Height. 5Ft 5
Weight. 17st 3lbs

Can I join? I'm not actually sure what my weight was before all this- but I was so anxious I barely ate for a solid week!
Today:
Weight: 16st 12lbs
Height: 5"7
BMI: 38.

First goal is to get to 16st, which I believe is manageable.
Long term goal is to be around 14 and then reassess.

RU562341 · 04/04/2020 21:12

Got to say, I haven't been snacking at all as no snacks in the house! I do have to go shopping at some point soon, but just for essentials really. I will try to avoid the chocolate aisle...

SFCA · 04/04/2020 21:32

Well Done Everyone!

On the 1st of January my BM1 was 43. I have two young children both with significant health needs and was full of fear that I might not be around to look after them if I didn’t sort myself out!

My BMI is now 35. I am self isolating with my DCs for 12 weeks as they are both shielded and in that time I really want to bring it down to 31.

I have not counted calories or anything but I haven’t eaten: cake, biscuit, crisps, chocolate, takeaways or bread at all and only a little cheese each day. I have still had pasta, potato or rice with most meals.

I still have a long way to go. If I stop losing weight I may look into a more conventional ‘diet’ but at the moment moving more and not eating rubbish seems to be enough. I have also noticed that I am eating less than I was in January, I think it is a mixture of being more conscious about what I am eating and eating more filling foods.

I completely agree with others about getting disheartened that the weight feels like it comes off slowly when you are being so good! I also know that I have lost 3.5 stone so far and would have been at least 1 stone heavier than my starting weight if I hadn’t changed my ways so it is worth it.

Hippywannabe · 04/04/2020 21:38

I will join too. 31st Jan 18stone 3 1/2lbs
31st March 16 stone 1 1/2lbs.
(I was very poorly for 3 weeks in February-convinced I had a version of Covid).
Carried on with healthy eating until, last Tuesday when I ate cake for the first time in 2 months. It has ruined me! Non stop grazing and binging on carbs and chocolate.
Pulling it back tomorrow!

Belindabelle · 04/04/2020 22:03

I am joining in too. No idea what I weigh at the moment. I will stand on the scales of doom in the morning.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/04/2020 22:08

Yip, but, I don't want to weigh because I eat if I lose weight to celebrate, and I eat if I gain to commiserate.

Can I just count my activity levels and NSV?

I walked 12k steps today. Quite achey now. Had a nice time, though, really enjoyed it.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 04/04/2020 22:08

I'd like to join.

Horrific. I haven't left the house in 2 weeks as I'm so terrified. Got 2 tubs of slim fast so I'm going to start that tomorrow, plus 30 mins on the exercise bike.

Let's all stick together and do this!!!

RU562341 · 05/04/2020 14:23

Went to the shops today. It's actually helpful being mindful of not being out long- I didn't grab any chocolate, cake or biscuits!
Another week of better eating done!

RU562341 · 05/04/2020 14:24

Also been walking to work (1 mile or so) since lockdown started- too scared to get the bus! That has to help.

tupperwaretowers · 05/04/2020 14:28

I can recommend Weightwatchers. In the absence of actual real life classes they are doing group video sessions which are a massive help and social support too. Try looking one up in your area. I’ve been overweight all my adult life, finally got my head in gear with WW and lost nearly 2.5 stones this year which I’m amazed at. You can do this. X

Heismyopendoor · 05/04/2020 14:46

I’d love to join in. I don’t have scales any more so don’t know my exact weight, but it’s too bloody much! I’m wearing a 16/18, if I’m honest it’s more often an 18 than a 16. I’m very short, just under 5ft so I should weigh almost nothing 😂😂

I’ve been working out at home six times a week. I have a bike at home so using that for six times and then three times I will do weights too.

Food wise, I’m not doing anything in particular as I find I get so controlling and obsessive about what I can’t have. I’m just sticking to more of a wholefood plant based diet, eating lots of good healthy foods, the daily dozen app is quite good with what to eat.

I feel like this is a good time to work on ourselves. In particular I can’t just go and get a McDonald’s or kfc, pop to the shops for crisps or ice cream etc. I’m not rushing about so mad everywhere as well which gives me a bit more time to cook and work out.

CloudyVanilla · 05/04/2020 14:51

I'd love to join :)

I gave birth in January, had Christmas on maternity leave in the house all day with Christmas food and had a few issues which led me being hospitalised towards the end of pregnancy which made me even more sedentary and even more anxious so comfort ate.

I can't believe it but BMI is now 43 :( This thread comes at a great time as I finally just had a light switch moment and for he last 3 days have really changed my eating habits.

I have cut out sugar and refined carbs. I'm hugely upping my protein intake and bulking out what I eat with plenty of veg and fruit. I'm surprised how big my plates of food still are and how full I am eating like this!

I'm also doing a mild type of intermittent fasting by making sure I finish eating by 4pm at the latest. This has apparently been shown in small studies to have health benefits and help curb appetite and it is working so far for me.

Basically everything I've done this time is quite radically different from any diet attempts I've made before. I'm ignoring cardio altogether and focusing on weight and strength straining.

Like others here I've got young children and really wish to get healthier. I'm still in my twenties but I'm not in my early twenties anymore and I realise I could easily end up turning 30 and still being overweight. It would be great to have support from like minded women!

YinuCeatleAyru · 05/04/2020 14:59

hello. I joined a different support thread over here but happy to be on more than one thread about this.

BMI was nearly 42. now 2 weeks in to much lower calorie eating and daily exercise. think I might be nearly down to 41ish or only just over already. currently focusing on getting below 40 asap but will try to continue this long term and eventually get under 30 - that will take a while though.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 05/04/2020 15:05

Well done SFCA and Hippywannabe - that must have been hard work! And well done to all those other people on here who have started to make changes or are about to.

I started Week 2 of C25K today. My fear now is a stricter lockdown! At least I have a small garden so I can do the 5 zillion laps of that that will keep the progress going. I didn't know there was a Joe Wicks for seniors - thanks PP! - so I'll try that. The one for schoolkids damn near killed me Grin

Heismyopendoor · 05/04/2020 18:38

@PhysaliaPhysalis well done on getting to week two! I wish I could run, I’m so bad at it and have flat feet which doesn’t help much 😂

@YinuCeatleAyru congrats on lowering your bmi.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 05/04/2020 18:44

I’d love be to join too! I’m a size 18, but don’t know my weight. I’m about 5ft5.
I want to do couch to 5k, but I’m worried it’ll be too much for me😳.

Cutting portion sizes seems to work for me & I think I might do the fast diet again. It worked quite well last year, but then I just got complacent.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/04/2020 12:05

I'm aiming to do C25K too, Corner.

I reckon if I walk 10k steps daily for 3 weeks I'll be nearly fit enough to start.

I downloaded a step tracking app which also tracks the numbers of stairs you climb and that sort of thing. Quite motivating. I'm tired today, a nd a bit sad, so what I WANT to do is sit down and eat. I've got a lot to do today too, so, I'm going to have a healthy lunch, get some work done (computer based, so not ideal) , and then go for a yomp.

I absolutely won't sit and eat all afternoon. Not today!

Fluffykitten23 · 06/04/2020 12:18

Hi everyone
I have been dieting since march and have lost 1 stone 3lbs or 13 pounds as my scales keep alternating the last couple days. I've lost faith in them now can anyone recommend a scale that is accurate. The one I had is weight watchers but are like 6 yrs old. Thanks all

bedtimebrew · 06/04/2020 13:16

That's amazing @Fluffykitten23 any tips?

anonname · 06/04/2020 13:23

I’ve managed a walk this morning, so that feels positive . Wasn’t as long a walk as I’d have liked but my anxiety is taking over . Managed 1km which did feel good .

EasterBuns · 06/04/2020 13:26

Fluffykitten I would just take the current scales with a pinch of salt and weigh once a week max. Another way to measure weight loss is to use a tape measure and write down waist, hips, bust and thigh measurements. This works better if you are doing extra exercise as whilst muscle weighs more than fat it is healthier and smaller.

NettleTea · 06/04/2020 13:33

I am not BMI 40+ but had been on exante prior to this all kicking off and was a (slow) 1 1/2 stone down

However Im really not sure about the wisdom of drastically restricting calories at a time when you want to be in good shape to counter fighting a potential virus.

So what I am doing is addressing eating healthier foods, and exercising more. Cutting out processed stuff as much as possible. Cutting out sugar.

The extreme low calorie can wait. Now is not a time to be having your body in starvation mode.

Do countries with high obesity levels suffer more coronavirus fatalities? Italy is the second skinniest of our watched group, so no.

The only European countries with a fatter populace than the UK are Malta and Hungary. Malta has reported no covid deaths; Hungary's deaths per million rate is 3.

Anyone with 40+ BMI want support to loose weight during lockdown ?
Fluffykitten23 · 06/04/2020 13:34

Bedtimebrew thank you. I eat a apple for breakfast and apple lunch and salad up to two hundred and 50 calories dinner. Lots of tea though not sure if that's bad or how many calories are in a cup of tea. One hour of walking dog a day. Not saying it's healthy but works for quick weightless. If you cheat a day will go back up a little but just move on and start again. Reintroduce all foods slowly after diet and increase exercise to maintain weightless. If your in bed hungry know ur body will eat fat while you sleep and your apple is waiting in the morning 😂. Don't do it if you are tiny though I am 14.7 stone my body can afford to eat fat xx

NettleTea · 06/04/2020 13:35

Im not saying dont diet though!
Im saying be sensible. Dont beat yourself up
Dont give yourself the fear.
Eat healthy food, eat healthy portions and get some exercise
DONT starve yourself

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 06/04/2020 16:32

My BMI's too low to join you but I will be cheering you all on. I believe I you :)

I'm down from a BMI of 33 (3 weeks ago) to 31.6 today - just over half a stone lost. I'm doing Slimming World online which was a massive failure for me last time but seems to be working now so I'd cautiously recommend giving it a go if anyone fancies it. I find I need quite a lot of motivation to stick to a diet, but this virus is definitely making me want to drop the weight. I'm hoping to get out of the obese category by the end of May (another 10lb to go) and looking forward to just being plain old "overweight".
