@jojeaj23 glad to know you are feeling better. Did you manage to see your GP face to face? Were they ok to see holy despite covid symptoms?

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 17:39

@godhelpusall
www.nytimes.com/2020/04/13/opinion/coronavirus-recovery.html
It works for me. Please try clicking on this one. Good article.

Joeaj23 · 13/04/2020 17:44

@godhelpusall basically the article is talking about how the media has underplayed how horrific a 'mild' case of covid can be, and talks about the fact we will be looking at many people taking a long long time to recover

NotAnotherUserNumber · 13/04/2020 17:48

@godhelpusall and @TheDrsWife46

I have spoken to my GPs a few times over the weeks and they have been great. I think I might call them again tomorrow for some further reassurance. I also did have antibiotics a few weeks back (doxycycline) because they thought I might have a secondary infection and my lungs have improved vastly since then.

I also had a trip to A&E by ambulance in the second week of my symptoms, and they were also very helpful and reassuring. I had a lung X-ray, blood tests and an ECG and the conclusion was that I had viral pneumonia, assumed covid, but didn’t need to be admitted overnight (so not tested).

So I can’t fault the medical attention I have received, but, like us all no doubt, I just want this to be over.

I take immunosuppressants for chronic conditions and also have an immune deficiency, so I am worried that I just can’t seem to beat it and maybe I can’t form the right antibodies in sufficient quantities.

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 17:49

@Moodgie wow. Great article.

Joeaj23 · 13/04/2020 17:52

@user34254356 my local GP (Newport, Wales) has a section of the car park specifically for COVID and the GP came and examined me while I sat in the car.

He had on full protective gear with a face mask and gloves, he didn't seem too concerned.

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 17:52

@Joeaj23 that was a very helpful article. More like that!

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 17:58

Thank you, @Joeaj23! Really good read.

OneDayAtATime123 · 13/04/2020 18:01

@Moodgie
great article ! We are not alone in this mess

TheDrsWife46 · 13/04/2020 18:07

@NotAnotherUserNumber
Please don’t be offended if I say this, because I know how completely petrifying it is but I would urge you to take solace in the fact that you are so far along, and that you’ve been seen and kind of know what the status quo was when you were seen. Thats not me saying you have it better, please dont think that, but I think a lot of fear for us is that we cant get seen. Its massively exhausting for me on week 3, never mind if your on week five. Try to hold on to how you were when you were seen and that you havent, and are exceptionally unlikely to dip now. The article above and the one in the daily mail show that there is a lot more information coming out about longer term recovery. Are you having moments of wellness at this time with cyclic bursts of symptoms again. Or finding it very unmanageable. Taffyapple8 on the lungs thread had a half dose of valium that helped her manage her own ability to cope when she felt really despondent. For me night times are the absolute worst. It all ramps up and im acutely aware of every sensation.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 13/04/2020 18:12

@TheDrsWife46

I am not offended at all, that’s actually a really helpful reminder. I know that at this stage there is very little risk of me dying and I do feel much less scared than I did at weeks 2 and 3. I guess I am moving on from fear and anxiety into depression.

Thank you for your replies. They have helped me feel less alone in this and see a way forward. We just have to all get through this and it will end at some point.

WorriesomeDad · 13/04/2020 18:28

@Joeaj23 thanks so much for sharing that article. We are not alone. Finally, some sort of actual recognition as to the difficulty many many people are having in recovery.

@NotAnotherUserNumber we are with you completely. I know exactly how you feel.

Bornlazy · 13/04/2020 18:29

@Joeaj23 that’s a great article. It’s interesting to see that mental health seems to have been affected so much for many people.

@LonelyFromCorona why do you ask? Do you think it invalidates peoples experiences not having a positive test? Do you realise that if you get CV you won’t be tested unless you are unlucky enough to need to be admitted to hospital? Does it make you feel good trying to make people who are at their lowest ebb feel bad? Shame on you.

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 18:30

This group has definitely been helping me mentally. Thank you to all of you.

Standrewsschool · 13/04/2020 18:33

@Moodgie - good article. It could have been written by one of us!

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 18:34

@standrewsschool
All credit to @Joeaj23 - I have just reposted the link as one of wasn’t able to access the article.

user34254356 · 13/04/2020 18:44

@jojeaj23 that's a great service. Sadly I don't have anything similar on offer where I live. It must be really reassuring.

Monty6 · 13/04/2020 18:44

@joeaj23 - agree, great article. Thanks for sharing.

D33 here and back feeling rubbish - I struggled to summon the energy to move around much today and my temperature was back up a bit. I had a better day yesterday so still on the roller-coaster ride. It helps to know that this is not unusual. I think I am starting to reach acceptance that it might take time. It helps to have the reality of recovery discussed more in the media to help with conversations at work and with family and friends.

I am not looking forward to the restart of home-school tomorrow. I have also got a few work meetings scheduled to squeeze in around the edges. I might have to take a judgment call in the morning of what to attempt.

I think some people were asking about gummy eyes further up the thread - apologies I cannot remember who it was now. Conjunctivitis can apparently be associated with covid - more as a later stage symptom. My husband has this, as well as chemosis (I had never heard of this before - it is like a small blister on the white of the eye).

longshot · 13/04/2020 18:46

@Joeaj23 glad to hear your update. I’m Day 34 and feel very similar. Not at all good yesterday, very similar to as you say you were. Today I feel so much more like myself but too scared to assume I’m finally starting to recover...but there’s at least some relief from the endlessness of the symptoms even if it turns out to just be for a day!! I agree rest rest rest...it’s going to take weeks to get over. I have struggled mentally too. I had no mental health issues or serious anxiety previously but I am pretty convinced this will have some some damage (maybe more mental than physical?). Anyway good luck and I hope your family are pleased to have you back around even if you can’t do the walks (yet)...neither can I!

longshot · 13/04/2020 18:51

I am starting to wonder if long term I might try to set up some sort of help for people going through this. I must be feeling better to even be considering this. It’s not a million miles from my actual current job and I’m now wondering if helping people deal with the effects might be something I could try to do. I would never have considered this before but now having experienced it it’s made me realise just how important the support of others is when you feel this way. Thanks to every one on here who has offers kind words and advice. Flowers

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 18:52

@Monty6 thanks for that. How far on/ recovered is your dh? I've had the eyes thing for about two weeks.

Peacenquiet2 · 13/04/2020 18:54

Hi everyone, can I please ask a question on this thread? I haven't had chance to read through it properly as there dc mithering so sorry if it's been discussed. I just wondered if anyone could tell me if they got chills as their first sign of this virus?
Since last night I've felt a bit off but nothing major, and felt as though I've not been able to get completely warm, but then again there was a change in the weather. I've also got a mild headache. I've been in contact with key workers dc as I work in a school and also have been going shopping for our family, do potentially I could have come into contact with someone infected. Hoping it's just me being paranoid. Thanks

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 18:58

@Monty6 Week 3 I had itchy and watery eyes, on and off.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 13/04/2020 18:59

@WorriesomeDad sorry you feel the same, but thank you for your reply!

TiddleTaddleTat · 13/04/2020 18:59

Peacenquiet my first symptoms were feeling off, a headache, and chills.
I had mild diarrhoea the day before.
After that the 'typical' symptoms followed.
I should add that I never had a test but my symptoms suggested a typical mild case.
Hope you feel ok X
