morning everyone,

I still haven’t heard back from 111 so we’ll call our GP. DH Is still sleeping he’s been working throughout this all from home and has been absolutely exhausted so I am going to let him sleep for a little bit my Dd was still getting up at 1am as she is not liking nights either she’s 11 she’s just got up too.

I have had some very broken sleep I decided after the panics I wasn’t going to try to sleep so got up made my self a hot choc and started on reading some threads on here to calm down. I kept falling asleep and waking back up. I did wake at 8am for my preventer inhaler. I took it and then my Chest settled a bit so I managed more sleep.

It’s interesting about the iron levels as I am anemic I was in 3 tablets a day and the reduced it back to 2, and I stopped taking them for a while. I have been making sure I take at least one a day while being ill however. We have also increased our meat in our diet but I have to be careful as my DH has hemochromatossis where his body retains too much iron. He is due to have a pint of blood taken off but this has been postponed because of the virus and he is getting the most awful gout flare ups because of this and can’t even take his naproxen for it.

I feel a little breathless today so far but otherwise fine now. Will wake hubby at 12 and call the GP then.

musicposy · 10/04/2020 11:12

pinkoneblueone Glad you both got some sleep In the end but can’t believe 111 still haven’t returned the call. Is the GP open today? I wasn’t sure if ours would be.

longshot · 10/04/2020 11:14

@Joeaj23 @Casino218 really wishing i had an oximeter! That could definitely explain the headaches.

Just spoken to my GP again, she basically asked loads of questions re heart racing etc but in the end dais stay home over the weekend, rest, take the antibiotics and if worse go to A&E (didn't say 111). She reckons I am no longer contagious but still won't see me at the surgery to do oxygen, bloods or listen to chest. Quite annoying really but I am going to sit in the sun. Determined to not get so stressed about it all today as that really didn't help me yesterday.

Main symptom for me today is incredibly tight chest and tiredness plus the shooting pains in left breast. Fun fun fun!

Casino218 · 10/04/2020 11:17

Hopefully I've sent a link to anyone who wanted to join WhatsApp group just in case we run into problems with Mumsnet.

Apologies if I've missed anyone who pm me as my brain is fudge at the moment x

stayathomegardener · 10/04/2020 11:27

@AnythingPecan I'm the last person to advise on anything technical but I'm on the app and it's definitely possible, go out of the thread and click on three lines top right and log in to my Mumsnet, Casino218 has sent you a pm.

@longshot that exactly tired, chest pressure and stabbing on left.

Had 7 hours sleep and woke more tired than I went to bed.

Oh and weird neurological stuff on and off most peculiar.

@longshot can you down load a phone app oximeter. Not massively accurate but probably accurate enough.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 10/04/2020 11:49

Can I warn everyone to be careful with the accuracy of fingertip oximeters. I have one that I purchased in January when all this was just starting (I knew I would be vulnerable so started planning early) and it has been very useful, but has also raised my anxiety at times.

Mine takes a few moments to get accurate so when you first put it on it sometimes reads worryingly low and then slowly rises. I also had a problem a few times when my hands were too cold and it couldn’t get an accurate reading (I have Raynaulds syndrome and any kind of blood flow issue will lower the monitor accuracy). This made me panic and that sent my pulse right up!

Mine also alarms if it drops below 95 which makes it extra stressful.

longshot · 10/04/2020 11:57

@Casino218 thanks, just downloaded one. What should I be looking out for as a red flag? Anything under 90 when moving around?

pinkoneblueone · 10/04/2020 11:59

Hi our GP is open today and they have said that they will try and see my husband today we have to wait on a call back. With 111 we had trouble every time they called DH would answer and then the call would disconnect.

fedupofbed · 10/04/2020 12:01

@pinkoneblueone sorry you both had such a bad night and hope you get some rest today.

As others have said, anxiety is a huge factor for me, especially at night. My hearts starts to race and I feel really panicky. I know this is slowing down my recovery as I never get enough sleep, which is so important for the immune system.

In the past, we could just pop to the doctor/ get a hospital appointment if we weren't well. In this strange new world we can't do this any more - we're having to monitor our symptoms ourselves and largely self manage. For me this has made me super sensitive to every smallest change in my body and the constant worry is exhausting.

For example, in the depths of the night when I couldn't sleep, I decided to use my oximeter even though I wasn't feeling particularly breathless- just for reassurance. The results were really low (94). Sat up, did deep breathing, changed fingers and got back up to 97/98. I'm sure this was just a blip but I have now created a new thing to worry about!!

As usual I'm still in bed today - exhausted, tight chest but fingers crossed temperature normal so far. I'm going to try and sit in the garden for a bit and get some vitamin D this afternoon.

fedupofbed · 10/04/2020 12:03

@NotAnotherUserNumber cross posted would definitely agree re oximeter. It's just made me more anxious.

Joeaj23 · 10/04/2020 12:14

regarding oximeters they can take a minute or so to give an accurate reading. sometimes i've put one on and had it read high 80s before instantly shooting up to high 90s. So leave it on for a minute or so before taking the reading

EMichel102 · 10/04/2020 12:35

Apparently many nyc doctors have been getting ill and are taking zinc and quercetin supplements (in addition to the anti-malarial meds that we aren’t using here. Has anyone heard about the Quercetin? Looked it up and makes sense but I’m not a medic.

onlinelinda · 10/04/2020 12:47

@DandyPenguin I am eating a lot, although I did initially lose 8lb . Also taking antibiotics which need to be taken with food, and at odd times to space evenly. I just about reached my BMI upper limit over the last year, so I'm trying to be cautious about what I'm eating, other than a rapidly developing hot cross bun habit.

Kitcat122 · 10/04/2020 12:47

@mumlurcker my pains are the same. Initially burning sore lungs with pressure/constricted chest. Now more stabbing pains all over chest area. Unless I over exert then burning sore lungs are back.

stayathomegardener · 10/04/2020 12:57

@NotAnotherUserNumber that's good information re oximeters I feel dire today and mine wobbles around a worrying 90 before climbing to 94.

Did test it yesterday on perfectly healthy DH and his was 80 so trying not to take any readings as gospel.

Spacecadetagain, reading your post with interest about dvt. Are we at risk of blood clots? My right calf and foot have had constant pins and needles since wed night and now has started in other foot. I feel as if I have sat on it for a period of time. It won't stop! Really worried about this.

Scampersaur · 10/04/2020 13:16

This has been very useful to read thank you everyone. My son aged 11 has now been unwell for 25 days, during this time he has had pretty much all the symptoms at various stages apart from lack of taste/ smell and no continuous cough. For the first week we thought it was just a random virus as the advice then was that the main Coronavirus symptom was the cough. But around day ten he became very breathless and felt he couldn’t get a full lung full of air. We didn’t take him to A&E as he could still finish sentences. After a few days the breathlessness became less of a problem but the chills, tummy ache, headache, random arm shakes have remained. It’s been so surprising to see him unwell for so long as he’s never normally ill at all. After nearly 3 weeks I began to worry that it might be something else, but the GP checked him over and couldn’t find anything else it could be. My GP sister now thinks it’s just taking him a long time to recover from Coronavirus. Really wish we had paid for a test earlier on (not sure it would be effective now) but we didn’t suspect it until the breathless stage when there was also more information about the possible symptoms. The rest of the family have been fine, apart from one day of awful headachey fluey symptoms for me followed by breathlessness ten days later. It’s so strange that recovery can take so long.

Meercatmama · 10/04/2020 13:27

Cant believe it just an hour ago the pain under ny right shoulder started again and I had a breathless episode. I just feel really tires again today so husband and I are just resting and just getting each other drinks when we feel a bit better. Thought I was over the worse but it keeps coming back so fed up

Casino218 · 10/04/2020 13:29

@longshot normal sats are 94 and above but in term of what the paramedics are saying to folks re Covid is call us back if below 90%. I'm not sure how much we can totally rely on phone oximeter though.

longshot · 10/04/2020 13:49

@Casino218 thank you. I have managed to get one so DH is off to collect it later. I think I am probably in the ‘ok’ zone as I can talk ok unless I’m walking around and then would be breathless if talking. However I would like to keep an eye on it and if no better by Monday I think my GP will at least see me.

Sadly i am getting the impression that some people seem to really struggle more than others to shift this thing. It lingers and keeps affecting some much longer that others. Dr said they don’t understand why, there’s no link and it doesn’t seem to be age or health related necessarily. Obviously there will be something that makes some people take longer to recover but they don’t know what it is yet.

Personally speaking I took ages to recover after a c section (kept getting infections etc) and have also had shingles and cellulitis twice, both are things that I think are generally unusual in someone in their 30s. I wonder if I’ve just got a bit of a shit immune system.

longshot · 10/04/2020 13:50

At rest the phone app oximeter says 98 so I guess that’s good although I know unreliable!

longshot · 10/04/2020 13:51

@Meercatmama sorry for you! What day are you on now? Really hoping we all pick up over this weekend!

Spacecadetagain · 10/04/2020 14:16

@tootsey normal healthy people aren’t no.. there’s always a small risk if you are bed bound for a long time you may develop one though which is why most people get stockings and an injection before and after an op. I developed a DVT for no reason in Dec although being a smoker for three years and Peri menopausal increased my risk factors . I was due to come off the anti coagulants but my care team were worried that my risk factors were much higher due to having a clot four months ago so they’ve left me on them .

pinkoneblueone · 10/04/2020 14:28

take it easy! My hubby had a call back from the doctors they didn’t take him in thankfully but said he is experiencing the after effects of the virus, which makes me think we are out of the woods and will be ok. They didn’t change his antibiotics However which I hoped they would. He is having the rubbish days I have just had, bless him I think I had about 3 or 4 days of it. Feeling a bit better today myself just have a bit of back pain and a bit of breathlessness otherwise I’m ok.
