What happens if someone travels unnecessarily

My dd, 20 wants desperately to live elsewhere for the duration. I am not sure if she could get where she wants to go by train atm, it's 400 miles away. And I don't know if she would get stopped and questioned.

I would argue it's too late for that and doesn't sound liek essential travel. She should 'stay at home, safe lives.....'

Why does she want to live somewhere else? Is she for example being abused by a partner where she is, ie does she need to move for her own safety or simply want to move somewhere more fun?

What if she already has the virus and spreads it to someone, a key worker on the train?

If she picks up the virus on a train, as she simply fancied living somewhere else? Would you say she deserved the nhs helped?

IF she was travelling after leaving an abusive parter for example, she’d be fine if the police were to stop her. If she’s travelling for jollies, hopefully she would be fined

Unless she needs to move for her own safety, she stays where she is. The country is on lockdown due to a crisis, when will people get it

Unless you are stopped by the police nothing would happen. I don't know how likely that is, ae they routinely checking train travellers?

In my daily walks I've seen the police once and never when I've been to the supermarket but I haven't been near a train station

Police will be stopping people now as it’s so close to Easter.

If she goes from a highly infected area to a rural unaffected area she will be contributing to the spread of it.

If she's going to a tourist location, she'll likely be sent back.
FB is flooded with police reports here about sending people back home cos they thought they'd visit the beach/ their caravan in Anglesey. Stopping loaded cars and vans on the bridge thankfully.

She's too late. Stay home.

It’s not only about her getting stopped though is it, that shouldn’t be the worry here.

The worry should be could she potentially infect someone, She could also potentially get infected and take a Nhs bed from someone that wasn’t an idiot and travel unnecessarily on public transport 400 fucking miles!

She isn’t the only person in the world, other people’s safety and health matters too.

The fact that you said unnecessarily in you op leads me to assume that she wouldn’t be escaping from an abusive relationship, this is simply a choice that she might be making.
In that case she may get fined if stopped.
She may become infected herself or infect a number of others. Who knows what roles those people might have and their reasons for travelling. They could be a hospital key worker, a member of school staff who is at work to enable other key workers to continue to carry out their roles, they could be going to work in a retail environment making sure that we have access to groceries......
Just deciding to live somewhere else 400 miles away and acting on that decision would be massively irrresponsible.

Why are you even contemplating it?
I assume you are, being as you are more concerned about her being stopped and questioned, instead of saying it’s causing arguments because you’ve told her - you know, as per gov instructions-that she must stay at home.

What happens is she could be fined

Just to be clear I'm absolutely against her going, I posted as I wanted to give her accurate information about the current rules. It goes without saying that her age group are in a different information bubble and not taking the situation seriously.

My DH has been asked a few times why he is on a train, so they are asking, not very often though. He is a train driver so has a valid reason.

I am in a similar position, 19 year old DS wants to go to his girlfriends, and the girlfriends mother has offered to come and pick him up. His brother is extremely vulnerable so we have said that if he goes he may not be able to come back for some time. It is irresponsible of him and I am not happy but I can't physically stop him. So far everything I am saying is falling on deaf ears.

Police are stopping people and making them turn round and go back if they deem the journey non essential. I know a few people who have been stopped and quizzed.

The train station I was at today (I’m a key worker travelling home) they can send you back.

Where she is going tell her to look at cases there are there & there are about 12 ITU beds currently, according to press we will be 8000 ventilators short for the peak, is it really worth it?

She just has to wait a few short weeks past the peak. We’re nearly there.

Sweeping statement there, my late teen child and friends are very much aware of the situation and obeying the rules. It’s my older DN and DS that are doing whatever they like. But I wouldnt state that all late 20’s and early 50’s are not taking the situation seriously.

Please tell us you've missed some crucial bit of information from your post, even the dimmest bobby must be able to identify one end of the train from another.

My adult son who had returned to live with us due to covid-19 has just left to go and share a flat with a friend. Not ideal but I think people are allowed to move house. It didn’t involve any train travel as it was local so I dropped him off. He’s been told he’ll have to self isolate if he wants to come back. I think it’s really hard for young people tbh. Where is she planning on going?
