France has banned daytime outdoor exercise from tomorrow with fines equivalent to £120 for non-compliance. 6 months in prison if you continue to disobey the rule.

People will not tolerate that level of misery and I don’t blame them

I think that's the plan.

There appears to be no end to this. The virus isnt only gonna still be there it's getting worse. Now killing even healthy people.

If governments lift the restrictions then people will obviously die. The only alternative is to increase rules so much to the point that the public everywhere rebel en masse.

This way we can be blamed and not them.

TempsPerdu · 07/04/2020 14:10

Thedogshow Agree completely. So many bitter people on here who seem hellbent on making everyone else’s lives as miserable and limited as theirs. Also a lot of very thinly-veiled London bashing.

Exercise is low risk and imo vital for preventing a whole host of other health conditions that will cause long term issues beyond this crisis. Banning it will store up massive issues for the future.

Andromache77 · 07/04/2020 14:11

Of course you can still go food shopping or to the doctor's, or to take care of elderly or disabled relatives (aside from those working on essential services) but exercise is banned and on the whole people comply.

jamaisjedors · 07/04/2020 14:13

It's low-risk but in a city like Paris you can't avoid other people when you are jogging - AFAIK the parks are closed anyway.

The risk is not from jogging, it's from lots of people being out on the streets at the same time.

Again, you can walk, just not jog, and you can go at other times when the streets are quieter.

Abraid2 · 07/04/2020 14:14

It won't be dark. Daylight hours in Paris are currently 7.15am--8.30pm.

So there's time in the morning or evening when it's still light.

renouncefifty · 07/04/2020 14:18

Absolutely ludicrous ! If cities or various areas are known hotspots then administrate those areas separately.

Many areas of this country are quiet and people move around with respect.

I don't see why we should have to face the same restrictions because idiots in London or Birmingham can't behave themselves.

Collective punishment is against the Geneva convention.

SquishySquirmy · 07/04/2020 14:19

SarahTancredi I hope that's not the plan... It would involve a very high level of collateral damage!

Srslydontgiveacrap · 07/04/2020 14:20

Ridiculous! This is taking things waaay too far.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/04/2020 14:21

I'm glad we are not in a country which seems to do daft things- will surely just mean they are all running at once Confused meaning they will be closer together.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2020 14:21

What about dogs walking? That’s a long time for a dog in an apartment not to be able to pee!

MissTheodore · 07/04/2020 14:22

For those who don’t like Sun and can read French: www.liberation.fr/france/2020/04/07/confinement-le-jogging-bientot-interdit-a-paris-entre-10-et-19-heures_1784439

PinkMonkeyBird · 07/04/2020 14:23

Oh great...a link to The Scum! Thanks for that. Also the title is misleading. It is Paris which has reduced exercise limits. People can still exercise, it isn't a blanket ban.

TiredofSM · 07/04/2020 14:23

I hope they do it here. I’m in London but hope it’s nationwide.
The quicker they get on top of the situation the quicker we go back to normal. Short term pain, long term gain.

MickeyMouae199 · 07/04/2020 14:24

I'm in France - albeit not Paris - and the gouvernement has been threatening tougher localized measures like these for a while.

For those wondering about how the measures are enforced : the police and the military have more power here and I get the impression that they are generally treated with so much more respect than in the UK...

Also, these measures are generally being well received by the general public. Some areas in Paris were overcrowded this week-end which is bound to contribute to spreading the virus and overall, people in France understand this. It may be unpleasant for a few weeks, but it seems to be accepted that the individual "sacrifices" are worth it in order to save lives and help hospital staff who really have it tough at the moment.

ilovecakeandwine · 07/04/2020 14:24

It's just in Paris its joggers/runners only not dog walkers or people going for a walk which is fair enough.
If I go for a jog it's usually early when it's quiet.
You can't ban exercise altogether there has to be a compromise. Going for a walk round the block but have to do dodge joggers must be problematic and vice versa in busy cities , Some places are not .
I've just gone for a walk with my dc and it's a lovely day but hardly anyone about and if we saw anyone would cross the road . I don't live in a busy city so I suppose it would be different there .

vanillandhoney · 07/04/2020 14:24

The entire title is wrong!

All they've done is ban jogging during the day in Paris. You can still go out for a walk Hmm

Quarantimespringclean · 07/04/2020 14:25

@TempsPerdu. You are quite right that banning exercise would be counter productive - which presumably is why the Parisian authorities haven’t done that. Tomorrow it will be daylight in Paris from approx 6.30am to about 9.00pm. That means people who want to exercise outdoors will have about over 5 hours available to them.

Even if people were temporarily stopped from exercising outdoors it doesn’t condemn them to a sedentary life. I‘m only going outdoors when essential but I can still walk or jog on the spot in the house and did in excess of 33 miles that way last week. I aim to beat that this week. I’m also doing online Pilates and yoga.

I know none of this is as good as ‘proper’ running or exercise but it still lifts my spirits. These restrictions aren’t a punishment but an attempt to keep us as safe as possible.

MickeyMouae199 · 07/04/2020 14:25

@vanillandhoney Going out for a walk for the sake of walking count in the exercise category and is thus banned during the day too...

alloutoffucks · 07/04/2020 14:25

So its only jogging? Good idea. Some joggers and cyclists are ignoring social distancing so they can carry on at the same pace.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2020 14:25

Absolutely ludicrous ! If cities or various areas are known hotspots then administrate those areas separately.

You did read more than the title and realise this is just Paris not the whole of France?

MamaBearOnLockdown · 07/04/2020 14:26

You can still go out for a walk
no, you really can't.

And this kind of attitude is exactly the reason why the lockdown is getting stricter. We are getting there, people are just as bad in the UK.
It's not people with gardens and bigger houses who will suffer the most.

ilovecakeandwine · 07/04/2020 14:27

You can still go out for a walk
no, you really can't.

Yes you can it's just jogging .

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2020 14:28

Thanks for the link to Libé. It doesn’t tell us any more than the sun. And confirmation it’s just joggers...

MickeyMouae199 · 07/04/2020 14:29

No it really is not just "jogging". It's any individual physical activity - which "just going for a walk" counts as on the form that we have to fill in to go out.

sofato5miles · 07/04/2020 14:33

How do you think Italians and the Spanish have coped🙄

Well, they did...
