Where do you think this came from?

Just that really. Where do you think this virus came from? What started it?

OP posts:

Live animal markets in China, wuhan region. Where did you think?

dementedpixie · 04/04/2020 09:24

Bats then through another animal before it reached humans. Why?

IHaveTheLurgy · 04/04/2020 09:25

Is this a conspiracy theory thread?

Cornettoninja · 04/04/2020 09:25

Its from China’s wet markets. Animals are kept and slaughtered in close conditions allowing bodily fluid to mix and viruses to mutate. Hygiene isn’t very high on the agenda so cross contamination allows for lots of opportunities for viruses to jump species.

PoptartPoptart · 04/04/2020 09:25

The scientific research centre in Wuhan.
Experimentation gone wrong - or right - depending on which conspiracy theory you believe in.

HildegardeCrowe · 04/04/2020 09:28

China. They’ve closed all the wet markets for now but the rest of the world needs to make sure they close them permanently. Good video about this on the PETA website.

daisypond · 04/04/2020 09:29

Bats, and then another animal - pangolins? -before jumping to humans. Like other types of coronaviruses.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/04/2020 09:33

Bats and pangolins, and wet markets.

Not 5G (I don’t understand how anyone can think that?)

RickSanchez · 04/04/2020 09:38

I don't know but what I do know is that as a species we have been eating animals, not following accepted hygiene measures and cross-contaminating since day dot... Yet this is the first time we've had a virus of this nature do what this virus has done.

BurgerQuean · 04/04/2020 09:42

The consumption of meat, like most novel viruses.

dementedpixie · 04/04/2020 09:43

It's not the first time. SARS and MERS did the same sort of thing

RickSanchez · 04/04/2020 09:47

But not really Pixie, because it didn't lead to a global lockdown did it? Why has there never been anything even approaching this scale if this is something that can happen 'naturally.'?

By the way, I don't have any answers to this, it's just something I've wondered. I also think the 5g conspiracy theory is a load of old bollocks.

dementedpixie · 04/04/2020 09:51

Sorry I thought you meant a virus hadnt jumped from animals to humans before. This one seems to spread much wider than the other 2

ChipsyChopsy · 04/04/2020 09:53

Bird flu, swine flu, HIV, Ebola. All viruses that originated in another species. Because of the way that viruses 'reproduce' they churn out loads of accidental mutations. If you are mixing with other species in close quarters, it's only a matter of time before a mutation that allows the virus to live in another species occurs.

SnuggyBuggy · 04/04/2020 09:54

In most cases the most likely explanation turns out to be the right explanation

ChipsyChopsy · 04/04/2020 09:58

The global aspect of it is probably down to the way it is spread, the way we live (international travel), and the sharing of information.

Of course you could let the virus burn through the population, and let everyone take their chances, in the way new viruses do in plants and animals, but not many people would accept that.

Snowflakes1122 · 04/04/2020 09:58

There’s a lab 900 feet from the market. A Chinese university states it believe it came from there.
Who knows? I honestly would trust anything the Chinese government say.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 04/04/2020 09:59

People eating bats. Do you not watch the news op?

RickSanchez · 04/04/2020 10:02

Maybe I'm cynical. I remember watching a documentary about Porton Down a few years ago (UK biological weapons development place) and it was very heavily hinted that there were things developed there that the general population would never be told of.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 10:02

We spread it quickly with planes. Although the fleas on a rat on a boat did a good job too back with the bubonic plague. Italy first hotspot back then too.

dementedpixie · 04/04/2020 10:02

People didnt eat the bats. Bats infected the animals that were then eaten

Lonelycrab · 04/04/2020 10:03

There was an article in the Guardian the other day linking to as study of various Coronavirus types. It concluded that this one is simply a continuation of viruses seen previously, and follows a logical evolution.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/04/2020 10:05

Do you know that funny shaped comet?

I have it on good authority, well it was my cousin who was abducted by some aliens and kept in a lab on it, alongside with a chihuahua and some penguins, so anyway, they let him off but he says he had a really bad cough in 2017 and he recons it's them. He couldn't tell me more though, because someone on his ward took the phone off him, but I promise to ask next time they release him from the hospital.

kimlo · 04/04/2020 10:07

this isn't the first time it has happened, it is the first time it has happened during most peoples lifetime on this scale.

Spanish flu also led to lockdowns, lasted about 2 years.

Swine flu is the pandemic people in this country remember but there was tamiflu to treat that and it wasn't as contagious.

The world is more interlinked now with quicker and easier international travel. 24 hour rolling news means we know more about what is happening all over the world.

Theres no big plan, no big conspiracy.

starrysimon · 04/04/2020 10:09

Infected bats and the live animal markets in China. Not 5G or a government conspiracy.

It is really hideous that all this distraction came from someone deciding to eat a wild animal that wouldn’t normally be eaten, in our world anyway. Something needs to be put in place to stop this. Banning the animals from being sold and eaten etc.
