People demanding a full lock down

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:05

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

A lot of people are still thronging out now the weather is good. Fact is, we don't know how anyone will do with the virus, yes, 80% will get only mild symptoms, but there's no way to know who will be in that, even young people and children can die from it. There's a lot of but this is hard and I have children on these threads, and what about mental health and the lockdown is worse than the disease, but I wonder how many would be saying that if it were their child who died on a vent without their parents in the room.

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 18:46

Yum ice cream and crisps. I don't think Corona comes for you if it finds out you had a snack.

I saw a girl get jumped on on FB. She asked whether supermarkets etc had crafts for sale. She got told off. She said her three year old needed occupying. She got told off again. I personally thought she was right. If we are staying in and can provide something nice for the kids then what's the problem! It's still important to do these things.

I think we can all agree bread and milk are essentials for 99% of us.

Most of us agree the walking is important.

We agree some idiots are spoiling it for the rest

We are also surrounded by curtain twitchers

We can all agree we don't want anymore death but we need to still do our best to keep sane and be happy. That doesn't involve ignoring the rules. But it does involve letting yourself breathe in the air and walk/excercise. It does involve being allowed to eat nice meals. No you don't have to live without bread and milk. You also can pick up a cake or a bottle of wine whilst you go get your essentials.

It's also important to understand the basics of difference in people. Some live in flats. With small freezers. Less money. Less options. Can't drive. Have children. Have depression. Have anxiety. Live alone. Help others. Have dogs. Need to go out more for essentials.

Don't presume everyone can live just like you.

Thanks for the replies guys. Most of you on here talk complete sense. It's really refreshing to see people not trying to be perfect. Keep going folks x

Bread and milk might be staples but in some areas you haven't been able to get bread for a week or more. Our two local shops have it at last but it sells out fast.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/04/2020 18:47

Endless cups of tea are the only things standing between me and insanity.

They and a fucking essential, if there ever was one.

SteamingTheDoorKnobs · 04/04/2020 18:47

I wish the poster who stated bread and milk are not essential would come back and tell us what is, and tell us what they themselves buy that's so esential. I presume they survive on water and some sort of dehydrated astronaut food?

Rebootingagain · 04/04/2020 18:47

Other lockdown countries you can still go to the shops hmm

Well yes, but with a permit that you print off and probably have to show the police on the way there.

I really don’t get what part of stag at home and shop for essentials as infrequently as possible is so hard for people to get.

I got hammered on another thread last night for saying people need to stop “nipping out” for bread and milk.

Food is essential, so if your house has none in it you can go get some from the nearest shop. While you are there get everything you need and avoid having to go out again for as long as you can. People keep abusing it, so we/you (I am not UK) will probably end up forced into a full lockdown.

Incidentally I don’t think that’s the right answer as realistically we all need exposing to it in a controlled manner, but if people are too selfish to modify their behaviour we will be forced to lockdown and the massive economic and social impact of that because people can’t use common sense for a few weeks.

My local police posted this today - Isle of Man. People here are being stupid as well.

“ An Officer on patrol has reported that a worryingly high number of vehicles stopped were on non essential journeys or travelling longer than necessary.

Taking a long drive home or driving from Douglas to Colby for a walk are 2 examples.

Only travel for 1 of the essential reasons and for the absolute minimum distance required. Less time on the road, less chance of an accident that ties up resources such as 999 services and hospital beds

Our approach is for officers to engage, explain and encourage the public and only enforce as a last resort.

Also continue to social distance as this is what will stop the spread of this virus.

We are all in this together, please follow the rules to save lives. We will enforce if we have to but that means people are not listening and we are better than that as an Island. Let’s show them how it should be done. #StayHomeProtectOurHealthService“

Kiln · 04/04/2020 18:47

Where I live there are kids roaming around the streets in groups, people from different households in the same car, neighbours are having friends/family visit...I could go on.

I've also seen other people try to enforce social distancing to some of them, but there's always a string of excuses reasons why they don't have to i.e. "Oh it's alright, she looks after my kids and I'm a keyworker", whilst waiting in the queue for the shop.

The problem is, even if we had a stricter lockdown it won't stop these people. The only people who it will affect are the ones who follow the rules.

Leflic · 04/04/2020 18:49

It’s like a diet. They are strict because they know a majority will “ cheat”.

Will a car journey to walk the dog or leaving the house for a walk 3 times a day rather than 1 transmit the virus...probably not.
Nipping to the shop everyday, maybe.
Having to work, probably.

The less all of us do the less the risk.

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 18:49

This site is full of mental people wanting as much misery and deprivation as possible and policing what’s essential. I’ve heard it all now: that milk and bread aren’t essentials??

This crisis has truly brought out the fuckwits.

EvilPea · 04/04/2020 18:50

b and q isn’t essential

Until your heating goes or your tap is pissing water over your kitchen.

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 18:51

And heaven forfend you might be worried about having no job so no income, or deteriorating mental health. Full lockdown, they cry!

I8toys · 04/04/2020 18:51

I felt guilty for setting foot outside my house today to walk to our local garage to get supplies after being in since Wednesday. Its the only exercise I have had. My kids have used our exercise bike, my husband runs at 0400 or 0500am. I am sick of people saying that's not essential etc etc. Everyone is trying their best.

GabsAlot · 04/04/2020 18:53

And as preditced just read folkestone council page theyre having to turn away families driving down there one from london

its fucking ridiculous so yes we need a total lockdown

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 18:53

It seems to me that a lot of posters have (for no reason?) martyred themselves and developed a sense of superiority due to that.

Because they're eating gruel, having a strip wash with cold water and living in solitary confinement, everyone else should be too. If you don't (and decide you want some luxuries and entertainment i.e Netflix to get through this) then you deserve to get COVID and/or arrested.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 18:56

Because they're eating gruel, having a strip wash with cold water and living in solitary confinement, everyone else should be too.

Ah yes, the old MN fave, 'strip washes'.

While you're strip washing away at the sink, you can work out how many cups of tea you might want tomorrow, just so you can defrost the correct number of space saving ice milk cubes.

PyjamaLlama · 04/04/2020 19:05

I honestly don’t understand why people are still trying to play all this down. The U.K. death toll has risen to 4,353 today. Please stay home to protect the NHS.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:06

Nobody's trying to play it down. They just don't appreciate the curtain twitching shopping basket Stasi.

But, nice strawman.

Eckhart · 04/04/2020 19:07

I shake your hand, OP. Whilst having no idea who you are, and of course, respecting social distancing guidelines.

Recognition of this would decimate about 80% of the MN COVID 19 madness.

MH1111 · 04/04/2020 19:10

It will be difficult for the government to extend the current lock down, let alone increase the severity of it

twinkle2306 · 04/04/2020 19:12

@IcedPurple I'm confused. How has this turned into looking at what you have in your shopping basket? I'm saying you could get EXTRA yes EXTRA milk and freeze it which could limit the time you go out etc. Not telling you to put things back 🙄🙄. You've clearly decided that unless everyone has the same opinion as you we should not try and be helpful explain how you could save space if you needed to. You crack on!
And FYI can't be a curtain twitcher if my front room faces the road and the window is directly opposite the sofa. I can see exactly who's coming in and out from over the top of my tv if I wished to count I could but not everyone is standing at their windows counting 🙄

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 04/04/2020 19:14

@IcedPurple
Then halve your total consumption to calculate the number of teabags; using them only once is so wasteful!

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 19:18

MH111
I think you might be in for a bit of a surprise there.

IcedPurple · 04/04/2020 19:18

I'm confused. How has this turned into looking at what you have in your shopping basket?

Well, don't be confused.

Just look at the post above where someone said her neighbours go out several times a day to buy '1 or 2 items'. How she knows the contents of their shopping bags remains a mystery.

I'm saying you could get EXTRA yes EXTRA milk and freeze it which could limit the time you go out etc.

Of course it was the people buying EXTRA yes EXTRA milk which led to the shortages a week or two back.

Personally, I'll buy what I think I'll need for the next few days. Then I'll go back and get more. Works for me. No ice cube trays required.

Summersunandoranges · 04/04/2020 19:20

I agree and it makes me cringe every time I see some one screaming for total lock down and to bring the army in.

How easily people will give up their liberty and others

My niece who works in A&E was sent home early last night as it was so quiet.

Friday night A&E - quiet. It’s unheard off. It’s working.

This virus is going to be around till the end of the year. It’s not going to disappear just because we are staying in. By the end of the year nearly all of us would have had it - even if we are locked away.

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 19:20

No playing it down. I've stayed home. I've stayed away. My kids have stayed home.

My post was to complain about people jumping the gun. Presuming that people are all out for no good reason. Everyone should be able to shop once a week and go home. Not go out for bread or milk. Not pop to the shops for elderly or vunerable family. Not be out walking simply to give themselves and their children some air and normality. That's all we have afterall. Ofcourse it's serious.

But I also think we can't depress ourselves any further. We know what's going on. It's depressing and grim. It's the worst thing in the world right now. Everytime I read the death toll my heart sinks.

But one day we will be able to slowly be us again. If we keep our minds and bodies healthy for that day. Good food. Abit of fresh air. Then when we go back out hopefully we will soon settle.

Theres alot of sadness going on. It just seems people want to pick and pick and pick at people for everything they do. They might choose the time of day to walk when half the street had the same idea. But it wasn't done on purpose. Those 25 cars that went down the main road in 15 minutes probably were shopping. Delivering to family. Popping to the pet shops. Going for a walk. Going to work. It doesn't mean they are all breaking the rules. I just find it distasteful to make a ranty comment on the local towns covid 19 support page..... Saying people are out today in cars. Someone actually put they can't get it into their thick skulls to stay home..... I mean thick skulls? My parents shop on a Friday because they can't get a slot. They don't have thick skulls. They are decent people who are going to get food to survive. Yet Sarah from curtain twitcher lane has seen their car and decided they are off to the beach!
