People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

Hanywany there's no easy way to put this, but is your MH okay? You seem a little hysterical, tbh.

severalboxes · 05/04/2020 19:34

You can buy lots of bread and milk and freeze it. No need to go out every few days.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 05/04/2020 19:35

I live in an old social housing home with neighbours that don't talk, they scream and bang around high cause.both my daughter and me anxiety issues. We can't use our garden as it is little more than a 6ft sq piece of cracked and broken concrete. Every room is cold, even in the sunshine, there's storage heaters I can't use due to the expense of running them. My young daughter has a birthday soon and instead of beaches, softplays, parties etc all she'll get is to sit with headphones on and watch a movie on Disney plus. All around us drug dealers, teenagers, single parents and old age pensioners continue mixing together and treating the pandemic as an excuse to have BBQs, karaoke, do deals over the garden fences. Three times neighbours kids have knocked on the door to see if my daughter wants to come out, each time they've been told she's not allowed out due to the rules. The parents insist that 'it won't come ere' then laugh at my precautions. From my upstairs window I can see farmers fields and tracks and the groups of cyclists meeting at the crossroads to discuss routes with maps and arm waving. From the upstairs front I can see the swing set of the local park with teenagers gathering around it, even though it's padlocked up by the police.
When I am forced to leave the house for necessities like food, all over my town I see flagrant breaching of social distancing. Couples meeting, hugging, laughing. In Tesco two older women hugged and stood for a chat in the middle of the bread aisle. even though it's one way, one was coming back up the wrong at because she'd forgotten wraps... and everyone had to wait for them to finish their chat before continued meandering around the store.

If anyone thinks that this lockdown or social distancing is being adhered too by everyone, you're very very wrong.
Even though I hate this house, it causes anxiety, depression and misery, I know that going out risks slow and horrible death for me and my daughter. If this lockdown lasts 6months, a year, two years. I'd rather that and still have life left once it's over than run into a carrier and be dead in 4 weeks.

Miljea · 05/04/2020 19:36

severalboxes you assume the existence of a freezer, and room in it. Think outside one of your 'boxes' to other people's reality.

mumofababylion · 05/04/2020 19:36

I agree that enforcement of the current rules might be better than a full lockdown. But the way some people are taking the piss is actually making it unsafe for others to go out - I live in a pretty densely populated part of London and I can no longer take my baby for a walk in the pram to my previously deserted local recreation ground because it’s suddenly packed with people who are not exercising, just taking the sun, and not observing the 2m rule etc. So essentially we are confined anyway and don’t go out.

However OP, your kids’ health will not suddenly go through the floor if they stay inside for a number of weeks. The entire populations of Spain, France and Italy are doing this, and they are people who are much more used to the outdoor life in general than we are. Yes you want to keep them healthy - but what if they get the virus because of contacts while out and about?

Again, I’m not saying bring on a full lockdown, but your logic sounds a little off to me. Many of us are completely inside already, and it’s not through choice or because we love watching TV.

Miljea · 05/04/2020 19:38

monkey so the police should target your area, as it's a hotbed of non compliance.

Mine isn't.

IcedPurple · 05/04/2020 19:42

You can buy lots of bread and milk and freeze it.

You can if you've got a car to bring them home and a freezer to freeze them in. And if you're prepared to indulge in the kind of stockpiling which everyone here was complaining about 2 weeks ago.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 05/04/2020 19:43

Miljea

They have been. Bit the 2 officers they assign to the whole town can't police the town, the first rough estate, the playground, the park, the second rough estate, the car park at the country park, the third rough estate. They drive in laps around each area as best they can.

I don't believe my town, my area is unique. Similar will be happening in every town up and down the country.

DanceItOut · 05/04/2020 19:44

I basically hate what this whole thing is doing to humanity at the moment. Due to having symptoms and being in contact with a confirmed case my Husband, kids and I went into isolation on the 13th March. But we didn’t all get symptoms at once. Friday and today have been the only times we have left out flat in over 3 weeks. We have a flat and no garden and yet today while out for our second walk in over 3 weeks we got shouted and sworn at By a complete stranger from a car “you f-Ing C*s, stay in your F-ing home!” Which firstly really charming in front of my 7 and 11 year old but also we literally walked a loop of a couple of local streets which took us about 24 minutes from when we left until we returned. I have been hearing about all my friends and family having bbqs and picnics in their gardens (obviously only for their households) and I get yelled at for getting my kids some fresh air because we don’t have a garden of our own. I came home and I cried. People are turning on one another and it’s horrid.

Flaxmeadow · 05/04/2020 19:44

Yes the majority are complying but there’s still a lot that aren’t

Yes like these bell ends, who drove 50 miles, across county borders, for their daily exercise

"POLICE had to send people away from a North Yorkshire beauty spot after they ignored coronavirus restrictions and drove to the area for a walk.

People from Leeds, Keighley, Bradford and Oldham were turned away by officers from Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team who found them heading to Malham Cove, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, today.

All had ignored Government advice..."

Hanywany · 05/04/2020 19:44

Lifeisgenerallyfun said it exactly spot on because Milijea your saying about gathering in groups aslong as it's from the same household but as the op said it doesn't matter whether your all from the same household your still spreading your shit to everyone else! The whole point of social distancing is for everyone to stay away from everyone that's why grannies can no longer pop round to see grandchildren that's why friends can no longer pop round or picnic with other friends because whether you are related or not or from the same household or not your still giving everyone else your germs just by breathing the same air!!

severalboxes · 05/04/2020 19:46

@Miljea op already talked about oven chips and fish fingers so I take it she has a freezer, unless she was buying and using on the same day I guess

I agree, not everyone has a freezer but probably the majority do, even if it's a tiny one at the top of the fridge.

twinkle2306 · 05/04/2020 19:47

We had a car crash in a couple of towns over from us. Members of 3 different households driving to go out on a dog walk together. They crashed the car and fire, ambulance and police had to attend. They had never had an accident before. Shows that it can happen and is irresponsible to do so

Scottsy100 · 05/04/2020 19:48

Can’t actually believe what I’m reading and that people are saying bread and milk are not essentials. Are you for real or are you taking the piss? And everyone saying Freeze them, not everyone has massive flipping chest freezers you know, bread and milk are pretty bulky things to freeze. Seriously some people need to listen to themselves

severalboxes · 05/04/2020 19:50

@IcedPurple it's not stockpiling to get enough milk and bread for a week or two. The advice is to only shop that much, so is it impossible to shop without stockpiling?

Bread is light anyway.

I just thought some people might not have realised you can freeze milk. Obviously that makes me some kind of out-of-touch Romanov

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 19:50

I've been called selfish ,spoiled and a pampered snowflake on here before for insisting I need bread. Oh well.

Hanywany · 05/04/2020 19:51

Oh yes Milijea my mh is absolutely fine your clearly one of those covidiots flouting the rules left right and centre!

twinkle2306 · 05/04/2020 19:51

@severalboxes you need to be careful @IcedPurple doesn't appreciate the idea of freezing milk

IcedPurple · 05/04/2020 19:52

I agree, not everyone has a freezer but probably the majority do, even if it's a tiny one at the top of the fridge.

"a tiny one at the top of the fridge" isn't going to hold a week's supply of milk and bread as well as everything else you might need to put in there. Not to mention that not carrying all that stuff home won't be easy if you don't have a car.

Anyway, people are allowed to go shopping every few days. It's perfectly acceptable under the current guidelines, whatever MNers want to think.

doghairismyglitter · 05/04/2020 19:53

@Hanywany

Vitamin D is produced by the body when the skin is hit by UVB rays, with 7-dehydrocholesterol being the resulting chemical. But most glass windows block this wavelength meaning you can't reap the health benefits

So no, children cannot get vitamin d stuck indoors day after day.

Laiste · 05/04/2020 19:54

I've not long said this on another thread:

The people who wont follow the rules now wont follow stricter rules either.
Those who are already following the rules wont get to go out of the house at all.

Who are the enforcers who are going to come and to enforce this Lockdown Plus? And why are they suddenly going to be able to do it if they can't enforce the lock down we have already?

Isn't stronger lockdown just bashing further on those who are already obeying guidelines while the minority will just ignore the rules?

Madamum18 · 05/04/2020 19:54

"Milk and bread are not essential"!!!! That is one of the silliest remarks I have seen during this whole miserable mess!! Along with the woman asked on the London News what she was doing wandering around in central London ..."I've never done what I am told and I'm not going to start now!" :?

karenjkayjay · 05/04/2020 19:54

I have three children and milk and bread are definitely not essentials, they are good to have and bread is nice but definitely not essential

IcedPurple · 05/04/2020 19:55

@IcedPurple it's not stockpiling to get enough milk and bread for a week or two.

Yes it is. If everyone did that, the shelves would be bare quite soon.

The advice is to only shop that much, so is it impossible to shop without stockpiling?

No it isn't. There is absolutely nothing to say you can only go shopping every week or two. Even in Wuhan under full lockdown, one person per household was allowed to go shopping once every 3 days.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 05/04/2020 19:57

Wonder if all the parents insisting kids need to go out every single day also insist on it during the winter months when it's fucking it down with rain and sleet... Cause I don't see many around in those months tbh.
