"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

In Cyprus if want to go outside to exercise you have to text a govt number. You should only go outside once you've had a text back confirming it's ok.

IcelandicOrigin · 05/04/2020 18:14

Tbh, I’m not angry with those “rule-flouters” (gosh how dare they go outside!), so much as with the British public who are quite agreeable to swallowing this dictatorial shit from our government

Random18 · 05/04/2020 18:15

Anyone else hope it's raining next weekend?

I really really don't want the rules to change as I think the impact will be devastating to so many people.

But then you see the selfish pricks who say it's not the law and they can do what they want - and I just can't believe the selfishness of it

To me social responsibility tops it all. I don't do what I am told because matt Hancock or boris Johnson have told me too.

I do what I'm told to try and help the NHS and save lives.

It's only a small thing but it's the one thing I can do.

ZombieFan · 05/04/2020 18:15

orangejuicer Yes I meant to say walking, running, cycling. If you are not that strict then you have what we currently have now. A voluntary system which some people are abusing. So if we need a stronger clamp down its a step before banning it altogether.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/04/2020 18:16

IcelandicOrigin

How do you propose the government deal with the pandemic then?

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 18:17

Tbh, I’m not angry with those “rule-flouters” (gosh how dare they go outside!), so much as with the British public who are quite agreeable to swallowing this dictatorial shit from our government

So what would you rather happened?

DarnedSocks · 05/04/2020 18:19

It's disturbing isn't it @PotholeParadise. The way people throw the word nazi around clearly with no understanding of what it really means. Ironically some of the attitudes towards lockdown with moans about staying in and why should I because "it's only the elderly and sick" who're at risk is more intune with nazi views. The nazis believed disabled and ill people's lives had no value.

ZombieFan · 05/04/2020 18:20

Yes, the public are awful for agreeing to save lives 🤐

yearinyearout · 05/04/2020 18:20

It's not people going out for a walk more than once, or for two hours that's causing the problem (there's no actual time limit been imposed in the uk) It's people sitting around in parks sunbathing, having picnics, meeting up with groups, or driving miles to get to a crowded beauty spot.

PotholeParadise · 05/04/2020 18:25

DarnedSocks Yeah, I can't see them sending out texts to a sub-group of vulnerable people to stay inside for 12 weeks, or arranging benefit claims or food parcels for our most vulnerable.

mooboy · 05/04/2020 18:26

Here's the stupid shit that goes on. Someone has just posted on our facebook group - "Congratulations town for staying away from the park - we are doing a good job of listening to the rules this weekend" with pic of empty park - how the fuck did she know the park was empty? - she was bloody there - policing the rest of us while doing the shit herself.

I said exactly this on a thread this morning, literally as the thread got deleted for referencing Nazis in the title

*I don't do what I am told because matt Hancock or boris Johnson have told me too.

I'm trying not to laugh at the irony of this statement.

They've done such a bang up job of managing you that you actually think its your own idea.

mummmy2017 · 05/04/2020 18:37

Do you not long to go for a drive?
To go and see somewhere picturesque.
I do.
But I am willing to wait, to do this for a few weeks, so I can have my summer.

Random18 · 05/04/2020 18:40

DCO of course its not my idea. Where did I say that.

You may laugh, that's your choice.

For some reason I don't think this is a laughing matter.

LittleRen · 05/04/2020 18:59

I think it will be before Easter weekend - People will be off work, seeing family by ‘exercise’. Probably will be when Bo Jo is well enough to speak not via video link.

This was on another thread, interesting.

Thread by an Actuary, with UK statistics:
"There’s been a bit of an unpleasant and inaccurate narrative over recent days that the majority of COVID-19 deaths were people who were “at death’s door” in any case. That they died “with” rather than “of” the disease. I want to address that. "
mobile.twitter.com/ActuaryByDay/status/1246866119597621248

TLDR version: he says that it's a "false narrative that these people would have died soon anyway".

Dowser · 05/04/2020 20:01

We’ve just come back from an hours walk around the marina. It’s a fairly high density area , a lot of apartments overlooking the sea etc
In the full hour I bet we only passed about 20 well spaced out people and very few cars.
People are obeying the guidelines
There’s no need for full lock down .

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 20:02

@MarshaBradyo

...that is just a random man's opinion on a bunch of figures from a random non-profit organisation.

We have crossed swords on this point before, but you need to analyse your source far more critically if you want your point to carry weight.

With enough digging, you can find a tweet that supports more or less any opinion.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 20:04

Meh I found it interesting. I’ll keep reading stuff to form an opinion. But as I said I’ll take reasonable discussion first.

RingtheBells · 05/04/2020 20:10

The weather forecast for Easter looked a bit wet and chilly on the Countryfile forecast, the nice weather is before Easter

Polly02 · 05/04/2020 20:37

That made me laugh IcelandicOrigin.

I agree.

Polly02 · 05/04/2020 20:41

And I’ve been out walking these 2 weeks every day and live in London.

People are following the rules. 99% are trying very hard.

We are being spun a tale that large amounts of people are flouting the rules and need to ask ourselves why.

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 21:16

Yes we are Polly. It's interesting that those posting from Spain and Italy seem to think that the UK are all running around snogging the neighbours and having BBQs Hmm
Whereas everyone I have spoken to a cross the UK, in very diverse areas have told me that most everyone in their area is obeying the rules (the actual rules not the MN rules).
It's almost as if the media is portraying something that's not quite true.
