France has banned daytime outdoor exercise from tomorrow with fines equivalent to £120 for non-compliance. 6 months in prison if you continue to disobey the rule.

While I think it might be counter productive to restructure hours for exercise (as I, and other pps mentioned, those still wishing to exercise will all be out within a smaller timeframe) i can see that a blanket ban would be easier to enforce than having for example limits on how many days/wk you could go out, and easier than the time and distance limitations (I assume they are also still in force?)
But I get the idea there is a much heavier police presence than here....
...although our local police station closed a few years ago but DH went for a short walk round the block around 9pm last night and said he saw quite a few police cars.

Inkpaperstars · 07/04/2020 14:37

I live extremely close to a big park but haven't been in it for well over a month because I know if it starts to look too full they will close it. The trouble is city parks start to look problematic even if people are 2 m apart because they are just so busy.

ukgift2016 · 07/04/2020 14:37

Ridiculous

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 14:37

ilovecakeandwine
*You can still go out for a walk
no, you really can't.
Yes you can it's just jogging .

please show us where, on the new self-certified form, you can tick to justify your "walk" now jogging is banned.

No, you cannot just "go for a walk." Why the need to make stuff up?

ilovecakeandwine · 07/04/2020 14:38

Forgive me my french is not that great but doesn't that just mention joggers ? @MickeyMouae199

Kordelia · 07/04/2020 14:40

Please get the inaccurate title changed, otherwise we'll have hundreds of posts from those who feel able to express an opinion having only read the heading.

JellyfishandShells · 07/04/2020 14:40

This is a but naughty... but I feel that most of the people who want us to do this here are people who spend a lot of their normal life before this crisis indoors on the internet and are quite glad other people are being forced to have a miserable time too.
If you’re a normal, healthy, active person who usually sees friends, exercises, goes to work etc this is just the most dire idea. And as discussed in many, many other threads has more lots of negative consequences. Which is why most intelligent people within the government, in the opposition and in scientific, social care & medical communities are trying to avoid it at (almost) all costs

Not at all naughty, though you will get a telling off from the sofa slug police

Lordfrontpaw · 07/04/2020 14:40

So the streets will just be more busy during the 'oiu oui' hours?

Dozer · 07/04/2020 14:41

God, poor Parisians, and law enforcement.

“most people won't 'just kill themselves or each other”: SOME will (in addition to those who sadly would have done so anyway).

I read this article where did you get your info from @MamaBearOnLockdown ?
I'm not making anything up at all I'm reading the news article . If it's wrong complain to them Hmm

SarahTancredi · 07/04/2020 14:43

I hope that's not the plan... It would involve a very high level of collateral damage

lock down has already caused a suicide in the UK and women have been killed. People have died alone Collateral damage.

In the event of needing a ventilator disabled adults and children are the collateral damage.

In the name of keeping up appearances everyone infected politicians shook hands with or attended hospital opening with were collateral damage

All those teachers and nurses and anyone else not provided with ppe are collateral damage.

And if it when the restrictions are lifted those first people outside are flying to be collateral damage.

There is nothing that has been done or will be done where people haven't become or will become collateral damage.

I dont think this will be any different sadly.

Sounsociable · 07/04/2020 14:43

I think the full extent of how other countries coped with lockdown, the virus and the economy may not be fully understood for several years if at all depending on how creative some countries are with details

The effects of cv-19, its spread and how it was managed, hospital admissions, deaths, as well as deaths from other illnesses where not diagnosed ,treatment was delayed, suicides, DV and the rise in mental health issues either as a direct result of cv-19, or from the fallout (redundancies, businesses downturn, lockdown etc).
I saw on tv (bbc news) low paid Italian workers who had no income being delivered food from bakeries etc as they were literally down to their last few euros and couldn't afford to feed their children.

Jaxhog · 07/04/2020 14:46

If we don't do this too, it will be a nightmare over the Easter weekend. I can see thousands hitting the beach if it's sunny.

MickeyMouae199 · 07/04/2020 14:47

@ilovecakeandwine Maybe it's possible to tick the individual physical activity box on the form but walk and get away with it... But I'm not convinced...

It would leave a massive loophole, with people jogging but stopping and walking as soon as they saw any signs of police in the distance........

Igneococcus · 07/04/2020 14:48

Are they providing vit D to kids if this is prolonged?
No need. It’s light well before 10am. Plenty of time to get out in the daylight.

The sun needs to be higher than 50 degrees to make Vit D, just daylight is not enough.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 07/04/2020 14:49

Sorry everybody if I, inadvertently, misled you. I have asked MNHQ to change the title to 'Paris' rather than France.

So much misinformation:

It's just Paris.

It's light from before 7am until well after 8pm here TODAY. And will keep getting lighter.

It's all exercise that is banned - there is one line to tick for "individual exercise" - so you can't go for a walk between 10am and 7pm. But the ban is coming in because there are too many joggers (hence the confusion I think).

All parks are closed anyway. And several main axes of the woods are closed too. People are exercising in the street. Cycling has been banned since the beginning.

This morning I even got told not to run on the cycle paths by the river.

I go running at 7am usually. There is hardly anyone around. This will not make there be crowds and crowds of people.

We have to stay within 1km of where we live - this has been the rule for weeks now.

All French DC are prescribed 2 courses of vitamin D every winter. My DC will be out before 10am and if necessary after 7pm. And I'm making them stand at the window to get sunlight.

daisypond · 07/04/2020 14:54

Oh, interesting. I didn’t know that.

AprilFloundering · 07/04/2020 14:54

I think London should have done this 2 weeks ago. And everyone flying in from anywhere straight into 2 week quarantine. Think a lot of the spread would have been stopped in its tracks.

canyon2000 · 07/04/2020 14:55

@TempsPerdu I read this today which I totally agreed with!
Most worrying is how much our self-appointed sheriffs seem to be enjoying themselves. In their righteous zeal, they embody HL Mencken's definition of puritanism: "The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy."

MickeyMouae199 · 07/04/2020 14:55

@CroissantsAtDawn Thank you for clearing things up :-)

Rosehip10 · 07/04/2020 14:56

Good. Hope this comes to the UK ASAP. London packed with groups of cyclists and joggers.

CroissantsAtDawn · 07/04/2020 14:57

On the plus side, Macron has said adults with autism can go out more than other people can - as long as they respect social distancing etc.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/04/2020 14:57

Yes - travellers are still arriving in London - they must be short-leasing as the hotels are closed.

Astrabees · 07/04/2020 14:58

The libidinous may end up exercising under hedges etc. under cover of darkness, Paris could turn into one giant dogging site, just saying. I feel as if we are in one giant pressure cooker and the id is going to explode.
