People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

Then halve your total consumption to calculate the number of teabags; using them only once is so wasteful!

Please tell me this was sarcasm or I may have to go outside to bang my head repeatedly on a brick wall in my own garden maintaining proper distance from others of course

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 19:22

@MrsSnitchnose Very much sarcastic.

Rebootingagain · 04/04/2020 19:23

Personally, I'll buy what I think I'll need for the next few days. Then I'll go back and get more. Works for me. No ice cube trays required.

And this is why they will force us into state controlled lockdown where you need a permit to go shopping.

MrsSnitchnose · 04/04/2020 19:24

@GotTheCityOnLockdown Thank God for that! There's so many absolutely ludicrous comments on here at the moment that one can never be sure

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 19:25

@Rebootingagain What about those who can't shop for anymore than a few days at a time? Should they just starve for the rest of the week?

So narrow minded.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:25

And this is why they will force us into state controlled lockdown where you need a permit to go shopping.

We are allowed to go shopping once a day. So for me to go every couple of days is well within the guidelines. Curtain twitching MNers don't make the rules.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 19:25

Well, yes, some people can get EXTRA, yes EXTRA, if they have someplace to store it and the means to get it all home. Others live in pokey little flats with fridges barely big enough for one pint of milk and some cheese, or don't have cars and are having to get as much as they can home on foot, or...

Smugging at them about how you make milk ice cubes isn't going to solve those problems, so knock it off.

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 19:26

I really don’t get what part of stag at home and shop for essentials as infrequently as possible is so hard for people to get.*
Here we go again , I do go to the shops for essentials I go once a week maybe again in the week for bread & milk ( some say not essential I say otherwise ) . I'm saying that on lockdown in other countries that you still go to the shops I never said how frequent or infrequent just that you still go to the shops . People need to stop assuming that everyone is doing it wrong and only they are right .

twinkle2306 · 04/04/2020 19:27

@IcedPurple actually you are to go shopping as infrequently as possible. Exercise is once a day

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:29

actually you are to go shopping as infrequently as possible. Exercise is once a day

I walk or cycle to the shops - not every day - so that's my exercise. I don't have a car and have only a small fridge freezer so weekly shops and milk ice cubes aren't going to work for me.

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 19:30

And this is why they will force us into state controlled lockdown where you need a permit to go shopping.*

Why is it wrong to go every few days , I'll say it again even on a stricter lockdown it still will be able to go to the shops every few days .
I swear people think that once a month should be enough .

Randomschoolworker19 · 04/04/2020 19:30

People don't seem to understand what a stricter lock down would entail.

It would pretty much be like now only the frequency you could go shopping and how far you could go from your home for exercise would be limited.

People saying we don't have the man power to enforce a lock down are also incorrect.

It's very easy to see where people are going just by tracking their phones. You can also use drones and helicopters too in order to get a bird's eye view.

It's not hard to monitor your purchasing history or when you withdraw cash. We're all so interconnected these days that digital surveillance would be very easy.

The police and army would only need to lock down major transport hubs like motorways, train and tram stations, buses and have check points on round abouts and major roads.

The only people against stricter measures are the ones flouting the current ones.

Gronky · 04/04/2020 19:31

Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days

Sorry if someone's already said this but the trick to freezing bread is to seal it up in the quantities you use it. For example, if you're making 3 sandwiches, bag up 6 slices tightly (so there's no air gaps but don't squeeze the bread) and freeze. When it's time to defrost, take that bag out of the freezer and put it on the counter, this preserves the moisture content and the bread is essentially indistinguishable from day old. If you take it out of one big bag, the moisture left behind on the inside of the bag, as well as the reintroduction of dry air will give you dry bread.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:32

Why is it wrong to go every few days , I'll say it again even on a stricter lockdown it still will be able to go to the shops every few days .
I swear people think that once a month should be enough

Even in Wuhan - where doors were taped shut - one person from each household was allowed to go shopping once every 3 days.

But I guess that's not virtuous enough for the shopping basket Stasi of MN.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 19:33

Loads of people in the UK don't do a 'big weekly shop' for various reasons.

twinkle2306 · 04/04/2020 19:35

@Gronky oh god don't say that. @IcedPurple takes offence at any helpful tips!

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:35

People saying we don't have the man power to enforce a lock down are also incorrect.

Really? There are the best part of a million people who live in Glasgow etc. Even if half of them break the rules how many police etc is it going to take to deal with them?

I’ve seen less police out and about than I have in years. So I’m not convinced in the slightest that there would be the resource to deal with wholesale non compliance.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 19:36

They're referring to putting the army out, tanks and armed soldiers in the streets etc

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:37

Going shopping every few days is fine. It’s only mumsnet who have made up that it isn’t. The first minister of Scotland said shopping for essentials should be “no more than once a day “.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 19:37

That always works out really well...

Gronky · 04/04/2020 19:38

Gronky oh god don't say that. IcedPurple takes offence at any helpful tips!

Sorry, IcedPurple.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/04/2020 19:40

i saw more cars on my way to work.....yes!! payday was ridiculous, everyone out

You do realise, don't you, that many, many people have to wait for pay day until they can afford to do a big food shop or buy other essentials? That's true normally, let alone now when many people's income has been reduced/removed/delayed significantly.

It's very arrogant to assume that pay day means a massive shopping spree for frivolities and luxuries for everybody when plenty of people have to count down the long days until they can get in basic essentials for their households.

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 19:41

They're referring to putting the army out, tanks and armed soldiers in the streets etc

Oh yeah, I’ll wait for the tanks to come rolling down my suburban street along with soldiers armed with assault rifles. Am equally sure there’s the resource to deal with that in every populated area in the U.K.

Some people have zero sense of perspective here. What kind of difference will this actually make to infection rates? More strict measures are only justified if it can be proven that they will actually make a difference. Lots and lots of people will sadly die regardless. I honestly think some people think this will stop tomorrow if we have the army patrolling the streets, as if they can scare the virus into retreat 🙄

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 19:43

Institute martial law because my neighbor takes her dog out for too many walks! People have gone mad.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 04/04/2020 19:45

id like one trip to a supermarket a week-only
Thus destroying a whole lot of small local businesses who employ a relatively high number of people compared to their turnover and feed most of their takings back into the local economy.

Very clever.
