@pinkoneblueone I have never had a cough, but breathlessness still here, very up and down, had a bit of a sore throat yesterday, but I thought it was maybe from clearing my throat and forced coughing.
What does your breathlessness feel like?

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 13:18

@Egghead68 Muriel has a far sharper mind than I possess.

We have of course asked before we have taken photos and she knows I'm sending them to my "friends" online.

She is not a pet.

She has been very grateful for all the tips on here which are helping her recovery from "this horrible virus" and now asks after certain posters by name. Although still slightly confused @TheDrsWife46 not being married to a Doctor.

@pinkoneblueone I have a sore throat threatening frequently, which unnerves me.

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 13:23

@WorriesomeDad I'm definitely improving, burning chest, temperature spikes, iffy sleep and fatigue.

I'm doing very little.

I do have concerns that it's never going to go as I had ME for about 17 years and don't like the current similarities.

But 🤷‍♀️ I've recovered from that before and can do so again I guess.

@stayathomegardener is it possible that we are experiencing post viral fatigue rather than the virus?

TheDrsWife46 · 13/04/2020 13:28

@stayathomegardener i properly laughed out loud at muriel confused at my husband. When i first joined mumsnet i was a massive moto gp fan and Valentino Rossi who is termed “the doctor”

Dh is actually a procurement director in construction.

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 13:28

@godhelpusall you could try hitting it with high dose ascorbic acid vitamin c, iodine via a salt pipe, propolis throat spray or chewable zinc tablets if you have any of those to hand.

If not steaming is good and hot drinks plus a hot water bottle on your throat.

This virus in my experience does not like heat.

@godplusall i have thought of post viral fatigue too but i have a raised heart rate and on/off temperature spikes which makes me think my body is still fighting this darn thing

musicposy · 13/04/2020 13:36

tangledyarn thank you; I was awake until about 5.30am then dozed so am a bit wobbly today. I’d sleep better if I didn’t keep having “nightmares” that people were holding house parties in my house!

godhelpusall I have a sore throat threatening a lot too. It’s worse if I talk too much so I think it goes in hand with a generally hoarse voice. I think this virus just rips through you affecting every respiratory passage it touches.

Yes, I feel stigmatised. It’s like having the bloody plague - doctors won’t touch us, 111 won’t touch us unless our breathing is so bad we’re in desperate danger. People sound shocked that I may have had it “why haven’t you been social distancing?” is very much the theme. I’ve had it because DH works at an airport and was forced to keep searching people from all countries and regions, packed into close proximity, way after they knew about the risk. We couldn’t avoid it, we had no choice.

I do have concerns that it's never going to go as I had ME for about 17 years and don't like the current similarities. Same here, stayathomegardener, absolutely. I was diagnosed in my twenties and this is eerily similar to that and to subsequent relapses. However, like you, I’ve beaten it before and gone on to lead a pretty normal life so I’m trying to hope I can do it again. It feels so, so slow, though.

I think I’d feel better over the whole thing if I knew I was immune and would never get it again. When I hear reports that you might be able to get it all over again after 3 months or the virus keeps re-emerging I just feel like giving up now. I cannot do this all over again.

Egghead68 · 13/04/2020 13:39

Glad to hear it @stayathomegardener.

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 13:40

@musicposy what do you mean about the virus keeps re-emerging? What fresh hell is this?!

SchrodingersKitty · 13/04/2020 13:44

Hi All

I think I am pretty much better - day 34. I've noticed something, though, which is that I am much more wary around adrenaline. I work as an academic, and I am very used to the rise in adrenaline before giving a lecture or when having to gear up to work very fast to read a book or write a lecture for an immediate deadline. I'm trying to catch up with work and I'm finding that the feeling of heart beating faster and brain working more is making me feel very anxious - I think it is my body warning me that I need to take it easy still. It is very difficult to break the working habits of a life time, but I think i'm going to have to.

Gunner30 · 13/04/2020 13:46

@longshot - It's just a theory, but pretty sure it isn't costochondritis @Egghead68, as i've had that before a long time ago. My coughing hasn't been severe enough to injure the ribs and this seems to move around the chest area and has at time moved to the arms and shoulders. Thanks for the feedback and to be honest I wish it was that. Hope you're both doing ok ;-)

@pinkoneblueone that's interesting, Hope he's doing ok and i'll post again tomorrow with an update. Thanks

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 13:47

@SchrodingersKitty that's interesting. I'm a lecturer as well and used to a fast pace and I too am struggling with that. I had a tutorial this morning and felt quite anxious beforehand. I'm at the same stage as you and tentatively feeling better (although always on the lookout for a new and unanticipated symptom 🤨)

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 13:49

@Gunner30 I was reading that Costochondritis can be the result of a virus not just coughing. I wondered about that too.

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 13:49

@godhelpusall if it were not for the burning chest and temperatures spikes I would say 100% yes.
It's still affecting all my functions in a minor way neurological, adrenal, hearing, temperature regulation etc which is all too familiar.

Will reserve judgment for now.

The interesting thing is I developed ME from a live flu jab so I would expect this to be similar.

Key thing to remember is post viral fatigue is very common after a bad viral episode, I personally would expect many to develop it following this it's almost like the body's protective response to make you rest.

Don't push it and rush back to things, support your body and its very recoverable.
Dr Sarah Myhill is brilliant for support and guidance if anyone needs any.

I was far worse than this when she started treating my daughter and I five years ago.

My DD's mitochondrial function was below 30% in school part time and she completely recovered.

@TheDrsWife46 construction you say... I fear your advice will be downgraded 😁

@Moodgie I have asthmatic so have used my inhaler to help but it was as though I was having asthma twinges in my chest

WorriesomeDad · 13/04/2020 13:53

@SchrodingersKitty that’s good to hear you are getting better. Interesting about the adrenaline. I work in the adventure industry and my job necessitates a lot of adrenaline inducing situations! To be fair though, it’s not like I’ve got any work coming up for rather a long time!

eyebrowsofinstagram · 13/04/2020 13:53

I've been feeling steadily worse for the last 5-6 days. I think I should phone the doctor but I'm not sure what to say, for 2 days it was temperature, then breathing difficulties, now temperature back and breathing manageable but not great. But I feel worst of all today.

Do you think I should get my oxygen levels checked? Do you think that would make a difference?

Moodgie · 13/04/2020 13:53

Thank you @pinkoneblueone.
Anyone else still breathless?

mumlurker · 13/04/2020 14:01

@gunner30 welcome to the thread! I've had the same sort of dull pain/discomfort moving around near my heart, worse or more noticeable at night. Combined with random night time palpitations its terrifying. Putting it down to inflammation of some sort.

I was actually thinking of trying out some natural anti-inflammatories (my whole body feels inflamed!). Anyone have any experience with good old herbal remedies?

godhelpusall · 13/04/2020 14:01

@eyebrowsofinstagram that's no good. What day are you on? Maybe worth calling gp?

eyebrowsofinstagram · 13/04/2020 14:04

Thanks @godhelpusall I think I'm day 22 or 23.

Yes I should call- just feeling so bad I can't face it

stayathomegardener · 13/04/2020 14:04

@SchrodingersKitty talking about adrenaline that's so interesting, I think Ive posted this before but on Friday I went out for the first time with DH to supervise the click and collect (he touches everything!) anyway not even driving, half an hour should have been fun just to leave the house after a month but I actually felt dreadful, so bad we almost turned back, breathing all over the place, was convinced I was going to have a massive relapse.

Collected the shopping and it was like a switch, the drive back I was a different person, had a really good evening too. Although tanked a bit Saturday/Sunday which ties in.

It was DD who flagged up adrenal fatigue, I think because she was tested and treated for it.

I don't think it was anxiety, I didn't have anxiety in my old life.

This is weird. I lost my taste and smell 3 weeks ago and I did an inhalation with menthol at the time but put loads in as I couldn't smell it. Eventually I could smell it even though I couldn't smell anything else. Since my smell came back after a week I have had a permanent taste of menthol in my mouth. Any ideas??!
