A thread for people with CV19 symptoms that have lasted for more than a couple of weeks.

First thread here

(Called 40+ to keep a rough tab on when the first symptoms started being reported on MN).

Khaleesimother · 16/04/2020 17:05

Hello everyone. I was having a weepy moment when I discovered this thread. It's helped me discover I'm not alone in the length of time these symptoms have lasted, so thank you xx. I'm estimating I'm currently on day 26 although

Meercatmama · 16/04/2020 17:26

Welcome Khaleesimother
So sorry that you are still feeling unwell. I found these threads to very supportive through out my journey. I found mornings were fine for me but others did not. Late afternoon and evenings were my worst times and even now I find that I am exhausted by 8pm and in bed by 9pm latest. Last week when I was on day 26/27 ( I forget ) I felt awful again and spent the whole day just sitting on the sofa. It does get better just very slowly Take it easy, rest a lot, drink loads and eat well
Hope you feel better

TheDrsWife46 · 16/04/2020 17:33

@GinJeanie hey I know you, you’re the poster that leapt to the defence of all of us suffering on a thread asking for only those who had been tested. Big flowers to youFlowers

Sorry that your DH has been on this journey too, but thank you for reassuring messages x

Moodgie · 16/04/2020 17:33

I have just been hit by total exhaustion. All throughout I haven’t been too bad, it was all mainly the breathing. And suddenly this afternoon I’m completely wiped out. Anyone similar?

Tangledyarn · 16/04/2020 17:52

@moodgie Yeah I found as my breathing improved the fatigue and weakness got much worse and is now the most debilitating part of it (day 41) am struggling to spend that much time out of bed.

kevintheorangecarrot · 16/04/2020 17:53

I've been waking up with a stuffy nose and sore throat which I assume is hay fever as I do suffer with it every year. Now this evening I've started coughing :( I am not doing it constantly but I am sort of clearing my throat every 5 mins or so. Did anyone have a cough with this and can you describe how it was so I know what to look out for? I'm getting quite scared now :(

Moominmamma33 · 16/04/2020 17:54

@Moodgie I am with you on the extreme exhaustion, absolutely shattered today, although breathlessness less severe. Hoping it's progress for both of us? We've had quite a few of the same symptoms I think?

Moodgie · 16/04/2020 17:56

@Tangledyarn I’m about the same day as you. It literally hit me like a wave this afternoon. Scary really. Maybe a recovery phase, I hope?

mymoonmyman2020 · 16/04/2020 17:56

I spoke to my GP earlier but don’t have a huge amount to report back I’m afraid. He just said they were getting reports of it dragging on for a long time. He said even if I was still mildly breathless in a week or so there was no need to ring back - only if I rapidly deteriorated... still I did find it useful (and surprisingly easy) to speak to someone and get a little reassurance.

TheWooisStrong · 16/04/2020 17:58

@longshot
Thanks for thinking of me. The pain between my shoulder blades has come back/still there. I’ve also still got the productive cough, and had a dizzy spell and had to have a lie down today.
Slight sore throat too, but I think that’s from coughing.

On the flip side I’ve had enough energy to pootle around doing housework.

DH has also felt much worse today, tired and headachey.

I’m planning a hot steamy bath and an early night.

Moodgie · 16/04/2020 17:58

@Moominmamma33 I am hoping it’s progress although doesn’t seem like it!
Yesterday, I also started to have this thing in my throat that I couldn’t clear, then today turned into really tickly, started coughing and trying to clear the throat, now more like a scratchy throat!

WorriesomeDad · 16/04/2020 18:12

@Khaleesimother yeah these threads were a big relief to me too. I’m a few days ahead of you (day 29 from feeling really rotten) and the past two days have definitely been an improvement. Hope you pick up as well.

TheWooisStrong · 16/04/2020 18:12

Aaand the palpitations are back. I had these in the middle of the fever phase, then last night after a busy day. Today has been a lot quieter so I’m not sure why I have them now.

Although my mum and sibling both suffer with them when tired and stressed, so they may not be linked to Covid.

LetsBeSensible · 16/04/2020 18:22

Day 30 and I feel so much better, I am planning things and tidying up and...have been sitting down for two hours because I’m exhausted now.
I know this is going to be slow but blooming heck

Tangledyarn · 16/04/2020 18:25

@thewooisstrong I've still got palpitations too, probably worse the more I try to do or at night.

My throat is driving me mad, it was the first symptom 6 weeks ago and is still here, it's so sore and my voice is really gravelly..if I try and talk for any longer than a few minutes I start to lose my voice, my glands in my neck feel very swollen as well.

TheWooisStrong · 16/04/2020 18:30

Talked to a medical friend. They said if I had pneumonia it would take up to 6 months (!) to fully recover. And covid could be similar for a moderate case.
Other than that, rest, liquids, eating well and lung exercises or deep breathing exercises are all recommended.

So for those of us 4/5 weeks in, it may be that long again until our chests are clear, and even longer before we are back to full fitness.

Yay.

Moodgie · 16/04/2020 18:34

@Tangledyarn I started with the throat and now it seems to have re-emerged with the scratchiness.

Tangledyarn · 16/04/2020 18:42

@moodgie So strange isn't it? Actually I think maybe when my breathing etc was at it worst my throat wasnt as bad.

sleepwhenidie · 16/04/2020 18:52

I’ve been lurking on this thread, so sorry for all of you struggling. DD(11) has been suffering for 5 weeks now with minor symptoms. Her temperature has been elevated for most of the duration (different temps in different ears, always between 37.2-38.9, never over 39.) she has had a minor cough and is achy and exhausted, weepy (mainly because so fed up now) with hot upper back. Her chest gets tight after stairs etc. Apart from younger DS, the rest of our family have been ill during that period with different symptoms but all pointing to CV. Spoke to GP about DD after 2 weeks, then again two weeks later and got sent to A&E where she was checked thoroughly. Conclusion was that she most likely has Covid but not requiring admission (as I expected), sent home. She still, 10 days after that, has a high temp and feels awful, though we did have a day or two of her being much brighter on the weekend. Sad

Thoughts please. Is it worth calling GP again tomorrow?

SchrodingersKitty · 16/04/2020 18:53

I'm updating on my DH, even though it is not the subject of the thread - I hope that's OK. Do ignore if you are only here for corona virus symptoms - if so, I am day 36, have had a few coughing episodes, but basically feeling better.

On the other hand . . . DH fainted in the garden today and hit his head on the paving. He has been feeling a bit faint the last day or so - we think from the steroids. I called 999 and while waiting for them we realised he couldn't move one of his legs. The paramedics at first thought he had a broken hip, but then decided it was his lower leg. They took him to A and E and I eventually heard from him that he has broken his leg in two places. They have put on a temporary plaster cast and will keep him in overnight and operate to put pins in it tomorrow. They say the concussion was really mild.

All really insane. I'm now trying to find him a walking frame to try and stop any more falls. We live in a ridiculous house with five stories, so he is going to have to sleep in the sitting room (we have a sofa bed) and wash in the downstairs cloakroom indefinitely. Just when you think things are as bad as they can get. On the upside, he says infection control in A and E is very good and he was seen very quickly.

Egghead68 · 16/04/2020 18:54

@Khaleesimother I think we are at the same stage. I was really relieved (in some ways) to find this thread too. I’m currently going through a few days of extreme fatigue again but hoping this will improve by day 30. Best wishes.

Egghead68 · 16/04/2020 18:59

Oh no @SchrodingersKitty. Last thing you need. I hope your husband is comfortable at least. It doesn’t rain but it pours...

godhelpusall · 16/04/2020 19:00

@sleepwhenidie my daughter is similar. 9 and had it for almost 4 weeks. I'm finding it very hard

eyebrowsofinstagram · 16/04/2020 19:01

@Moodgie and @longshot that's great you have been able to be seen by a real doctor in person. I keep getting screened for COVID then told my only option is to go to A&E 45 mins away.

Given that I'm on day 25 I wonder at what point they'll say I can be seen in person!?

Egghead68 · 16/04/2020 19:08

@kevintheorangecarrot. You asked about types of cough.

  1. I got a new dry cough, but didn’t cough much (up to four times a day).
  1. My pre-existing throat clearing cough (from chronic lanryngitis associated with my severe asthma) got worse at times, although I am not sure whether it would have done anyhow.

For the second type of cough, salt-Water gargling, steaming, drinking loads, spoons of honey, sucking sweets and trying to swallow or drink rather than cough are all helpful.

For the dry cough, I found drinking water was the best thing.
