Hi. Hope you don't mind me joining in. My BMI used to be around 31, then went up to around 35, with a lifetime high of 39. I started tracking calories on 20th April, when I weighed 97.4kg with a BMI of 36.6. I'm now down to 94.5kg with a BMI of 35.5. If I get down to 92.5kg I will have lost 5% of my body weight💪

Uptheduffy · 15/05/2020 09:31

Lots of success on here! Ladylunchalot I'm sure the peri wont help, but not sure why you would gain weight - do you definitely have a calorie deficit? I know I can't lose weight the week period is due (like you, I haven't seen one for a while)
I've had about 12 successful days in a row but have dd's birthday this weekend and have bought lots of treats to make up for being in lockdown for it - I'm not sure how to manage on the day I don't think I can only have a sliver of birthday cake etc.

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 15/05/2020 09:44

I had gained on Monday, even though I'd had fewer calories in the days before than previously when I did lose weight. Then tadaaa, period on Tuesday! So I think @Uptheduffy has a point!

YinuCeatleAyru · 15/05/2020 10:38

That's useful info, thank you.

For the first time today since the start of lockdown, I have not lost any weight since my last weigh 3 days ago. Exactly the same measurement. I know this is to be expected so am trying not to lose my positive attitude but it is disappointing. I have been eating very slightly more in the last few days as I realised my weight loss has been a bit faster than the recommended 2lb per week and I thought it would be healthier to slow down very slightly, but the difference hasn't been huge. Hopefully the pause will be brief.

Managed to lose another 0.5kg due to my period arriving then having a dodgy tum, every cloud and all that lol. Feeling more positive again and trying to keep on the rails again.

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 18/05/2020 10:56

Another 0.3kg off, total lost now 3.2kg/7lbs/ half a stone! BMI from 36.6 to 35.4💪

SMJYellow · 18/05/2020 12:10

I had a relatively bad week last week. The fridge and the press was getting empty so I running out from my favourite healthy food stuffs like eggs, cheese, vegetables so I did eat poorly for a few days. Then there was a combination of work and family stresses, and some body aches and I didn't exercise as often as I would have liked. All in all it was disappointing week. I didn't weigh myself. I can't bring myself to do it.

I had a good weekend. The tesco shop arrived and I began to eat better. I exercised more even yesterday when it was raining, I was out walking.

SMJYellow · 18/05/2020 12:13

My starting bmi would have been 39.9.

Its down to 38.4 now. I'm going in the right direction. I need to keep going.

Uptheduffy · 20/05/2020 06:57

I was quite excited weighing myself this morning as I have been doing well (1 bad day as it was a birthday but got straight back to my 1000 calorie deficit rather than writing off a whole week!) but the scales this morning have not shifted at all. I can't eat any less!

Mistressiggi · 20/05/2020 06:58

Lots of positive stories on here and even a little bit in the right direction is a good thing.

YinuCeatleAyru · 20/05/2020 08:08

after being stuck at an unchanging weight for 8 days the scales suddenly show 0.7kg vanished this morning. must be that "whoosh" effect that someone mentioned. BMI now 38.8.

I think it is important to gradually ramp up the exercise as the weight comes off. the level of exercise that I was finding challenging a few weeks ago is now easy, and if it's not challenging then it's not helping.

lesbihonest · 20/05/2020 10:04

I’m still stuck at the 20 stone 10 mark . I can’t seem to get lower than that . Have tried cutting down my calories during the day, and walking a lot more - now managing 7/8000 steps on a good day, but finding it difficult to do any more .

Hoping to go for a decent walk later on today, and trying to do stuff in the house like stand up in the shower , do the dishes , do stuff in the garden . I feel off balance a lot and wondering if that’s because of my tummy fat pulling me forward iyswim !

Uptheduffy · 20/05/2020 21:21

Lesbihonest hope you got your walk. Walking is my favourite form of exercise and I've tried them all Grin When I can't get out I put one of those Walk at Home YouTube videos on for 15 minutes and do that. I must look like an eejit marching about in my living room but who cares Grin

chipshopElvis · 22/05/2020 09:10

I wonder if I can join you? Ive been hovering on the weightloss boards but mostly people seem to be trying to loose a couple of stone and I'm trying for 5.5 just to reach the top end of a healthy weight. I started at bmi 38 about 10 weeks ago and am down to bmi 34.5 now using mfp and a daily walk, cycling to work (not very far) twice a week. I'm flagging a bit now though. Am 5, 7" and currently 16 stone 10.

Bakewell79 · 23/05/2020 10:11

Morning all

How is everyone doing?

I weighed in yesterday morning and lost another 2lbs, takes me to 27lbs lost so far and BMI 43.7 down from 48.3, have tried to up exercise and going out for 3 mile walks every evening when it’s much quieter.

Still a long way to go and helps me refocus when reading the scary stories about BMI and the ‘rona virus!

How is everyone getting on?

MollyAtTheFolly · 23/05/2020 10:22

27lb is fantastic!

I started at BMI 36.5, am currently 34.3. I'm in the slightly bored stage where the fact that I don't suddenly look like a supermodel is irritating me Grin

On Week 9 of C25K and feeling pretty good about it. I'm running about 3+K in that 30 mins, I guess when I've finished Week 9 it'll be about actually trying to run 5K...

Bakewell79 · 23/05/2020 11:19

You have done amazingly well too Molly!

I totally know what you mean about the bored stage! I had a few days this week like that!

I still can’t actually ‘see’ the weight loss and usually that’s my downfall as I want instant results and when the weight loss slows I have fallen off and gone back to old habits in the past!

I’m seriously considering C25K, I know it will probably kill me but I bet it’s a real morale booster when you finish a week and move into the next.

Uptheduffy · 23/05/2020 11:27

I've finished three weeks now and lost 5lbs, nearly all in the first week! Feeling a bit pissed off about it, as it hasn't been easy sticking to the calories and getting more steps in. I have had two days in those three weeks when I ate more than my allowance, would that be enough to screw it up I wonder? Still, the way I was going I could have gained another stone in those three weeks so it's still a good job!

Bakewell79 · 23/05/2020 11:34

Uptheduffy my losses have been in fits and starts, 2lbs is a good week, I had my biggest losses in the first two weeks which is to be expected!

I find my menstrual cycle is playing havoc with my losses too, ovulation I can gain and the same around my period, not sure if my age is a factor too, I’m in my 40s now and sure I’m perimenopausal!

5lbs is still a fantastic loss, better off than on!

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 23/05/2020 12:14

I'm slightly intruding here because my highest BMI was 36 point something, and my BMI at the start of lockdown had gone down to 33. Today I reached BMI 29.9. I'm finding I can move much more easily already - going up and down stairs is so much easier and I've even managed to do build up my running to a (very slow) 5km which was unthinkable until recently, although I did manage to trip on my last run and fall face down in front of everyone sunbathing in the park Blush

So pleased to see everyone's achievements! Keep going. It's so boring and slow at times but it all adds up.

Uptheduffy · 23/05/2020 12:39

I know Bakewell you're right, it's a long game. It's just so nice to see regular movement on the scales!
Panic that's really positive. I already feel I've a bit more energy - not due to any loss but due to doing lots more exercise for three weeks!

chipshopElvis · 24/05/2020 09:52

Well done everyone. Panic, running is amazing!

Bakewell I have the same problem with menstruation, though not ovulation. I've gained 3lbs this week despite staying under calories, it makes me want to cry. It will come off next week, but is mighty depressing.

Also struggling with not looking any thinner yet, though clothes are a bit looser. I Feel as though the best part of a stone and a half off should make a lot more difference!

igivein · 25/05/2020 10:55

Hi Everyone

Not been here for a while and just having a catch-up read. You all seem to be doing really well - heading in the right direction.
I’ve lost just over a stone since the thread started, so 17st 13 now and bmi 39.8 - under the dreaded 40!

I’ve watched a couple of Jason Fung clips on YouTube and finding him really helpful. He explains the science behind fasting and low carb and shows why just reducing calories is bound to fail.
Check him out, his ideas are really helping me (he’s not trying to sign you up or get cash from you, his videos are mainly him speaking at medical conferences to other doctors).

Newbeginningforme · 25/05/2020 11:36

Since I started on 20th March I have lost 8.5 kilos and my BMI has gone from 43.9 to 40.6.

I am hoping to have a BMI under 40 within the next 4 weeks. Then will need to push on to get as far away from 40 as possible!

Have found calorie counting quite easy but am assuming the closer I get to a target weight the more I will need to look at what I am eating and adjust further.
