Fascinating blog by a barrister on the legal situation (or lack thereof)

That policeman should get a bloody medal

justforthisnow · 09/04/2020 21:16

It's a policing by consent thing really, which is a model we work on in civilised society.
We agree to be policed, and keep our liberties, and the police agree to agree.
When things break down, then we either obey the guidelines or legislation is introduced for the greater good so we do obey.
I'm a complete leftie and totally see the logic in this. I am also watching it closely, because I am old and know how these times can open doors that are better left shut. I live in Ireland, where we now have legislation to back up the social distancing guidelines, and the first fucker I see travelling to their holiday home this weekend will feel the wrath of my gaze, and a visit from the Guards as I take down their registration.

Samtsirch · 09/04/2020 21:17

@MrsTerryPratchett
If you watch it you may realise how widely you have missed the point.

AmelieTaylor · 09/04/2020 21:17

'Mentally exercising' shouldn't have taken her more than 2 seconds 🤣

Choccyp1g · 09/04/2020 21:21

The police deserves a medal.

There should be a law against constantly interrupting a police officer, especially with that self-satisfied SMIRK in your voice.
I notice she didn't film herself, in case they put signs up around the hospitals saying "DO NOT WASTE OXYGEN ON THIS PERSON"

What a arse she was, patronising I jumped ahead couldn't put up with all 12 mins.

I don't know can you accidentally taser or spray someone with CS gas😅

Balhammom · 09/04/2020 21:28

What an imbecile.

Agree that the policeman deserves a medal.

Suspect she wouldn’t have been quite so smug if it had been in Spain or Italy. Otherwise she’d become rather well acquainted with someone’s toe cap or truncheon.

ChrissieKeller61 · 09/04/2020 21:29

JUst listening to yourselves, a bad idea to answer back the police, can't she just be gassed or tasered ? Fuck come back to me when you've a criminal record for buying over your allocation of niace ham Hmm

wheetos · 09/04/2020 21:29

I have reported you @ChrissieKeller61. There is no call to call someone a 'fucking idiot'. Have a look at the chat guidelines.

TiddyTid · 09/04/2020 21:30

She's a cock. No one with any sense who watches that agrees with her but she's so fucking entitled she filmed and published it thinking she was right. What an ARSEHOLE 😂

ChrissieKeller61 · 09/04/2020 21:30

@wheetos, read what I wrote. I did not call her a fucking idiot. But I guess reporting is what we all do now, how exciting is this Hmm

CrocodilesCry · 09/04/2020 21:32

Her eloquent verbosity entirely misrepesents her actual IQ

WTF Grin She's not eloquent. Fucking hell! What was all that nonsense about understanding meaning standing under? She's a knob!

Randomschoolworker19 · 09/04/2020 21:42

She did try the whole common law legal lease approach. The thing is we've moved on from common law. We're actually under maritime law. That's why islands are called islands in road ways because under the acts roads are actually considered bodies of water.

Police are allowed to interpret the law too. That's their job. That's why we have the CPS who later judge whether you're innocent or guilty.

Long story short, though, she's a tool. As the officer said, what she was doing wasn't in the spirit of the guidelines. He gave her the opportunity to walk away and go home, and even gave her the opportunity to take a fine rather than be arrested.

GabsAlot · 09/04/2020 21:42

Baked i dont see how the two are comparable this is a health situation not someones right to protest at a meeting

Rosehip10 · 09/04/2020 21:43

@ChrissieKeller61 Are you the women in question - you seem very invested and quick to defend her idiotic behaviour?

thesedaysarescary · 09/04/2020 21:46

Unfortunately there are so many people exactly like her all over this not so fine country. We are not having our freedom taken away, we are temporarily being asked to be a society that will work together to protect everyone! We should all be standing together (figuratively obviously) Stay home, Save lives protect the nhs. Not go out do whatever you want to because you're a selfish cunt who can't see past the end of your own entitled nose. I'm sick to the back teeth of all the people out there looking for ways to get round guidelines or who refuse to alter their own way of living as it's an inconvenience to them.
What I am proud of is the people who have just got on with it all, followed the guidelines and tried to keep the vulnerable safe. Who have made sacrifices to keep their families and other people's families safe, the key workers who are keeping it all together for everyone else.
I hope I can look back on this in the future and know I did everything that was asked of me and didn't do anything that risked someone else's life.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 09/04/2020 21:47

I have a strong aversion to authority. Being told what to do can make me very difficult. In normal circumstances I might object strongly to being asked to move along.

However, these are not normal circumstances and I wouldn't be wasting valuable Police resources making a vacuous point. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to police the regulations with no protection from infection and very few ways to compel people to behave like actual adults.

wheetos · 09/04/2020 21:54

@Dontdribbleonthecarpet I'm sorry that is very silly. If you are being asked to move along in normal circumstances you are being asked to move along for a reason.

My uncle was just like you. Was difficult with police just for his own kicks and eventually was cautioned and overnight was suddenly able to control his difficulty and aversion to authority.

ChrissieKeller61 · 09/04/2020 21:55

@Rosehip10 no I’ve not been out in weeks. But it’s a slippery slope you’re all gleefully sliding down.

justforthisnow · 09/04/2020 21:55

@dontdribbleonthecarpet gotcha inna nutshell! Engage common sense, save the outrage for when we really need and stay the fuck at home.

LastTrainEast · 09/04/2020 21:59

"understanding meaning standing under?" this is a Freeman of the land phrase. So she is seriously confused.

The Freeman-on-the-land movement is a loose group of individuals who believe that they are bound by statute laws only if they consent to those laws

BakedCam · 09/04/2020 22:03

@GabsAlot

Which I appreciate. However, Mrs TP does raise a deeper argument. The video is a surface view of a woman being a dick with the police.

At face value, it looks very much what it is.

The blog upthread explains this in more depth. While the police have new powers to act, she actually was not breaking any laws. She was socially distancing. She was sitting on a bench, she refused to move and go home.

What if and I'm playing devil's advocate, she didn't have a home to go to? What if she was fleeing DV?

It remains to be seen that she may well be charged with an offence. The blog upthread gives a legal overview on the woman at the train station.

Randomschoolworker19 · 09/04/2020 22:06

It's fine, if she wants to be a 'freeman' who isn't bound by our modern laws then she can also forfeit her right to a ventilator and NHS care when she gets the virus.

My late father had a phrase for people like her. He called people like that 'sandbags.' i.e. they were so empty and stupid that it would be more useful to use them as sandbags in a time of crisis like when we had the floods.
