People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

Lois if bread and milk aren’t t essential, what is?

And how do I store more in my studio flat?

And how do people pay for lots of groceries to keep going for days?

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 17:40

The military, fully armed with automatic rifles, should be deployed to every town to keep everyone at home by force. Armed checkpoints on every road into every town, on every motorway slip road. So on and so on. Only trucks and essential services should be on the roads.
Now you are joking right ? If not you seriously need help , or you have been watching too many films.
I actually think 1 of 2 people on here hope that a new law is passed that anyone stepping over their front door without permission will be shot or are you actually trying to wind us up ? .
Give your head a wobble Hmm

larrygrylls · 04/04/2020 17:41

We don’t need a further lockdown as it looks like the current lockdown is working even better than expected.

The big things are:

2m distancing
No schools
No restaurants or bars

Clearly people should be keeping themselves to themselves and using common sense. But if you like foie gras and Lindt chocolate and it is for sale in your supermarket, it is no ‘riskier’ than bread or milk and HELPS the economy. A lot of the ‘necessities only’ crowd are driven by jealousy.

If we just keep up what we are doing now, the case count will reduce. Today the new cases is less than yesterday and, hopefully, in terms of new cases, we will have peaked.

We are currently policed by ‘consent’ and, short of a plague like threat, I, for one, would prefer to keep it Mathis way.

KaptenKrusty · 04/04/2020 17:42

Fucking hell all these people wanting to live in a police state! Be careful what you wish for!

It’s all fine at the moment - some people are obviously not following the rules - but most are! I’m not gonna starry freezing fucking milk either il pop out and grab some as an when I need it! By all means go into “full lockdown” yourself and leave the rest of us to it! So many busy bodies on here spying on their neighbours - it’s actually mental.

Becca19962014 · 04/04/2020 17:43

To shield myself. (Sorry hit post by accident)

In that letter it states public health Wales will inform my pharmacy and their volunteers to deliver my meds. And pass my details and vunlnerabilities onto the local volunteers.

One of my abusers is one of these volunteers as he wasn't charged.

I'm terrfied.

Public health Wales didn't give a shit, told me it was necessary and they're all checked so it's fine.

I don't want random people knowing I'm on my own, seriously ill and vulnerable. I should have the right to control that information.

I don't have a freezer., I've a tiny fridge and one cuboard for food, no other room at all as I've only one room and my waste hasn't been collected in weeks as someone stole my bin.

I've been reported to the police for flouting rules. I go out once. For an hour maximum, it's necessary and obey distancing rules - they were fine about it.

My mental health wouldn't cope being in for weeks in a single stinking room given mental health team discharged me when they closed down dace to face appointments and GP is no longer available to me due to withholding their number (they can unblock it but won't).

GabsAlot · 04/04/2020 17:43

Toatal lockdown

id like one trip to a supermarket a week-only exerices is allowed within a certain area near your house and only workers or helping vulnerable allowed
and all shops closed except food including b and q the range and argos

thats it

Gwenhwyfar · 04/04/2020 17:44

"it looks like the current lockdown is working even better than expected."

Have you got the stats to show that? I'm looking for some good news.

GabsAlot · 04/04/2020 17:45

yeah krusty its mental ok then

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 04/04/2020 17:46

I've found myself out driving far more than normal because I've had to change my business model and start doing free delivery of my goods (food). Technically I'm now a key worker. My car is, however, just a regular hatchback so people would have no idea what I'm actually doing when out.

Some people really do seem to be enjoying the competitive martyrdom. Someone complained on a local Facebook group that people were walking and cycling in the park Hmm I replied that if they were in household groups only it's allowed. I was told that just because it's allowed it doesn't mean it's acceptable Confused A few minutes later another person piped up that if she and her nine (9!!!) children weren't leaving the house then no one could possibly have any excuse.

Becca19962014 · 04/04/2020 17:46

B&Q here and Argos are already closed as non essential, including those in other shops e.g, Argos in sainsbury in some areas

All we have open is pharmacies and food shops, we don't have supermarkets, most of the food hoarded still hasn't hit our shops again.

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 17:46

Who has said that Larry? It would of course be wonderful if it were the case.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/04/2020 17:47

"id like one trip to a supermarket a week-only"

I can't carry a week's worth! Can't use a taxi or public transport - although both are running so I suppose I'd be forced to do that under your rules.

Stefoscope · 04/04/2020 17:48

'Even in China people were not left to starve and had to stay locked in for 2 months'. This. China have an experimental system in place where you have an app downloaded to your phone which tracks your movements and you're allocated a colour code red, green or yellow depending on the perceived risk you pose. It's all very Black Mirror, but they didn't lock everyone away for a full 2 months straight. And no the virus has not been eradicated in Wuhan, they are trying to balance keeping the virus from spreading and not totally tanking the economy.

Tootletum · 04/04/2020 17:49

I agree with you OP but sadly reason and rationality are in short supply. The rules are fine, I've seen nobody not complying. And they are manageable for a long time, which is the while point. I don't see the more Draconian rules in Italy and France helping them much. It only needs the majority to follow the rules for the overall R0 to go below zero, so really no point getting worked up about a couple of dickheads.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 17:50

Wuhan has not eradicated the virus. What has happened is that they haven't seen new cases of local transmission for a bit. They seem (hopefully, if the data is reliable, which is not a given when the Chinese government is known to have fudged data before) to have brought their outbreak under control.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 04/04/2020 17:50

@FedUpOfThis2020 you could be speaking some truth there. If my DH loses his job that’s us stuffed, masses of debt coming our way etc, we need to see the bigger picture as well as just what’s happening in the here and now.

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 17:50

@GabsAlot How does that work for people that don't drive? Could you carry a weeks worth of shopping? I certainly couldn't.

What about those who have to live day to day and can't afford to do a weekly shop?
Or are they irrelevant because it doesn't effect you?

Thankfully, it's not just about what you want.

LilacTree1 · 04/04/2020 17:51

Avocados “A few minutes later another person piped up that if she and her nine (9!!!) children weren't leaving the house then no one could possibly have any excuse.”

I’d be telling her she and her partner having 9 children is the reason why we live in an overpopulated hell hole and that’s why nature is clearing us out. They bear more blame than many others.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 17:51

Also, the lockdown in China did not involve preventing people from purchasing staple foods (in that part of China, rice, bread and potatoes would be British equivalents), because that would be daft.

Eckhart · 04/04/2020 17:53

@LoisLittsLover Either tell us what the list of essential items actually is, or stop judging for other people what is and isn't essential.

OP, the lockdown we have is fine, it just needs better enforcement. Stricter rules will further impound those who obey rules, only. The idiots breaking the current lockdown rules will continue to break more stringent ones.

Stefoscope · 04/04/2020 17:54

That's true Prodigal. As far as I know they weren't policing what people were buying, but the traffic light system told them whether they could shop in a larger market or had to stay local and buy from the nearest shop.

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 17:55

id like one trip to a supermarket a week-only exerices is allowed within a certain area near your house and only workers or helping
So what if you go and forget something or they have run out , have you got to wait a whole week to get it ?
Some people don't drive so unable to get a weeks shopping.
Some people go once a fortnight .
Who's going to police these weekly shopping trips and exercise?
Absolutely bat shit !!
Those that have seen people in groups etc those rules are not going to make a jot of a difference.

Butchyrestingface · 04/04/2020 17:56

Say hello to Chicken Licken, the newest and fluffiest non-essential addition to my family wot I bot when out shopping for other 'non essentials' such as bread, milk, cheese... caviar.

People demanding a full lock down
MrsSnitchnose · 04/04/2020 17:57

Milk isn't essential anymore. Absolutely marvellous. So I can sit here, not allowed to go to work, not allowed to see my friends nor go anywhere near my Mum and now I can't even have a fucking cup of tea either?!

Fucks sake, just when I thought people couldn't get any more batshit

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 17:58

The military, fully armed with automatic rifles, should be deployed to every town to keep everyone at home by force. Armed checkpoints on every road into every town, on every motorway slip road. So on and so on. Only trucks and essential services should be on the roads.

Do you notice that none of the people suggesting this have ever lived in a country where it's normal to see armed soldiers out on the streets? There is a reason for that.
