People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

The only people against stricter measures are the ones flouting the current ones.

No, I’m sticking to the rules perfectly well thanks. It’s not unreasonable to expect some sort of evidence that stricter measures will actually make a significant difference to the infection rates and death toll. Just because I am not blindly and willingly happy to give up my freedoms without seeing proof it will work and is necessary doesn’t mean I am not following the rules 🙄

Randomschoolworker19 · 04/04/2020 19:46

My point was that a lock down would be done more with digital means than physical. In China everyone had an app on their phone with a QR code that authorities could scan.

In south Korea they do tracing using mobile app data.

It's easy to send police to hot spots when they can track who is going where and when.

It's how the RAF won the battle of Britain with radar when Germany had so many more planes and pilots. They knew where to send our planes.

aut0replenish · 04/04/2020 19:49

I’ve only been going once a week to shop for 6. I always go on a Friday and still do. Many people have always gone shopping on a Saturday and still do. Everywhere near me was the same as all week, not surprising as it was same old lockdown.😩

Some people are still going to work during the week so the weekends will seem busier. I think some won’t be happy until we have further restrictions, they’re dying to get pics of crowds out.Confused Thought the news today said numbers complying were good.

Lunar567 · 04/04/2020 19:50

Why cannot a family go for a walk together?
They live in the same house any way.
If we get even more restrictions more people will break them

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/04/2020 19:51

id like one trip to a supermarket a week-only

And I’d like my local independent corner shop to still be in business after this! I have more loyalty to them than the supermarkets.

In China everyone had an app on their phone with a QR code that authorities could scan.

What happens if you don’t have a smart phone? Are you not allowed out?

Rebootingagain · 04/04/2020 19:51

Even in Wuhan - where doors were taped shut - one person from each household was allowed to go shopping once every 3 days. *

You not looked at France and Italy then? You need to apply for a permit and take it and your photo is with you

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 19:51

@MigginsMrs that’s bollocks. I’m against it because I need to work, at present I’m a single parent with no income and can’t get benefits because of my job; because my child is off school alone and it’s not good for him; because I want to see my partner; because I’m having a mental health meltdown; because I don’t want the whole country tanked into poverty, and women and children stuck in awful situations to suffer,

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:51

My point was that a lock down would be done more with digital means than physical. In China everyone had an app on their phone with a QR code that authorities could scan

And you think that’s a proportionate way of dealing with this? Really?

People will just start leaving their phones at home when they go out. Withdrawing a large chunk of cash for the week/month rather than cards. I honestly think some people should just get their applications in to emigrate to China or North Korea now. Total and utter madness.

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:53

Sorry @Mascotte I’m not sure what you mean?

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 19:54

@MigginsMrs accept my apologies 😳 I saw the message but it was a quote you disagreed with .. sorry!

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:55

You not looked at France and Italy then? You need to apply for a permit and take it and your photo is with you

What's your point? This isn't France or Italy. We're allowed to go out shopping every day under the current guidelines.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 19:56

The technology used in China was already in general use and was repurposed by the government, which was possible because a. Facebook could only dream of the kind of market penetration the big Chinese social media companies have achieved and b. it's a totalitarian country, so the government can do things like compel it's largest tech companies to get involved in virus tracking. Neither of those factors is in place in the UK. Something could certainly be built, but I'm guessing the British public would bristle at having their every move tracked even more than they are at the current restrictions.

Lunar567 · 04/04/2020 19:57

People are so scared that they don't mind their phones being monitored, army on the street. I am shocked. This is Britain.
Even Russia decided not to do QR codes.

HermioneWeasley · 04/04/2020 19:58

The joy police will fucking hate me - I bought a lobster in my supermarket shop today.

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:58

No problem @Mascotte x

MrsSnitchnose · 04/04/2020 19:58

I'm not having my every move tracked!

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:59

The joy police will fucking hate me - I bought a lobster in my supermarket shop today

Well, I guess it's OK if it was an essential lobster.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 04/04/2020 19:59

To be honest I think the people touting ridiculous phrases like milk and bread not being essentials for everyone are just as much to blame for the situation as the people being idiots and going out left right and centre. This borderline disgusting attitude if making arbitrary rules for other people is happening so often and by so many people its definitely contributing to anxiety in those who are prone to it. An ex colleague of mine was grilled by a horrible judgy woman in the supermarket for buying her kids Easter eggs. Shes been isolated from them as a key worker running a care home (if she didn't go in noone would keep the place running so she felt she needed to and didn't want to risk her kids. ) she just wanted to feel like a mum and picked them up during her shopping for essentials to give to them after lockdown. It was a single moment , it just made her feel like a mum for a moment, and this vile disgusting woman gave her hell for it.

No of course they weren't essential but seriously ? She doesnt ever go out other than to work or to get food and stopped for one second to pick up Easter eggs to give to her kids aAFTER the lockdown. She risked noone. Then spent 15 minutes crying on the phone to me because of that woman. Shes exhausted from working all the hours she can to keep the care home safe so probably over emotional but it was such a dick move from the woman.

I agree people going out for silly reasons need to be dealt with. I was heartened to see that the single walk I went on with the dog (the beach is 3 minutes from my house and my regular dog walk route that takes less than 20 minutes) happens to be a tourist spot and a well known one. I was heartened to see everyone respecting social distancing , everyone was clearly exercising and safely so. It was all dog walks , running or walking.

I also recognised most of them so they were locals I would guess. So to a point it's working.

People should be fined for going out excessively but at this point I'd love to see people being fined for being judgy controlling assholes who think the way they run their lives is the way all should ...not really obviously stupid waste of police resources but would be fun to watch(ironically I eat neither bread nor drink milk but I'm not stupid enough to think most people dont )

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 19:59

(Ponders essential via non-essential lobsters, and if one can freeze them in bits in ice cube trays)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/04/2020 20:02

You not looked at France and Italy then? You need to apply for a permit and take it and your photo is with you

What happens if you don’t have photo ID? As far as I know they have ID cards in other countries but we don’t here

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/04/2020 20:03

The military, fully armed with automatic rifles, should be deployed to every town to keep everyone at home by force. Armed checkpoints on every road into every town, on every motorway slip road. So on and so on. Only trucks and essential services should be on the roads.

If those measures save 1 life, it'd be worth it. If it ends this chaos even a day earlier, it'd be worth it.

In the real world, though (well, the West and not North Korea), we have to keep a sense of proportion and not just gnash and wail "I am unworthy!" as we throw ourselves at the feet of the benevolent dictator.

It's very sad for those who do die of whatever cause and for their families, but life has to go on. In the UK, an average of 5 people are killed every day in road accidents. By your reckoning, we would need to close down ALL roads and ban ALL motor vehicles permanently - and probably, to make sure, ban anybody from even walking outside their houses without a government mandate and an armed police escort.

Of course we can make adjustments for a time when circumstances dictate, but if you remove every last liberty and make life so horrifically unbearable that people end up craving death, I think you've probably lost everything and there's nothing left to bother fighting for anyway.

GabsAlot · 04/04/2020 20:03

@icedpurple where does it say you can go shopping every day?

Randomschoolworker19 · 04/04/2020 20:03

I'm not talking about the current lock down I'm talking about what could potentially happen under a stricter lock down and how it would be tracked / enforced.

It is important to look at what France, Italy and Spain are doing and how they are enforcing things because we're about 2 weeks behind them and up until now we have been mirroring the sort of actions they have taken.

Like I said, it would be digital and information based in addition to police and soldiers on the ground. We have more CCTV than any other country in the world and can track people's whereabouts via all sorts of things.... mobile phones, police ANPR cameras .... drones .... what you spend on your debit or credit card etc.

You'll find it hard to spend your cash when shops go contactless only like many pharmacies already have.

And if it's like France, if you don't have the correct pass/documentation you'll be turned back and sent home.

aut0replenish · 04/04/2020 20:04

I bought my teens 3 x crappy snacks each to last all week, a couple of Easter eggs and my mum and I some geraniums during my weekly food shop . 😱Only time I’m out of the house bar walking all week and I refuse to feel bad about it, you walk past the plants to get to the food.Confused

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 20:05

Gabsalot it is not illegal to go shopping every day under the new legislation.
