Cancel summer holiday - Cornwall

There has been a few threads recently discussing cancelling holidays abroad this summer, what are everyone’s thoughts on their UK based holidays?

I have a holiday planned with a B&B to Cornwall at the end of July, I have not heard from the owners that they are cancelling their bookings.

Has anyone had their summer breaks cancelled?

Is there anyone here from Cornwall that knows any updates regarding letting the tourists back this summer? - I know things are all based in government guidelines and how long lock down and restrictions are going on for, just interested in the locals thoughts?

I think it's too early to know what's going to happen.

We have a Cornwall holiday booked for August but I am prepared for the fact we might not be going.

Don't know about Cornwall but DH & DD had their holiday in Guernsey cancelled. As we're in an open ended lockdown right now I would assume all holidays are not possible or safe until told otherwise.

I thnk it's too early to say - we have a holiday in Spain booked for the first two weeks of August and have to pay the villa deposit at the end of June - we're hanging fire at the moment because we just don't know.....we were supposed to go to Cornwall this week, and at the moment the agency are cancelling up to the end of May. Perhaps just hold off and see.

(My parents are in the West Country and are livid that Londoners with a second home in the village arrived 10 days ago, with CV and are now in hospital locally....so don't expect a warm reception if there is still any risk at all!)

We have a holiday booked in Cornwall for September. We’re hoping to go but prepared that we may not, although I’m not looking forward to the argument with the bastards at Sykes holidays!

I've cancelled all holidays that we'd booked. I can't see how anyone can still conceivably still think they will be able to holiday anywhere this year! Madness, we have to just stop and deal with this terrible situation.

In fact this is giving me the rage this morning stuck in my 12 week vulnerable lockdown not being able to work in my now heroine key worker status job because selfish fuckers are waltzing around Cornwall.

I live in Devon and we are not welcoming to visitors at the moment. Be aware that there are only 4 hospitals in Devon and Cornwall - Truro, Plymouth, Exeter and Barnstaple - so we don't need loads more people ill down here taking up valuable local resources.

If it's safe by summer I imagine Cornwall
And Devon will be utterly desperate for visitors to boost the local economy.

I've got a holiday booked for November there, I'm really hoping it goes ahead.

Way too soon to know for sure-I’m keeping my booking for the end of July. It’ll either get moved nearer the time or go ahead. It’s helping my mental health to have things to look forward to at the moment.

We’ve got a self catering holiday booked in Cornwall at the beginning of August. I’m highly doubtful that we’ll be able to go. We’re not cancelling though - I’ll leave that up to the holiday park owners.

My holiday in France was cancelled. So I've booked a back up in Cornwall. Fingers crossed that won't get cancelled either!

We are going hopefully on the 10th of July. Still planning on going hopefully if we are out of lock down. I don’t care if we sit on an empty beach for the week but I think most people will need a break after this!

I've booked a week in Cornwall for October half term. The owner seemed delighted! I assume they want the business.
However if the advise is not to go of course we won't.

We are due to go to Cornwall in August. Assuming we won’t be going but still paying until we know or we won’t get our money back.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - looks like Sykes Cottages has amended their policy after the bad press they received a few days ago:

2. I am due to travel on or after 5th June 2020 what happens if government-imposed travel restrictions are extended?

If government-imposed travel restrictions are extended and you must amend your holiday date, we will waive our usual amendment fees.

They won’t refund though, they’ll only allow you to reschedule which we’ve grudgingly done. This is why I won’t be cancelling my Cornwall holiday until the last minute as I want to try and get a refund. This was already moved from May, with another week moved to next May, so it’ll be interesting to see what they say. This is the first and last time I’ll be booking with them!

I think it's too early to know about UK holidays in the summer.

I had a week booked in Scotland for the end of May and have postponed it to the beginning of September. It may or may not happen but I am reasonably hopeful as we can just drive there.

Sad to hear about the pp's trip to Guernsey, I was actually hoping there might be some chance of a trip there or to Jersey later in the year.

That is utter nonsense. There's Torbay and Newton Abbot hospitals for a start (though NA only has minor injuries). And Cornwall has more than one hospital too. Anyway the OP wasn't talking about now, s/he was talking about the summer.

We've got a cottage on the Isle of Wight booked at the start of the school summer holidays. We're assuming we're not going, but waiting until our balance is due (May) before we decide how to manage that - forfeit our deposit / rebook / get refunded / anything else.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - we booked a holiday with Holiday Cottages for Easter and they have the same policy. We can rebook for free over the next 18 months.

I reckon if people all cancel holidays and get their money back, several holiday companies will go bust as well.
