully won’t be too long

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2020 16:16

Yes @ssd, I am a deadringer for her maybe I should do the purple thing. GrinI have really wavy hair and it grows out as well as down without a six weekly trim.

I am glad I had my eyebrows put back on just before this, so when they go back to being fair and invisible I might be having a bash at home tinting. Shock

Goatymcgoaty · 16/04/2020 16:24

@ssd I just snorted coffee everywhere Grin

I went for Clairol light auburn this morning to cover the roots. Now rocking an orange scalp. Look like Vincent off beauty and the beast (80’s American show). Presumably by the time I see anyone again it will have faded Blush

Cottipus · 16/04/2020 16:24

This is temporary so may only last a week or two but it makes the grey a nice blonde. And not permanent so doesn’t matter if you mess it up:

Cottipus · 16/04/2020 16:27

Forgot to add, buy a tint brush as it makes application much easier.

bluemarie87 · 16/04/2020 16:27

My hairdresser is too flouting the rules. She's messaged to say she's back working from the 9th May and is getting her diary in order if I want to book in. I've declined. Hair isn't the top of my agenda at the mo despite the roots but it makes me wonder how she's so sure she can work from then?

HeIenaDove · 16/04/2020 16:51

My appointment was meant to be at 2pm today. The last one was five weeks ago so not long before lockdown.

CarlaH · 16/04/2020 17:25

Thanks for all responses.

I had wondered myself whether I might risk asking her if she would mind doing it in my garden.

I thought I could wash off the colours myself rather than her coming into my house and that I would forego the blow dry.

Still it will all depend on whether she is prepared to risk being exposed to clients.

Most of the time she is behind me but I do have a fringe and a forehead I never want anybody to see and she will have to be in front of me to do that, and pretty close.

Perhaps I could have a professional haircut with a Hamble fringe courtesy of my OH.

I'm oblivious to who needs their hair cut or dyed in the supermarket or at work, so luckily it isn't bothering meSmile

Violetparis · 16/04/2020 17:38

My fringe now looks like this

ilikebooksandplants · 16/04/2020 17:46

Boots have been sold out of the box dye I’ve used in an emergency in the past for WEEKS. I look absolutely terrible and I’m due back in work on Monday (keyworker). My eyebrows are a disaster too. I am deeply unhappy all round.

TheMarbleFaun · 16/04/2020 17:53

ssd I spat my tea out at that as I'm at an age where I definitely do remember Hamble - still loling now!
Needed that laugh today
Flowers for your fringe though

BruceAndNosh · 16/04/2020 18:00

@Violetparis the good thing about that fringe is that it wont need another trim for at least 6 months

augustusglupe · 16/04/2020 18:04

I get grey roots, which are just beginning to show. I’m booked in my hairdresser on May 14th. They are currently closed. I’ve decided, even if they reopen, I’m not going back til at least June.
Me and DH haven’t been well atall these last few weeks with a cold/viral bug and what with the Coronavirus too, it’s put everything into perspective.
My roots can wait.
