I’ll catch up properly later but wanted to say thanks for the replies, I’m so glad it’s not just me who’s been ravenous.

Although today, day 24, I’ve felt nausea for the first time. And deep, deep rib & lung pain. I went for a dog walk for over 20 mins last night and think I overdid it. This sucks. Hang in there folks.

Standrewsschool · 11/04/2020 16:22

I didn’t loose my sense of taste or smell. However, my appetite decreased and the food I wanted was fresh tasting and I developed a metallic taste. It was like early pregnancy. Calippos and orange juice became my favourite food.

DandyPeguin · 11/04/2020 16:23

I’ve developed a craving for roll mop herrings and pickled beetroot, so I completely relate to it being like pregnancy!

@Porcupineinwaiting
Thanks. I saw this in the article. Did I miss something else ?
"Therefore, at least in laboratory mice, mild to moderate exercise may also be protective after we get infected with the flu virus, whereas a little exercise is good while no exercise – or even too much exercise – is bad".

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 11/04/2020 16:49

Hi Everyone, Day 30 for me. I was the one moaning on the lungs threads because I ran a temp of 37.8 for 26 days. I am pleased to report that for the past 48 hours I have not had a temperature.

This is making me very happy as I feel like now the infection must be gone and I just need to recover. Did a longish walk yesterday and today I am very tired. Feeling better after lying down for a couple of hours though.

TheDrsWife46 · 11/04/2020 16:53

@Grapefruitsarenottheonlyfruit
Thats reassuring. Im on day 20 and my temp has just been sat at 37.6 all the time. Last night i got a massive wave of heat like a hot flush and stil the same temp. I had to respond because although Im managing the tight chest, breathlessness etc at the moment, it was the fact that you have managed a walk. I just cant even contemplate walking anywhere im still massively weak. In fact I feel more “fluey” than at the peak of this.

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 11/04/2020 17:03

@TheDrsWife46 On Monday so Day 25 my temp was constantly 37.8 or 37.9 in the afternoon and evening and a little less the rest of the time. The GP prescribed antibiotics and it rapidly dropped to 37.5 to 37.6 before just not coming up at all yesterday and today. I think probably I had developed a secondary infection.

I think that gentle walking for short periods of time is good because it losens the chest mucus and promotes slightly deeper breathing. I think I overdid it yesterday.

Have you tried antibiotics yet?

Needsomegoodnews · 11/04/2020 17:04

Anyone else finding the mental rollercoaster almost as bad as the physical? I’ve been in tears and have struggled to even get up today just because breathlessness has worsened and temp up again a bit, after thinking I was through it for a couple of days (now day 26) - realistically, I’m still better than I was in the second week when I really couldn’t get up, just feel so low with it. After several bouts of good days/bad days over the past couple of weeks you’d think I’d have made my peace with it!

stayathomegardener · 11/04/2020 17:09

@longshot I'm day 31 and had a couple of really bad days.

Chest burning, lung pain, weird breathing, fatigue, jelly legs, neurological stuff in hands, shins and strangely my nose. Definitely thinking I need antibiotics.

And then today I feel good again.
I Do Not Trust This In The Slightest.

@pinkoneblueone that would be so reassuring to just be in a post viral state. I do hope your DHs Dr is right

@Monty6 my timeline almost matches yours, I do hope this period of feeling up is sustained. I've made a note of the testing companies you mention.

I think Muriel is the furthest down the line at day 38+ and she is definitely improving despite being on steroids and having an autoimmune condition.
Not linear for her though, still has a bad day if she overdoes it.

@ChippedPotatoesLloyd I now see you are day 40 and dipping 😢

@mumlurker I developed post viral fatigue from a live flu jab around 2002ish it feels exactly like this. I went from very fit to nothing. It was incredibly hard to explain how bad it was. There is so much you can do to recover from it once you are over the acute stage, get as much rest as you can now which will definitely help.

@SchrodingersKitty good to hear your update.

@GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit no antibiotics for me or my DD1 as yet. Im gonna have to get Easter out of the way and call again if no better. Im wearing my apple watch again. After being ill i gelt like it was taunting me to get active but because it records heart rate walking/resting etc Im hoping that i’ll be able to see the trends/improvements. Just very very tired and tearful from it all now.

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/04/2020 17:29

@OneDayAtATime123 yes, further down:

"It is clear that other too much exercise or exercising when sick increases the risk of medical complications and dying"

I think they are drawing the distinction between moderate exercise at the point of infection (ie when you still feel fine) which can boost the immune system and exercising when you are symptomatic, which makes things worse.

WorriesomeDad · 11/04/2020 17:34

@Needsomegoodnews yep totally with you on that one. I’ve found the psychological aspect of this whole thing really challenging. I’m normally fit and well and not very good at being sick at the best of times even if it’s just a cold. Being properly ill for a prolonged period of time has really affected me. It’s certainly given me a new found respect for anyone coping with long term health conditions.

mumlurker · 11/04/2020 17:35

@Needsomegoodnews

I've definitely found this a real test in terms of mental health. I must have been in tears at some point every day for the past week, just out of sheer frustration! At least at this point I'm finding it more frustration than pure fear, as we seem to be through the worst of it. Saying that, I've just had a horrible fit of breathlessness that's really thrown me - no idea why it comes on all of a sudden.

OneDayAtATime123 · 11/04/2020 17:47

@Porcupineinwaiting
Thanks. I use my symptoms as my guide. I personally would not exercise with fever, cough or shortness of breath.

EMichel102 · 11/04/2020 17:47

@Needsomegoodnews @WorriesomeDad @mumlurker completely echo your thoughts on the mental rollercoaster and not knowing when it will end when I’ve never had any major health problems before.

Does anyone still get headache-y every day at around 5ish? Really frustrating for me on Day 26 to still get this every day and still get a bit of nighttime sweating even though no fever. Makes me wonder when this will end!

mumlurker · 11/04/2020 17:56

I'm having headaches in the morning through to about 4pm, head feels like it's too heavy to hold up on it's own. Seem to ebb and flow throughout the day.

Is anyone getting real 'fits' of breathlessness? Some days I'm kind of breathless when I move around, but also getting the occasional blip where it comes over me almost like a panic attack would, and I just have to lie down and let it pass. Followed by lots and lots of yawning!

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/04/2020 18:04

Yes I still get fits if breathlessness. Not terrifying anymore thankfully but I do regularly have to go and lie down on my front til they pass.

mumlurker · 11/04/2020 18:09

Yes that's one thing - I've learned not to be so scared of them. Wish I had one of those massage beds where you can rest your head but still breathe, would be perfect for this!

everythingisginandroses · 11/04/2020 18:11

@Lightsabre Thank you for inviting me across here Flowers

Day 26 here. Still quite tired, I can still feel my lungs (I think you all know what I mean by that!), still hot on and off but temp has been normal at times (I think, not checking thermometer so often now as it's not best quality and I know it reads high).

I have been back at work on 50% hours this week, WFH, don't know if that's a good idea or not! My employer is expecting 75% next week. How are others back at work getting on?

@mumlurker I am not so much getting breathless as that feeling like my heart is working really hard just doing normal stuff, or even lying in bed. It comes and goes. It might be psychosomatic, but I am finding that the 'JK Rowling' breathing exercises help with this. I feel more normal after I've done a set of these.

I think I am accepting that I may not be fully well for a few more weeks, but I do definitely get frustrated at times. Today is my 22nd wedding anniversary and I have drunk some prosecco, also been allowing myself the odd beer over these last few evenings. It's probably not good conduct, I know, but I am tired of being ill and want to live! I am also drinking as much water as I can on top of this.

I am also trying not to get impatient with people who are well and don't understand. I probably got deleted off one of the innumerable threads about barbecues after I flung a bit of abuse around Blush Sad

mumlurker · 11/04/2020 18:19

@everythingisginandroses

welcome!

Hopefully we can all graduate from this thread soon enough, but I've decided today just to accept it might be another month before I'm better. I think up until now I've been thinking "I hope by the end of this week i'm better" and ending up frustrated and disappointed. Right now I would settle for 'improving' over 'staying the same and sometimes even getting worse'.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 11/04/2020 18:21

@TheDrsWife46 I think our symptoms sound exactly the same!

I'm day 20 too, and I tried a 5 min walk on Monday- and it completely floored me. I'm really angry with myself as I was feeling close to 100%, and thought a bit of fresh air would do me good- and it's since then I've had the chest, lung and breathing problems and a fever. Before that I just had bad flu symptoms and a cough. The GP said the walk made the virus attack my lungs. Maybe if I hadn't walked it would have all gone away???

I'm quite fit and walk every day normally, plus jogging- so was horrible surprise not to get to end of my road. But then I had to walk back and I could tell it was too much for me but had to keep going to get home.

I wonder if I've developed a secondary infection. My temperature underarm is 36.7 (when I don't feel hot), but they say you should add a full degree to that to get full body temperature? Not sure, but I may contact my GP on Tuesday if necessary.

WorriesomeDad · 11/04/2020 18:24

@mumlurker @Porcupineinwaiting yes, still getting exactly what you describe, still finding it scary!

Lightsabre · 11/04/2020 18:29

@everythingisginandroses, I would kill for a large, cold glass of Provence Rose now but was scared off alcohol on another thread as apparently it lowers immunity. Happy Anniversary anyway (although I'm sure next years one will be much happier!).

Meercatmama · 11/04/2020 18:35

I still get the breathless episode yesterday afternoon they were on and off all afternoon then in evening stopped. It is not as frightening as it was before but there is no real pattern to them I also was very tired yesterday. Today has been different again. I think I will take mumluker's approach and say I am in for the long haul and take each day as it comes now

everythingisginandroses · 11/04/2020 18:40

@Lightsabre Thank you! Wine Smile
