@WorriesomeDad you expressed that so well, my thoughts exactly!

In a fit of pro activity I'm about to order a shedload of vitamin C. I hear it could be beneficial in very high doses? Has anyone tried this and found it helped? If so, what dosage? I've just looked at the Dr Myhill video and it does seem extremely high. A friend recommended 2500mg a day.

fedupofbed · 13/04/2020 21:43

Thank you @WorriesomeDad everyone is so helpful and supportive here

Dorual · 13/04/2020 21:44

Airwaves chewing gum for the burning breathless sensation guys! It's just saved me from a panic attack after a bout of coughing left my windpipe inflamed. Fresh.

TheDrsWife46 · 13/04/2020 21:46

Apologies for not name checking but @longshot i think it was you toying with doing something to do with talking/supporting people through this.

I dont know if people saw on the other thread but in my desperation that I couldnt talk to a practitioner I ended up calling the samaritans at my lowest point. I was absolutely mortified that I had stooped to that point esp as i dont have anxiety/depression in my life. At that moment I just needed to talk my concerns through with someone that wasnt Dh going “dont be silly you wont die” whilst i dont advocate tying up the samaritans what actually helped was that the adviser there was clearly trained in helping someone reason their way out... asking me what are you scared of? What can you do tomorrow to help you manage the symptoms? Etc etc.

The clear thing from all these threads is that there is just no information for those of us at home. We fall through a net where breathing is sufficient as a triage and so you end up an “organism breathing in a bed” and not actually living a life in your home. The services like Covid specialists or units clearly vary around the country and so we all feel more abandoned when we cant access that.

The mental impact of being left to flounder alone at home, i think for all of us has been significant. What I would have given to have called a Covid helpline equipped with information on symptoms and aids to soothe it.

Thank god for these threads. Genuinely.
The ONLY place where anecdotal evidence and empathy has been abundant. 💕

TheDrsWife46 · 13/04/2020 21:47

@fedupofbed
You need @stayathomegardener she is an expert on dr sarah myhill and vitamin c

fedupofbed · 13/04/2020 21:53

Thank you @TheDrsWife46. I'm sorry I've not read all the threads properly but sounds like you've had a really tough time. Do you think you're through the worst now?

TheDrsWife46 · 13/04/2020 22:01

@fedupofbed im much better than i was!! And i got antibiotics today so hopefully that’ll give me a leg up but im on day 22 and still breathing issues. And the guys on this thread show me that i can expect more dips. But since this thread its helped me to see a pattern in my own journey and im not scared of dying. Im scared that this is how i’ll be stuck!!

Meercatmama · 13/04/2020 22:06

I agree with @TheDrsWife46 it is the it is the mental impact of being left to flounder at home that is the worst thing. I have never had so much anxiety about my health or my husbands health in such a short time and having no where to turn to has made it so much harder. When I discovered these threads back on thread one it was such a relief to know I was not the only one and without the kindness of people on here when I was at my lowest I don't think I could have got through it. Thank you to all of you
@longshot I think your idea of doing something to help others is a brilliant idea. Just being able to talk to someone who understood what we have been through would have helped all of us with the anxiety and made us feel not so alone

ChippedPotatoesLloyd · 13/04/2020 22:19

Day 45 here but think I need to stop counting in days really...have had a good couple of days. Chest pains and chest working hard feeling gone again, taken it really easy, finished antibiotics and felt like back to myself. Went for a walk this eve for 20mins and my goodness, WHEN WILL THIS END?!!! Back to pleurisy type pain when breathe in and breathless/chest working hard again ever since. Can't believe this is now the seeming new state of my health when 7 wks ago I was in the gym multiple times per week and completely healthy. Has anyone had antibiotics that have fully resolved their chest pain? Trying to gauge if it is worth asking for more or just trust that time is the best healer. Also does anyone with private healthcare know where we stand in terms of follow up investigations/treatment for permanent damage arising from this? Just wondering about trying to pursue this...
Sending everyone the very best wishes. Like others say, still finding this thread great comfort so thanks to you all.

OneDayAtATime123 · 13/04/2020 22:19

@fedupofbed
Day 22 ~23: I am taking 3gm Vitamin C (Liposomal) every day. I still have mild breathlessness and occasionally get mild headaches too (started recently). My fatigue has improved though. I can walk for approx. 20 minutes without problems. My pulse rate is still slightly high at times ( 75 to 95), but my BP is normal (115 / 72). I also take zinc , turmeric and NAC daily.

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 22:20

Yes, @longshot, great idea. We are all so lucky to be in this thread. But what else is out there? If you haven’t been on Netmums or read that NY Times article, I am not sure where else you could find support and information.

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 22:22

Mumsnet! Apologies for the mistake.

fedupofbed · 13/04/2020 22:33

@ChippedPotatoesLloyd oh I'm sorry that's so demoralising. Just hope it's 2 steps forward 1 back. I used to run in my pre covid life and seems like a distant dream now.

Thank you very much @OneDayAtATime123 sounds like your recovery is going well. I've just ordered a kilo of vit c.

longshot · 13/04/2020 22:53

Just ordered a load of vitamin C although hoping at day 34 i will need it less but who knows....!

Off to bed now but yes it was me @TheDrsWife46 and @Moodgie who mentioned setting something up. I need to give it some thought. I am in no way health trained so would need to up my skills rather a lot I think. I work as a Coach for people currently returning to work / career change / dealing with issues at work predominantly but can see the huge benefit that having someone to speak to who had been through this would have bought to me. Having said that as time passes and we know more perhaps it won't be necessary (i hope) as we will have a vaccine and more knowledge!

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 23:01

@fedupofbed I'm the absolute oracle on vitamin c protocol via Dr Myhill so ask away.

Normally I take about 5g of ascorbic acid powder a day as a maintenance dose but found I went up to 50 g daily at my worst and now settled on around 25-30g
Also trialing liposomal vitamin c as well in the last few days which I'm finding confusing but seem to be getting a good response.

My evening blood pressure is usually 100/60 (longterm), and even sometimes drops to 96/54. but the last 2 nights I've taken it and it's been 120/80. Do viruses raise blood pressure? Or could it signify inflammation or start of a secondary infection or something? I know it's still good bp, but there's a definite rise.

fedupofbed · 13/04/2020 23:18

Thank you @stayathomegardener I've just ordered 1kg ascorbic acid and then realised my kind MIL had already sent me some so now I have loads!

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 23:22

@stayathomegardener
How does this compare to 1000 mg Vitamin C tablets please? I have the Holland and Barrett C-1000 with rose hips and take 2-3 daily.

Egghead68 · 13/04/2020 23:51

I used to run in my pre covid life and seems like a distant dream now.

Same here. Last time I ran was on 15th March, just under a month ago. It definitely seems like another lifetime. I’d settle for being able to walk for a solid minute at the moment.

notangelinajolie · 13/04/2020 23:54

Hi @longshot. Good to see you are getting there.

I'm Day 34 too and I'm ok. The first day of me feeling ok was day 31.
I'm still a bit wary of doing anything that will trigger the awful breathless feeling and I'm still a bit tired but on the whole I'm much better.

I haven't posted on this thread before (just the lungs one) but I thought I should let everyone know that you do get better eventually.

All I want now is the antibody test for me and my family. Still a bit worried for my DH who doesn't seem to have had it yet but maybe he has and is asymptomatic. Either way we'd like to know.

Night all. Hope everyone feels better soon.

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 23:55

@egghead68 @fedupfbed I am a runner too. And same, I would love to just be able to go for a walk.

fedupofbed · 14/04/2020 00:20

@notangelinajolie thank you for posting and letting us know that you're feeling better - very encouraging.

@Moodgie @Egghead68 yes I had a little fantasy today about being back out running - fresh air, blue skies, countryside, listening to some uplifting music. Something to aim for!

WorriesomeDad · 14/04/2020 03:54

Yep, runner, skier, biker, climber. All seems like so long ago now! Determined to get back there now. I do manage short walks with the kids (although now struggle keeping up with our two year old if he puts on a turn of speed!) so can’t complain too much.

When I initially first thought I had a cold (and was getting over it) I went for a ride on my mountain bike. In retrospect I think it only served to blast this thing into my lungs good and proper!

We will get back there, it will just take time.
