People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

Prodigal green for me too, and absolutely essential!

MyfanwyMontez · 04/04/2020 18:12

newrubylane

Thank you for making me laugh with your comment about hedges!😂

MN is getting worse, time to leave I think. There are some right nutters here, it’s worse than Facebook if that possible

Flipflops23 · 04/04/2020 18:12

This is the M1 today at 2.30pm suggesting that people are listening 😀

Mrssnitch I know it was a dangerous joke Wink

Montsti · 04/04/2020 18:16

We’re under full lockdown in South Africa (21 days at least). No walks allowed. You have to stay in your house/garden and only venture out for food/medical supplies or in an emergency unless you are a key worker.

It’s pretty hard but a lot worse for millions of others..we’re on day 9....
You really don’t want this so Abide by the rules..

Re: bread and milk - I would say they are essentials on most (not all) households BUT I buy extra and freeze so we don’t go out to the shops more than once a week...

Graunaile2017 · 04/04/2020 18:21

I confess we bought crisps and ice cream today, only shop this week, also bought fruit and veg and the demon drink.
I don't get the problem with what people are buying, if it is in the shop and not rationed then buy it, we're on lock down not some sort of penance fast.

Some people have been seen to smile too- imagine!!

I walk the dog every day down my lane and round through the fields and back through the village. It’s like a ghost town. So eerie.

If my neighbours had seen dh and I unloading the car earlier they’d have wondered. Bags of compost and pots of flowers. We buy our dog food from our local garden centre. I’ve used them for years, they have a fantastic farm shop too. We grow a lot of salad and veg ourselves, even more urgent now given the lack of stuff available on the shops. And the hellebores were looking wonderful and I have a couple of gaps in the beds so I picked some up while I was there. So I’ve got enough dog food for the month and enough compost to get the greenhouse and veg patch well under way. And then I’m going to sit in my garden with a coffee in the sunshine and admire the flowers.

My DS works full time at a supermarket. His view is that people adjust the ‘rules’ according to what they want to do and what suits them.

Examples:

Couple shopping not allowed. Yes but I always go with my partner, cannot carry the shopping (what about a trolley?) need partner to help me remember what to buy etc, etc etc

No families en masse and you are taking up space in the shop. Yes but....

No cash. Yes but.....

He saw the same people (mainly elderly) coming out every single day especially as there was now a special slot for them. One said she didn’t want to miss out!

Some people cannot follow single instructions hence the endless threads on what can and cannot be done.

I have to say though that shortly people will start pushing at the rules.

Especially when the weather gets better.

pennylane83 · 04/04/2020 18:22

If milk and bread aren't essentials what do you propose I give my three children for breakfast and lunch everyday for 2 weeks (given that they can no longer have cereal/porridge/sandwiches/toast) before venturing out to do the supermarket shop.

Tea isn't essential...

Tea not essential

Shock speechless 😶

Wonders off to count teabags

CoolCarrie · 04/04/2020 18:27

We are in South Africa and it’s a total lockdown here, only food shops and chemists open here, nothing else at all, we can’t go out to walk our dogs or exercise. No buses , just Ubers and minibus taxis from 5 am - 9am and 4 pm - 8pm for the people who work in the shops, no alcohol, no cigarettes sold. It’s terrible, but needs to be that way here because of the amount of people who live very, very close together. You are lucky in the UK at least you can get out every day if you choose to, don’t abuse your luck.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/04/2020 18:27

Yes - I have to admit I am baffled by the statement that milk and bread are not essentials - maybe @3rdTrimester is Marie Antoinette (“let them eat cake”)?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2020 18:28

I have milk in my freezer

So if we have to self isolate Ds has enough to drink and I can have tea

We can live without bread we have plenty of crackers but milk is an essential in this house (and tea)

Eckhart · 04/04/2020 18:29

@pennylane83 What's up with gruel?

Alialialiali · 04/04/2020 18:29

I just read the entire thread. SO amusing.Highlights if youre just joining:
Bread +milk are not essential - responses to this constitute 80% of this thread
Someone said theyll suck the dust from the hoover nozzle to sustain themselves
Another person suggested tea was not essential and then ran out the room
Curtain twitchers lololol
And one lady wants to turn the UK into the gaza strip where soldiers can fire automatic weapons at children...to er.... save lives....ahem...

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2020 18:31

CoolCarrie that’s really strict and difficult to live by

As you said things are different there and countries have to manage things differently as best they can

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 18:31

Perfect sum up @Alialialiali Grin

TheGreatWave · 04/04/2020 18:36

Milk and bread do not need to be purchased every few days. They are not essentials

I am going to politely disagree, but I get to wave the disability flag. DS has autism and lives on cereal. We use around 5/6 pints a day. We have been for 12pts of milk Monday, Thursday and today.

Last week instead of 12 pts of milk, Sainsbury's sent me 4pts in total. Absolute waste of time.

But I get to play the disability card. Go team DS.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 18:39

The idea that bread and milk, staples in the UK, are not essential, is ridiculous.

People have lost their minds.

DCOkeford · 04/04/2020 18:40

@Justincasecakehappens

With respect, you don't understand the regulations; you're following some made up version without having actually read the legislation for yourself.

The regulations themselves clearly define 'basic necessities' and food is one of the items specifically listed as such.

It doesn't matter what the food is, if its edible, it's already defined as a 'basic necessity'

10milewalk · 04/04/2020 18:40

The thought of a totally lock down fills me with dread, I would get so depressed without a daily walk.

DCOkeford · 04/04/2020 18:41

The idea that bread and milk, staples in the UK, are not essential, is ridiculous

You could be buying nothing but foie gras and smoked salmon on a daily basis, and you would still be well within the law.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 18:43

Our Waitrose is out of four gras, I'm not sure what to do.

I've been up every hour to check if it's come in, no joy.
