People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

@IcedPurple it's simple really. You have one cube in a coffe/tea or you keep the plastic bottles and when defrosted put it back in the bottle as you would normal milk.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 17:27

All of our neighbours have been out in their cars every day, always coming back with a small shopping bag. Some (I'm looking at the covidiot opposite) go out several times per day for just 1 or 2 items.

If they were ever to remake 'Rear Window' you could be the star, spending all day every day spying on your neighbours' shopping bags.

happinessischocolate · 04/04/2020 17:27

It's not a matter of, if we all get locked in for a few weeks that's the end of it and back to normal!

Exactly, I've seen some many posts on Facebook groups were people say what they're going to do as soon as lock down is over:

Go to the pub
Go hug my mum
Go to the beach
Go shopping

They don't seem to realise that Boris isn't going to one day go "as of tomorrow everything is open again" it's going to have to be gradual, really gradual, I don't think the pubs will be open till late August or September when the kids go back to school

Krazynights34 · 04/04/2020 17:27

Since when did the government say what food or drink items are essential?
The “rules” clearly say not to go out unless it is essential (for the 4 reasons) - not that what you buy or where you cough or which shop you go to has to be essential.
It’s quite obvious that the people watchers cannot know whether other people have already had the virus, and, absent any other evidence could well be immune from further infection and not contagious.
It’s not the common man’s job to police the country thankfully.
I take my (disabled) DD and dogs out for a walk every day (with my DH) because it is one of the ESSENTIAL four reasons to go out.
And next time my DH goes to the shop he’ll be buying me very essential beer.

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 17:28

So true about child abuse.

How sad for the children who probably wolfed down their school hot meal because at home there was nothing. It's really sad. So many children will be suffering and anxious. Trapped with parents who don't parent. Druggies and alcoholics etc. It's a reality and it's happening. School would of been their safety.

I also agree at what point is the damage worse than the disease. Testing in this country is crap and they know it! It's a mess.

I hope by June we are getting back to some normality. I honestly think the misery and health issues this will cause on top of the damage to the economy will be far worse in the end.

I don't want anyone to die so we need to keep going. But a full lock down is terrifying. I stick to my opinion that fines should be given out to people in groups. They should be told by the police they are banned from going for walks if they get caught. They can still shop. But that should be it. We've got to look after everyone in this.

Misery olympics 🤣🤣🤣 some people are loving this rnt they .

cassgate · 04/04/2020 17:29

You can freeze milk. We get through about 20 pints a week. I shop once a week. I would normally buy the 2 pint milks but because of the max 3 rule at Tesco have had to switch to 3 - 6 pint ones instead. Teenagers both drink milk as well as 4 breakfasts and copious tea drinking we get through it. The 6 pint ones take longer to defrost but it is ok.

It's not really 'simple' to defrost an ice cube of milk every time you feel like a cuppa.

Justincasecakehappens · 04/04/2020 17:29

If YOU follow the rules, why would a full lockdown bother you?

Even in countries on lockdown one adult is still allowed to go shopping for ESSENTIALS, people are allowed to exercise and walk their dogs.

Even in China people were not left to starve and had to stay locked in for 2 months Hmm

The only people moaning about a full lockdown as currently exists in some European countries are the ones who don't want to follow the rules. If you are, it will make absolutely no difference to you.

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 17:30

@cassgate my freezer is tiny and I can't afford to buy one right now that's bigger. I can't freeze my milk!

Lol exactly this. These points make me think of Michael Paine the nosy neighbour in the fast show. Get a hobby or read a book and stop spying on your neighbours fgs

twinkle2306 · 04/04/2020 17:31

@IcedPurple 🙄🙄 most people know how
Many they normally have a day. Defrost that many overnight in the milk bottle (ice cubes fit through the hole) and there you go.

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 17:32

I think those petitioning for a total lockdown are crazy.
They are literally saying to the government 'please control my life and tell me what/what not to do!'
Having read through the pages upon pages of corona legislation that was passed it feels a bit dystopian.

The extent to which we're locked in now is enough.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 17:32

I love the outrage about how the neighours 'go out several times per day for just 1 or 2 items.' Do the poster's binoculars come equipped with xray vision to see inside their shopping bags?

MollyButton · 04/04/2020 17:32

In my area most people are obeying the lockdown. The traffic levels are like a Christmas day at most (nationally they are like 1955).
Bread and Milk are considered essential for most people - even in countries where they have a proper lockdown.
Everyone staying indoors might be okay for a couple of weeks but is unsustainable for mental health for months. Nevermind the facts that a lot/most people in the UK are vitamin D deficient over winter, and this is the time of year we naturally start to replenish our vitamin D levels.
Or that without exercise our Lung function will deteriorate, and our obesity rates are likely to increase. Exercise will help with both of these.

The lower our vitamin D levels, the worse our obesity and the worse our general fitness especially lung capacity - then the worse we will be able to naturally resist this virus. Nevermind all the other health issues we will be causing for ourselves.

This will just cause more damage to the NHS. And possibly for decades if the long term consequences of the hunger time in the Netherlands after WWII are anything to go by.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/04/2020 17:34

Sounds to me like we need better (not necessarily stricter) enforcement of the lockdown we've got. Where I live teenagers are out in groups, but in other areas police are going after Easter eggs.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 17:34

I am guessing the ones that are moaning that their

Sil, mil, neighbour, neighbours aunt, colleague are all not acting in the rules have always been nosey. Always judging and curtain twitching.

Theres just an excuse to admit it and have people support it.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 04/04/2020 17:34

The military, fully armed with automatic rifles, should be deployed to every town to keep everyone at home by force. Armed checkpoints on every road into every town, on every motorway slip road. So on and so on. Only trucks and essential services should be on the roads.

Fucking hell. I'm done with this shit.

Not sure how anyone would be able to drive to do their weekly shop under those circs - we wouldn't be able to carry it home so would have to be out more often.

Also not sure where you'd find the troops. Or would they be recruiting the 'bread is a luxury' loons and pressing lethal weapons into their eager hands?

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 17:34

@IcedPurple 🙄🙄 most people know how

No thanks. I'm not going to plan in advance how many cups of coffee I might have just to save a few square inches in the fridge and gain a few smug points. Report me to the shopping basket Stasi if you like.

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 17:36

It's a bloody good job that you aren't in charge of decision-making.

How fucking ridiculous can you get.

Becca19962014 · 04/04/2020 17:36

Yesterday I got a letter telling me

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 17:38

The only reason I want the military outside is if they are going to entertain me with some dancing haha.

We dont need the army. We need the police to find the buggers who are out. To take the teenagers to a cell/home to the parents with a fine and a serious telling off!

is it wise to keep English people from a cuppa at a time like this.

I mean, it's not like there's much room for doing so to increase the level of aggressiveness of some of them.

The idea that bread is not a staple food in the UK is hilarious. People have lost the plot. (I can't drink coffee without milk or my stomach lining will protest but I can and do drink tea without milk, do I get virtue points for that? Lockdown here started earlier than in the UK and so far I'm doing a big food shop every 2 weeks, but if I run out of rice I'm going to go get more because that is my staple.)

KipperTheFrog · 04/04/2020 17:39

I’ve seen far fewer people walking down our road, the corner shop is quiet. People seem to be obeying the rules where I am. We go out as a family once a day for a walk with DDog. I go food shopping once a week, occasional top up at the corner shop. apart from work, that’s it. We haven’t seen parents except to drop food on the doorstep and wave through the window.
I’m sure someone will be along to tell me we shouldn’t all go to walk the dog, but it’s the only time DD’s leave the house. It’s keeping them sane.
