Can I join please? All this talk of obesity/COVID 19 is giving me a bit of a kicking

So I weighed myself this morning. I'm 5ft 7, 17st 10 Blush and BMI is 38.7

I kick myself, I love healthy food, I'm a vegetarian and would happily eat plate after plate of veg, but ultimately I'm lazy. I'm the only veggie in the house so find myself going for egg and chips, processed food options.

So my plan.... walk more... eat better, homemade food... odd treats - have to be realistic I love chocolate.. drink more water

First target is to get down to 17st...

lesbihonest · 05/05/2020 20:41

Had my most active day this year 🥴 - walked 5.5km or so . I’m struggling hugely with anxiety when walking but keep trying . My HR seems to go up to about 130 when walking at times which makes me think I’m not as fit as I should be at all !

Meals today... cereal and milk for breakfast, crackers/cheese and a bit of chicken for lunch and then home done pizza for tea . Pizza was lovely - haven’t had a treat meal in ages . Helps hugely that you can control what’s on it when it’s made at home .

Calorie counter says I’ve only eaten 1500 calories which I doubt very much - spent 3000 though so hopefully I’ve managed to get a good deficit .

Slazengerbag · 05/05/2020 22:27

I know we aren’t shielding but are classed as vulnerable. Will we just be told to get on with it when lockdown is over?

Bakewell79 · 05/05/2020 22:33

I have an inkling we will just have to be really strict with the social distancing Slazengerbag.

I have a phone call booked in with my GP tomorrow as today I received a letter to be on standby for jury service next month and I want to get his advice on it.

Will ask about shielding and vulnerable and see what he says, will report back then!

Can I join please

I'm female, 37 years old.

I'm 5 ft 4
16 stone and 2/3/4 lbs.
BMI approx 39

I knew for a long time I had to lose weight, I just never did.

I cleaned up my diet in a big way over the past year because of dental issues, reducing sugars and carbs.

I walk to work every day. About 10 minutes. That's all the exercise I do. I clearly need to do more.

I started walking more since March. Today was my longest day. 6 km walk.

One of my favourite things I did was eliminate cereals for breakfast. I like to flip the meals around and have the biggest meal of the day at breakfast time and I focus on nutrition. So breakfast is
Poached eggs and veg and maybe some cheese, or
Salmon and veg

I find it really helps with food cravings/crashing and it helps me to keep going right up til lunch.

Was nearly 17 stone in March so I'm definitely down a few pounds.

Uptheduffy · 06/05/2020 00:06

I've gone back onto calorie counting which I really didn't want to but it's shown me I was eating far more than I could hope to lose weight on. I've managed 4 days with a 1000 calories deficit but it is hard! Yesterday I didn't have enough calories left for dinner! That's untenable but today I had a 2 mile walk and a decent dinner!
Am interested in what pp said about 21 days - is that the time they reckon it takes for a new habit to form?

Uygop · 06/05/2020 00:38

.

YinuCeatleAyru · 06/05/2020 08:42

BMI today is 39.52 so still 40 to the nearest whole number but should be more definitively below the 40 mark by next weigh in. I haven't done much exercise the last couple of days as I have been feeling grotty on my period and it's taken all the discipline I can summon to not to curl up on the sofa with a 200g bar of chocolate and a family bag of doritos. just had a pretty healthy breakfast - potato & courgette pancakes made with 50g potato, 50g courgette, a tsp of flour, an egg and seasoning, fried in fry-light and served with 50g cherry tomatoes - less than 200 calories and I feel nicely full. hopefully today will go better.

Uptheduffy · 06/05/2020 11:58

That pancake sounds really nice. I end up eating more processed stuff when calorie counting as I find it hard to work out what's in a home made dish.

SMJYellow · 06/05/2020 12:35

I'm not calorie counting at all. I know I probably should but I'm focusing more on nutrition - fish, chicken, cheese, veg.

Would people here recommend trampolining as a form of exercise. I'm tempted to get a trampoline to add into my week. My exercise is mainly walking.

I bought some aqua shoes for the beach so I hope to go early in the mornings during the summer for a dip in the sea. I don't know how to swim. 15 minutes walk to the beach, go into the sea for a bit and home again before breakfast, that will hopefully help.

lesbihonest · 06/05/2020 13:11

Is anyone else on here considering a walk twice a day? I’m in a wee village ... we normally don’t see many people out walking, don’t touch anything when out and can always keep distance . Dithering over increasing to twice a day - it would be easier for me I think than one longer walk . I know the rules in Scotland are stricter and I 100% support that for shopping, but exercise alone away from others ... ??

ladylunchalot · 06/05/2020 13:39

Hey everyone, feeling so encouraged by this thread, so good to hear other people are feeling the same as me and struggle with food.
I lost 0.5kg this week, happy enough with that, going for slow and steady. I don't think I'm drinking enough though which might be affecting my weight loss?? Now making a conscious effort to drink more.
Lesbihonest, I think an extra walk would be fine especially if it's quiet. I'm in Scotland too.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 06/05/2020 18:19

Are you in Scotland or England @lesbihonest? I'm in England and going out for more than one walk a day. The law just says that you can go out when it is reasonable to exercise. I figured that given I am in a very quiet area where it's very easy to maintain a distance and the best thing I can do for the NHS is to lose some weight, it seems reasonable to me.

In England the guidance does not have any legal weight and seems to be aimed at people in eg busy parts of London where it would be impossible to maintain social distancing if people were out multiple times a day and/or for long periods.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 06/05/2020 18:24

Whilst we're talking about going out for walks in this warm weather, let me just throw out a quick recommendation for some anti-chafing ("chub rub") products in case anyone needs any.

My favourites are these:
www.thebigbloomerscompany.co.uk/collections/anti-chafing-knickers
These are the comfiest knickers I own and stop my thighs rubbing.

snagtights.com/collections/80-denier-opaque-chub-rub-shorts
These are also really good - they are just like tights that stop above the knee.

Uptheduffy · 06/05/2020 20:51

@SMJYellow are you meaning a large trampoline or a trampete? I've used a trampete for sorting of running on in the past - good for lowering impact. I've used the dc's large trampoline sometimes but too high bouncing hurts my knees! (And I worry the neighbours are laughing at me)

Uptheduffy · 08/05/2020 11:37

How is everyone doing?
I'm getting shopping tomorrow and going to aim for lots of fruit and no chocolate Smile Or only stuff the dc like and I don't!

lesbihonest · 08/05/2020 11:42

Struggling these last few days . Didn’t get out for a walk yesterday ... Gave in completely and had a takeaway last night for the first time in weeks . My weight is hovering at about 131kg, so I’m maintaining 16kg loss ... but can’t get over the fact that I still need to lose another 7 stone minimum .

Also feeling feverish/shivery (36.9 underarm so admittedly a very low grade fever if it is?) so panicking about that !

It’s my tummy that bothers me more than anything, I can feel it when I’m lying down that it’s like squashing me, and it’s horribly uncomfortable .

lesbihonest · 08/05/2020 11:43

@Uptheduffy we are doing that, one Tesco order a week and absolutely no chocolate, sweets, cakes, chips etc ... it’s bloody hard !

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 12/05/2020 14:16

How's everyone doing? I've just been for my weekly supermarket trip and care very close to buying some chocolate but didn't in the end. I can't eat what I don't have in the house. I also managed a 5k very, very slow jog run yesterday.

I'm at 1 stone 1 lb lost since lockdown started now and feeling lots better.

SMJYellow · 12/05/2020 14:45

I'm doing OK.

I bought a stability ball a few years ago for a sore back. It was in the corner of the room. I do exercises on that every morning before breakfast. My phone calculates the ball bouncing as steps.

Aside from that. I've been walking loads. I got 16000 steps done on my most successful day last week. My daily steps are mainly over 10,000. I had two bad days on Sunday and yesterday. Work is being an absolute fcuking nightmare today and I know I'm probably going to crash tonight as a result.

SMJYellow · 12/05/2020 14:55

I was tipping the scales at nearly 17 stone a few weeks ago or after Christmas. I'm now down to 16 stone 1lb so I suppose its moving in the right direction.

Uptheduffy · 12/05/2020 14:58

That's really good Smile
I've had a positive week and just need to maintain the momentum. Was very excited to see my bmi drop a little bit, even with just a few pounds loss

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 12/05/2020 15:06

Well done both!

My BMI is down nearly 3 points. This is one time when I'm grateful for being short. Your BMI goes up quicker when you gain weight but goes down quicker too when you lose it,

YinuCeatleAyru · 12/05/2020 18:29

BMI now 39.2. Still progressing steadily downwards. I have been losing about 3lb a week on average which I can see from various websites is a bit faster than is recommended (several sources say 2lb a week is best target) but I have been feeling generally healthy and not feeling massively hungry - I'm eating lots of veg which are filling without much calories so I think I am probably OK. I'm even enjoying a couple of squares of chocolate most evenings. If I keep losing weight at this rate I will be down to a BMI of 35 by the end of June but it feels much more likely that I will plateau off before then.

Well done to everyone else on this thread - however quickly or slowly it is going for you, you are making positive steps to being more healthy and that is to be celebrated, whatever stage you are at.

ladylunchalot · 12/05/2020 20:19

Well done everyone, great to hear you're managing to still lose. I'm struggling big time, have been v good, tracking every mouthful and upping my exercise and I'm putting weight on!!! I'm scared shitless of catching corona and being so ill with it because of my weight - doesn't help having to go out to work every day (NHS so surrounded with posters of it).
Help!!! Could my lack of progress be due to perimenopause? I'm now over 50 days between cycles and almost 46.
