Will schools be closed until 2022?

Sorry, another schools thread.
I’ve just looked at the guardian, it says social distancing may need to be maintained until 2022, if this happens then surely schools will be closed until then? When schools go back social distancing will end. Obviously nobody actually knows, but curious to hear people’s thoughts.

No way. I don't know what will happen but definitely not that.

BubblyBarbara · 14/04/2020 19:56

No, schools will enforce social distancing

Lumene · 14/04/2020 19:56

No. Lockdown rules and social distancing would be a bit different, it would be looser.

StrawberryJam200 · 14/04/2020 19:56

They seem to think social distancing is achievable in schools, ha ha... (I work in one.)

MissEliza · 14/04/2020 19:57

Oh my word. Stop the scare mongering and panicking.

spacepoppers · 14/04/2020 19:57

No way. Schools will reopen in September and life will return to normal(ish).

PicsInRed · 14/04/2020 19:57

Will schools be closed until 2022?

Christ I hope not. 😂

Serious answer: The economy would collapse. So no.

JillAndJack1 · 14/04/2020 19:57

How an earth will schools enforce social distancing? Especially for primary children who will struggle with urge not to play with each other not alone space issues.

No. Not a chance.

I'm not sure how we enforce social distancing in schools though seeing as class sizes have been getting bigger for years, rooms are smaller, space other than corridors is at a premium in my school and also we only have enough staff to staff one class.

StrawberryJam200 · 14/04/2020 19:59

Seriously, it’s all very unclear at the moment. Maybe research what other countries who’ve ended lockdown are doing, although I know some haven’t yet reopened schools. Everyone mask-wearing? Again, difficult to achieve 100% with kids....

BubblyBarbara · 14/04/2020 19:59

Social distancing was pretty natural in Victorian schools. Discipline, desks placed apart etc could do the trick. The goal is to reduce spread, not eliminate it.

maddy68 · 14/04/2020 19:59

Of course not. Will be back September at the latest. Schools will be the first thing to return

The article says intermittent social distancing. I don’t think this is anything new. Schools will go back but may need to close again for a time.

Nighttimefreedom · 14/04/2020 20:00

Of course they won't, get real.

BertNErnie · 14/04/2020 20:00

@BubblyBarbara I don't know any school that has the space to have 30 desks per class. In my school we sometimes have to have 3 pupils sitting around a desk that really is meant for 2.

StrawberryJam200 · 14/04/2020 20:00

It’s not the OP scaremongering, but I do think we all need to avoid thinking too hard about what might be to come, at the moment.

AgentCooper · 14/04/2020 20:01

Will they fuck. It would be like after the bomb dropped in Threads if the schools stayed shut till then.

BertNErnie · 14/04/2020 20:01

Also I have 50+ nursery children who don't sit at desks and 180 reception children who also don't sit at desks and have free flow learning throughout the day.

How would that work?

Split the kids into mornings and afternoons, lengthen the school opening hours, reduce the number of hours each child spends in schools, spread over 7 days instead of 5. Loads of options for reducing the number of children in school at any one time by "shifts", staggering start/finish etc. Yes, difficult to introduce and manage, but these are exceptional times. Schools won't return to previous normals until a vaccine comes out.

It’s April 2020. Are they going to keep schools shut for potentially 2 years?Of. Course. Not.
