Why? Why oh why are people still coming here on holiday?

Devon. We have seen caravans and motorhomes and people obviously on holiday (canoe and suitcases etc on car roof, all that stuff; it's bloody obvious), bikes loaded with camping stuff....

We live 20 miles from the beach and none of us have seen a wave for weeks. DH spends half the day complaining because he can't go to the beach in this lovely weather as he normally does.

Thank goodness the market is not on, or we'd be over-run. Really worried as both dd and I are vulnerable (not extremely vulnerable) and dh freaks out every time he has to go out as our Designated Shopper that he'll bring it home to us.

Why are people such arseholes?

We're going to need road blocks!

There is no cure for Coronavirus and, unfortunately, no cure for stupidity either. The country seems to have a lot of idiots that happily endanger everyone else, that think rules do not apply to them (probably while moaning about everybody else flouting the rules/guidelines). I am gobsmacked with just how many seem to be treating this crisis like an extended holiday, throwing parties, hosting BBQs and, in line with your thread, trotting off on days out and holidays. I hope that police not only set up road blocks and turn them around, but issue a big fat fine to go with it. If they didn't want to lose a few quid on hols see how they choke on an even bigger fine. Very few are unaffected by this, many have lost employment, suffered financially, been on lockdown for ages, gone without even basics and some families have had to endure the deaths of loved ones. Beats me how these selfish sods think invading a seaside town and potentially bringing virus to the residents there is OK - dumber than dumb, and bloody dangerous. The majority will have longer to endure suffering and being scared for our futures thanks to the pig-headed, arrogant, selfish actions of the minority. Not caring or being able to empathise with the feelings of others are traits of a sociopath or psychopath....these arseholes are potentially traveling around with the equivalent of a loaded gun and playing Russian roulette with anyone unfortunate enough to come into contact with them or anything they've touched or breathed on - a real-life horror story. I hope the Devon police and other police forces stamp down hard on this anti-social behaviour - what a shame that in times of real crisis this is the sort of crap we need to deploy our police for! Maybe we should leave a few of our paratroopers to deal with the dickheads!

Hope to see you in September though

Don't be so cruel. These people.are a special breed. They are so special Covid probably won't affect them. Didnt you know, tje news, regulations are way too beneath this special breed.

Sometimes known as Selfish Fuckers or Absolute Cunts or Entitled Twats they are immune to the law. They give no shits about the NHS or any key workers for that fact. They think they're intellectually superior as they spend their days laughing at those who follow the rules and discuss amongst themselves all the possible scenarios and loopholes that mean the STAY AT HOME message cannot possiblybapply to them. They do have one weakness though, they cant actually speak the words "Fuck You NHS Workers". They can only act out these feelings.

Often heard saying phrases and sentences tha begin with "yes but i have to..." "some people like me/us need to/have ..."

They're not mere mortals like the rest of us who want to protect our loved ones, the NHS etc. No they dont give a flying FUCK because they are the special ones.

Taddda · 10/04/2020 20:20

Dont hate second home owners, airbnb, or hotels our area depends on them, but our NHS is crap, anyone with two beans to rub together goes private, two years waiting list for orthopedics.

This exactly- surely people who live in the city are far better off staying put right now with extra resources being put in place to factor this in, instead of going to an area already stretched?

I'd love to be in the country right now, but I certainly wouldn't risk travelling to a more remote area or being part of a potential surge the area wouldn't be equipped to deal with!?

JulietTango · 10/04/2020 20:22

DH runs a caravan service and repair business. He's furloughed so it's me answering the phone. We've had people phone with problems this week and one customer wants the part they've ordered so they can fit it themselves and then go off in their motorhome 😩

Ilovegardens · 10/04/2020 20:22

Interestingly, humberside police posted photos of Bridlington seafront and it was totally deserted today. Generally people on low incomes holiday/day trip here and at this time of year it would be heaving, so how come they get it but the wealthy second home brigade don't think that the rules apply to them.

Gutterton · 10/04/2020 20:22

These people are directly responsible for the deaths of our wonderful NHS staff and frontline workers.

#SerialKillers.

plantlife · 10/04/2020 20:26

I've just thought. People in rural areas who think the facilities are better equipped to deal with this could move to the cities. No one is policing travel into cities.

XingMing · 10/04/2020 20:30

@SpoketooSoon. A great many people in low-pay rural areas feel hostile to the people who alight from afar and snap up a bargain property for use a few weekends and in holiday periods. They come for the scenery and the walks, but they hollow out the people who live here, and make it harder for people who want to live locally year round and work in essential jobs to afford anywhere decent to live. So you end up with a 2-bed cottage that might have worked for a young family at £500 pm being kept for a few weeks holiday use by the owner, plus the income earned from letting it to everyone else via Booking.com or Air BnB at £1500 per week in the summer, to offset the mortgage. Which takes that property out of the permanent letting pool.

But to Honeybee..... my car is registered in Orkney. I live in Cornwall, so I am out of area.

Teddybear27 · 10/04/2020 20:33

They are very selfish idiots and, of course, all the rules that apply to us don't apply to them...

Wolfgirrl · 10/04/2020 20:35

@plantlife

Why should they have to? Why dont second home owners just stay the fuck away and stop being such entitled arrogant arseholes? I used to live in Cornwall and the attitude of second home owners towards the locals was just shocking. One time I was sat on a (public) beach with a small group of friends and some holiday-making twat came out of his seafront cottage and asked us to disperse as we were 'making too much noise and ruining his peace'!! Even looking back objectively we weren't noisy, just excitable chatting and laughter, 7 or 8 of us max. They truly believe themselves to be superior and the locals only there to facilitate their holidays.

Oooh that felt good I dont normally swear!

TeensArghhhh · 10/04/2020 20:37

We have the same problem in Wales. What part of stay home don't people understand? I guess those special people, who think the rules don't apply to them, will be happy if they need medical assistance and are refused because the area they have decided to visit haven't made provision for them. But I doubt it!

Saz12 · 10/04/2020 20:38

Travelling anywhere unnecessary isn’t supposed to happen. Cities are better equipped... BUT the virus is worse in many urban areas. I would guess many tourists would head back home if they had symptoms, before they needed hospital treatment.

Saz12 · 10/04/2020 20:39

Is they are arrogant twats who wouldn’t be worried about poor local facilities.

PoppliosBubble · 10/04/2020 20:42

plantlife sure, that would be sensible Confused

plantlife · 10/04/2020 20:45

You get selfish entitled people everywhere. They do it in London too. Being priced out of local housing isn't unique to rural areas. It's very bad in London but loads of threads always tell people who can't afford to stay there they should just move somewhere cheaper. I understand why people are upset or angry but it's nasty to single out particular cities and to suggest the problems of bad resources and housing problems are only bad in rural areas. I don't think many rural areas have people I'm their 30s still having to flatshare or doctors not being able to afford their own home so it sounds like it's worse in London.

I understand people not wanting the virus. London and other large cities weren't protected but that's not rural areas fault, but please just be honest that it's worse for people in cities instead of pretending hospitals are better there. Obviously they're not coping or the nightingale ones wouldn't have been set up.

Thesepostsmakemechuckle · 10/04/2020 20:46

Interesting to read the thoughts of people who are posting that they are from London and getting a raw deal. No one is saying that everyone from London is being targeted...lots of people there are staying in and are just as angry about people flouting the rules. I have worked in hospitals in both London and the south west, so I can tell you what the difference is. London has far more ICU beds per head of population than places such as Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Also, it has a far greater number of hospitals per square mile than those rural areas, Cornwall only has one A&E dept. As these areas also have a much older population than London and the elderly are at greater risk from this virus, it stands to reason that the people who live here will be trying to prevent travel here. It is not their fault that people were allowed to fly into Heathrow and spread the virus around the city.... neither is it yours, however, you were well within your rights to stand together and voice your distaste at that being allowed just as people here can. The difference here is with 'choice' isn't it? You can choose to protect yourselves and others by staying in, that means staying at home and not traveling to areas that have much less NHS funding, specialists and equipment. It doesn't need me to point that out to you, surely? It isn't rocket science. We do not have capacity here. I work in the NHS and as I could well carry it, I don't go anywhere except to work and home and my children are staying away because it would be selfish of me to do anything that might endanger someone else.... just decency really, no need to even argue about that and I am sure you would have hoped people would be decent and not travel to London.

TeensArghhhh · 10/04/2020 20:49

Why would anyone who lives in an urban area choose to move to a city? Our hospitals are equipped to deal with our resident numbers. If the special people stayed away we would be just fine.

Stay away we don't want you here!

Boredinthehouse · 10/04/2020 20:50

@honeybee88 my car is registered up country - but I live in Cornwall Grin

TeensArghhhh · 10/04/2020 20:50

*rural not bloody urban! How could predictive text get that so wrong? 😏

TeensArghhhh · 10/04/2020 20:55

@honeybee88 my car is registered up country - but I live in Cornwall grin

Wow! We have a special person in our midst. How refreshing 🤷

plantlife · 10/04/2020 20:57

There's hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of elderly people in London. There's more hospital beds but more deaths too. Way more deaths. The hospitals and specialists might be better funded but they are for the whole country. Londoners don't jump the queue for treatment. I understand people don't want the virus and understand why they're saying stay away now but just be honest. Why do you think second home people tried to leave cities. You know it's because it's far far safer where you are, and you don't want people coming because you don't want to suffer the same fate as cities. That's understandable fear. Some posters on here though also clearly hate outsiders.

Numbness2020 · 10/04/2020 20:57

Travelling for work today on a30. Saw hardly an traffic

Wolfgirrl · 10/04/2020 21:03

@plantlife

That's why I say second home owners and not 'Londoners' etc. For all I know that bloke could've been from Wales or the Peak District, fact is they should not be going to their second homes at the moment (or preferably ever. Who needs two homes?!)

XingMing · 10/04/2020 21:07

@TeensArghhhh, I've owned the car for six years, and will own it for many more, and the previous owner was developing wave energy power generation systems, based in Cornwall and Orkney as research sites. Not quite the spin you seem to want to put on it.
