@Joeaj23 thanks for posting that, interesting reading. Made me feel better about my own experience. While not quite as severe, my symptoms have been identical and can certainly relate to the bit about being “stuck in the same place for a couple of weeks without really getting better.”

baroqueandblue · 11/04/2020 12:44

I haven't had any loss of taste or smell, @Quarantinequeen

Slept from around 6.30 til 11ish. Feeling more together this morning and resolved to continue with antibiotics. Whoever posted earlier about seasonal pollen allergy, yes I definitely get that every year and of itself that can hit me very heavily. Double whammy! And the windows were open until I woke up around 3.45 so if the pollen was moving that would explain how I felt to some extent.

Bit of a cough again now but so far energy and pain levels not too bad. Day 26. Have to get out for some air and a wee walk this afternoon, not been out since Monday Sad

fedupofbed · 11/04/2020 12:44

@eyebrowsofinstagram I hope you get to speak to someone soon and do keep us posted. Wise words from @Littleninja1 - I've never been really ill before and it's been very hard mentally to adjust to this 'new normal'. I do find it a comfort that we're not alone.

Thanks for the article @Joeaj23 . It was really useful as apart from this thread I've not been able to find much about people who have very longstanding symptoms. Her tips about coping with it are useful too.

fedupofbed · 11/04/2020 12:49

I haven't had any noticeable loss of taste and smell @Quarantinequeen but I've on occasions had a very strange taste in my mouth. I'm never really sure if it's the virus or heartburn/ reflux.

mumlurker · 11/04/2020 12:52

no loss of sense of taste/smell here either.

It's strangely comforting to know that someone has been advised by a doctor that it's 'ok' for this to take so long to recover from. The physical symptoms are awful but feeling that you're not improving, or that any improvement is short lived, is so worrying and demoralising, especially as this isn't the narrative you normally read about in the press. Most of the doctors I've had contact with in the last few weeks have seemed confused by how long it's taking to recover - which hasn't exactly given me peace of mind. But I suppose as time goes on more people like us will crop up and they'll be able to give more (hopefully) reassuring advice.

onlinelinda · 11/04/2020 13:03

@fedupofbed I have that odd and slightly unpleasant taste too. I like your username, and I could happily adopt it some days.

Egghead68 · 11/04/2020 13:24

I can’t remember if I posted this yesterday but my respiratory consultant said if it does not get better in a week it is common for it to take “a very long time”. She didn’t seem to think this was unduly concerning - just one of the normal patterns of the illness.

Needsomegoodnews · 11/04/2020 13:27

Just found you all over here as I hadn’t posted on the ‘lungs’ thread for a few days as I was feeling so much better aside from a little shortness of breath on exertion (only slight exertion - stairs, walking around doing jobs etc). Today though it’s another slump - feeling breathlessness on resting (normal rate though) and temp back up to 37.6 despite being down below 37.2 most of the week. So disheartening and the worry hits me like a truck every time it’s gets worse again Sad
As ever, seeing that others have similar with random temp spikes and breathing issues reassures me - but so sorry you’re all suffering too!!

ChippedPotatoesLloyd · 11/04/2020 13:36

Agree about drs confusion - my experience too - but totally understandable given the lack of knowledge at this point. Symptom tracking now too following the tip off.
Day 40 something here and dipping again. Antibiotics definitely helped with the shoulder pain and chest pains but tightness and chest working hard feeling has returned. I guess this is just my new normal now - few days up then down again...and for context I have largely had mild symptoms throughout compared to others here...just can't shake it off. Really hoping to hear some good news stories of others overcoming this once and for all and wishing everyone a full recovery!

OneDayAtATime123 · 11/04/2020 14:13

@baroqueandblue
I took a histamine thinking it was allergies and I had the worst experience, with extreme fatigue and very rapid heart rate. It contained cetirizine.
If you have experience with this then ok, otherwise check with your GP first.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 11/04/2020 14:28

Well I just spoke to the clinician at 111. She said my talking sounded fine, even though I had to breathe through my mouth as I talked. But she said I sounded a long way off from needing oxygen from hospital, which is good if she's right.

She's passed me to my out of hours service who will contact me today which is reassuring.

It's worrying because I can do less today than I could yesterday and breathing seems harder. Will just keep resting as much as I can

baroqueandblue · 11/04/2020 14:29

@OneDayAtATime123 thanks for the warning, I'm sorry you had a distressing time with the antihistamine. Hope you're feeling more balanced now. I'm ok thanks, I've been taking cetirizine for donkeys years when needed, and it's usually good for my breathing but not having much impact today unfortunately. It does make you drowsy though, some people find that aspect of it overpowering.

Having posted earlier that my energy and pain levels were quite good, I spoke too soon Confused. Overall there's definitely improvement in my pain levels from even just a few days ago, but it fluctuates and my spine felt really sore at lunchtime. I'm back in bed, feeling breathless and stuffy, despite the windows being wide open and the air quite fresh. Going to nap again soon too, even though I've only been awake for about 3 hours. I need it today.

OneDayAtATime123 · 11/04/2020 15:09

@baroqueandblue
You might be correct. The drowsy nature of antihistamine was probably the reason I wobbled.

SchrodingersKitty · 11/04/2020 15:17

Useful warning about anithistamines - I might stop taking them for a few days.

I'm not sure I've posted on this thread, and it seems to have gone very fast in the last few days. I'm on day 32 now. I was coughing a lot two days ago - probably caused by masses of cleaning and use of bleach, but it calmed down a lot yesterday and I haven't coughed at all today. I've upped my steroid inhaler, which I only started using at half dose a few days ago, so that may be part of it. For now, I think (with massive crossed fingers, etc) I may be over it.

DH (probably secondary brain lymphoma) is on his third day of high dose steroids and is feeling quite a lot better. Headaches reducing and no repeat of confusion. Consultant was supposed to call us on Thursday but didn't, so we won't hear anything now until Tue at earliest. We are enjoying the respite of not waiting for the phone. DH is spending most of the time sitting in the garden writing his memoirs.

We are trying complicated shielding measures within the house - he's trying not to infect me with any germs from his hospital visits, and I'm trying to keep the house as clean as possible, and not touch surfaces he will touch, or at least clean them thoroughly. All a bit confusing, and he's finding it hard to manage. None of us are going out, so I'm hoping once we are 5 days from last hospital visit with no symptoms the main risk will be shopping coming into the house which I'm cleaning as thoroughly as I can.

Lightsabre · 11/04/2020 15:27

Try to hang on in there @Tangledyarn - you are having it worst than most but hopefully you're past the critical stage. Are you managing to eat and drink much? I'm finding that helps with the shakiness and weakness even if I have to force it down.

longshot · 11/04/2020 15:42

@eyebrowsofinstagram just to say I felt my breathing was very bad (for me) at points yesterday and that was on day 32, it was on a par with how I was maybe say 9-10. Anyway today if feels better, I don’t mean normal but it’s not concerning me as much. It’s basically very up and down.

ShastaBeast · 11/04/2020 15:44

I’m trying to catch up. We’re all A+ all had BCG including the kids - super mild symptoms if 8yr old has it and 10yr old is fine but cough and asthma wheeze despite not being asthmatic.

I was taking zinc and quercetin and have sent DH to his dad to deliver him some in case he gets ill. I want to post some to my parents too.

I had bad pains in my upper back again and they went round the front a bit yesterday. Slight burning feeling and heartburn is joining in still. I might call the GP and get stronger lansoprazole. I can walk pretty fast and scooter but not run, my lungs burnt a lot after a few mins of very gently jogging. My arms feel weak and ache a bit like having had the flu jab the previous day. They have gone slight numb, as has one of my legs, but I have nerve damage affecting that leg and suspect carpal tunnel in the hand.

Weird symptom but is anyone getting a bit of blood from the nose? I’m getting blood tinged mucus and have from the beginning. The lining of the inner nose is the same as the trachea and lungs so I guess the cells die and the protective lining is damaged. This is also the same lining in the digestive system, I’m not getting diarrhoea much but a bit of the opposite- it feels slower.

Right I’ll see if I can catch up now.

Tangledyarn · 11/04/2020 15:44

@Lightsabre ThankyouFlowers I have been struggling to eat enough as have just had no apetite atall for the whole time but have been much better the last few days as obviously its not going to help if not! Does anyone else find that if they eat more than a v small amount it triggers an episode of breathlessness..just feels like the food is taking up too much space that my lungs need? Very odd!

longshot · 11/04/2020 15:51

@ShastaBeast nice to hear you’re ok! Scooting and jogging I’m so far from that again!! Had a massive dip sadly but slightly improved this afternoon. What day are you? I think we are roughly the same? I’m Day 32 now

ShastaBeast · 11/04/2020 15:54

@Monty6 I had my period early too. Day 27 when normally it’s much longer due to polycystic ovaries. I’m folate deficient, found out recently, bit of a surprise so taking that plus b12 and d3 just in case. No fibromyalgia but chronic pain and tenderness all over.

OneDayAtATime123 · 11/04/2020 16:02

A little bit of exercise might be better
www.sciencealert.com/should-we-be-exercising-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic

SchrodingersKitty · 11/04/2020 16:03

I haven't lost smell or taste at all either.

ShastaBeast · 11/04/2020 16:04

@longshot day 31, four weeks exactly of chest symptoms and cough. Definitely don’t recommend any jogging but scooter and walking is ok. I’ve ordered a couple of scooters for the kids so we can go out together. Slowly build back fitness. They should do covid recovery exercise videos online. Or maybe we should try the Joe Wicks seniors version.

DH did a 20 min run ok but suffered after. I suspect the lining of the lungs etc needs to recover before we can get back to normal.

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/04/2020 16:10

Not once you've got it @OneDayAtATime123. Article clearly states that exercising when infected is associated with worse outcomes.

TheDrsWife46 · 11/04/2020 16:12

@Joeaj23 thankyou so much for that article I’ve saved it as I feel sending it out to people when i get the “arent you better yet?”
