I'm now on day 3 of Slimfast and I'm starving!!!! I'm fine at work (only work mornings) but now I'm back home I just want to eat........ Does it get easier????

CloudyVanilla · 28/04/2020 13:08

I've found pushing through the first few days of any reduced calorie intake diet to be the hardest. Hunger seems to actively rage especially if you usually eat lots of sugar.

Hang on in there, it will pass and you will adjust! I'm on day 26 of reducing to 1800 cals a day and cutting out added sugar. The first few days were almost impossible to get through and I had 2 set backs in the first week but I'm now here, have lost 9 pounds and it's got much easier.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 28/04/2020 13:32

I'd reccomend Leslie Sansone's various walking workouts @Rover83 and anyone else who's not ready for C25K yet. She's got lots of them on YouTube and I think there is a free app too.

I've tried C25K before but could not get past week 5. I might give it another go when I am a bit lighter. The extra weight really does make it much harder work!

Ponoka7 · 28/04/2020 13:38

@ladylunchalot, i do Exante and the first four days are the hardest.

When this virus first became known, i comfort ate, but now I'm back doing a combination of Exante and calorie counting. My BMI was around 38. I usually use Boot's scales, so I'm going to go by my clothes.

ladylunchalot · 28/04/2020 14:21

Thanks, nice to hear it's not just me. I ended up having beans on toast for lunch so still relatively healthy.

Ponoka7 · 28/04/2020 14:58

ladylunchalot, try to move towards protein and away from refined carbs, you get less hunger spikes.

ladylunchalot · 28/04/2020 15:37

Ponoka thanks for that, anything to stave off the hunger!

monkeytennis97 · 28/04/2020 16:24

Been doing this 6 weeks now- lost 18lbs in total. BMI gone from 42 to 38.8... getting there....

LeahWo · 28/04/2020 18:37

Hi, I recently started using an app called Nutracheck, its been brilliant for me.

bigsnugglebunny · 28/04/2020 20:39

Hello, please can I join? My bmi is v.high - 50+ and I am working on it (and have been for a while so I can get it down enough for an operation that I need.) I started changing my lifestyle in mid-2018 and I had scales that showed an error when I used them because I was too heavy and after 6 months of work, they started weighing me - and now I'm 3 stone under the max limit they weigh. So I've definitely made progress.

Lately though, and particularly the last three months - I have slipped into bad habits and stalled my weight loss - I'm terrified, really, really frightened about the covid/obesity risk. I have anxiety issues anyway and the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster.

I've gone back to slimming world, started again last Friday but I'm so worried about it being too little too late so I could really use some support.

monkeytennis97 · 28/04/2020 20:44

@LeahWo I'm on Nutracheck too! Totally recommend 😊

Fatloser1 · 29/04/2020 07:16

Good morning everyone,
How are you all? Monkeytennis, that is amazing. You are doing so well. As in everyone who is trying to make positive changes. It is so easy to slip into old unhealthy habits, however, you can stop those old habits today. That's the great thing. It's a new day and a new start.

I'm devastated this morning. I've stepped on the scales for a cheeky mid week weigh in and since Sunday, so three days, I've somehow managed to gain 4lbs 1/4. I can't believe it and I'm so sad. I'm really miserable about it.
Snugglebunny, it is never too little too late. You have started and you can't go anywhere without starting.

LeahWo · 29/04/2020 07:49

@Fatloser1, the midweek weigh in, that could be just your daily/weekly weight fluctuations which are normal, or even muscle build up, but regardless, it's not the end of the world, and can be lost again if it is actual weight gain.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 29/04/2020 08:12

I agree with LeahWo @Fatloser1, it could be your weight fluctuating. It's especially likely if you're due you your period, but can happen anyway. Also I don't know what your scales are like but a lot of people don't have brilliant scales which can lead to fluctuations.

And what time of day are you weighing yourself? In the morning after you've been to the loo but before you've eaten or drunk anything will give you the most consistent results.

Having said that, even if you weigh at that same time it can still fluctuate massively. I'm doing SlimmingWorld which encourages you to record your weekly weight so on Monday I was only 0.2 pounds less than I was the previous Monday, but on Tuesday yesterday I'd dropped over another pound in a single day. This is why I prefer to weigh myself daily (even if I am only recording my Monday morning weight in the Slimming World app£ so I get used to the way it fluctuates, but do whatever will drive you least crazy!

Fatloser1 · 29/04/2020 08:20

Thank you for replying. That feels very supportive unlike my usual of standing in the kitchen eating a spoonful of Nutella and thinking about how miserable I am.

I've made a plan for today and I'm going to stick to it. I looked out my sw books and I've written my food plan for today. I've also planned a walk and looked out my crochet so when I do want to snack I'll brush my teeth and quickly crochet 5 lines.

I think that's all we can do, is start with today.

Does anyone else have a plan for today?

We can do this together. I'm off to figure out how to change my user name. It's very negative.

Thank you.

Bakewell79 · 29/04/2020 09:37

Morning everyone

Another couple of pounds off today, just need a little push to get into the next stone bracket, BMI reading at 44.7 at the mo so still a long way to go....

I’m walking every day, off out again later to get my steps in!

Everyone is doing amazing and this little chat is so supportive Smile

Bakewell79 · 29/04/2020 09:40

@Fatloser1 I meant to say my weight fluctuates something terrible during the week, I can easily put in a few lbs but it then disappears a day or so later. If I don’t drink enough water it impacts and ovulation/time of the month plays havoc with me!

Keep going!

SillyCow6 · 29/04/2020 11:40

Hi, can I join too? Bmi of 49.1, which I worked out yesterday after reading this thread. I thought my bmi was in the low 40s so that was a bit of a shock! I am 314lbs so my first goal is to get under 300lbs. I am thinking of rejoining slimming world, although with no work now I am going to try it alone to begin with. I cant really remember too many of the rules apart from a third speed food at each meal, so I'll do it loosely, as much as I can remember along with cutting right down on junk and walking

Well done everyone on the losses so far!

YinuCeatleAyru · 29/04/2020 13:39

I've lost a stone and a half since the start of the lockdown and have been doing daily exercise and have noticed that climbing the stairs is now so much easier! while this is great, it does mean that my muscles are doing a lot less work now to move me around compared to a few weeks ago, so I have bought some ankle and wrist weights to wear during exercise to ensure my muscles still get to do the same amount of work.

buckeejit · 29/04/2020 13:58

@YinuCeatleAyru that's a great idea, will think of that when I get to losing some for building muscle mass.

@bigsnugglebunny & @SillyCow6 I've just started this on Monday - well Sunday but then it went wrong so Monday. I am also disappointed that after 2 good days there is no loss showing in my scales - I won't be able to help check but will be largely ignoring what they say until I've completed a full week. Planning to weigh on a Sunday morning so that Saturday evening doesn't get too crazy with wine & crisps!

I have to say the time is going so slowly without wine & junk food but just getting used to the new regime I guess.

I've been out for a walk for half an hour this morning. I could really do with doing another walk early evening to get my steps in but I've been sticking rigidly to the rules & would be worried about being shamed for being out twice! Blush

Rover83 · 29/04/2020 14:49

You're all doing so well.

I avoided the kids food yesterday, no crisps or chocolate all day, although I drunk a few extra cups of tea. Cooked chickpea and tomato curry for dinner, we even made shortbread biscuits and I had 1 with my cup of tea and that was it. I did 2 Joe Wicks senior work outs yesterday and another 2 today so at least I'm doing something active.

monkeytennis97 · 29/04/2020 15:43

Well done everyone! Those of you just joining, welcome! In the last few days I've upped my exercise to try and burn around 800 cals a day with eating around 1500-1600. @YinuCeatleAyru you have done amazingly! Wow!

monkeytennis97 · 29/04/2020 15:44

So far today...

Anyone with 40+ BMI want support to loose weight during lockdown ?
Fatloser1 · 30/04/2020 07:21

Morning, how are you all? Well done everyone for your fantastic dedication and determination. You are certainly inspiring me to stick to plan. Although I don't know what is going on.
Yesterday I completely stuck to plan. I stayed under 1100 calories and I didn't eat a thing after 6.30pm. This morning, I kid you not, I'm 1.5lbs heavier than yesterday! How!? I could weep. Since Sunday I have somehow managed to gain 5lbs3/4 surely that is impossible. I know people say this but I really mean it, I've written everything down and utterly stuck to plan. I've been drinking plenty of water. 1.5lbs heavier than yesterday and 5lbs 3/4 since Sunday. I have completely stuck to it. I'm so sad this morning.

YinuCeatleAyru · 30/04/2020 07:31

I am finding that weighing myself every 3 days is working best for me. I know its over-obsessive and unhelpful to measure daily because of normal fluctuations, but weekly is too far apart for me. measuring every 3 days is far enough apart to see definite progress and close enough together that I can remember broadly how much I have eaten and how much exercise I have done since the last weigh. this seems to be the best combination to keep my motivation going.

this morning I am only down 0.4kg since 3 days ago which I know isn't too bad but it's a bit disappointing as the difference is often more like 0.8kg or more. but my walks have been shorter in the past few days because of the rain, and I definitely went over my normal calories yesterday
(tried to persuade autistic DS to try a different brand of pizza to the one he normally eats that I can't get hold of - he has a very restricted diet and is very underweight, when I finally gave up I ate a slice (one eighth) myself. the rest has gone into the freezer for an occasional treat.)
