It's funny but I'd really celebrate being plain old overweight! So I weighed myself today and I've half a pound since Friday, I have just been doing smaller plate sizes three times a day so I guess this was never going to be fast for me, despite my love of fast results, I think I will tweak it a bit though and try and be mindful of the calorific value of what I'm actually eating. My next weigh in will be Friday.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 06/04/2020 16:38

I've lost faith in them now can anyone recommend a scale that is accurate.

I love my Fitbit Aria scales but they are very pricey (£50). They automatically sync up with my Fitbit app and I can see how my weight and body fat has changed over time.

I used to use one of these Weight Watchers ones though and they were pretty good for the price

I will join. I weighed this morning and am 17stone 4. I ordered some slim fast shakes to get me started and they've just been delivered.

NeverGuessWho · 06/04/2020 17:58

Great idea @PonyosGreenBucket!

Can I join please?

Will get weighed in the morning & post my vital statistics 😬😳.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 06/04/2020 21:42

Fab to see so many people making steps forward, no matter how tiny Smile

I feel a bit crap after making chicken satay for dinner (DH bought peanut butter in Aldi, nobody liked it and the jar's been sitting looking hurt at its lack of use...), but actually, I'd have done that before anyway, plus had a load of crap in the evening, so baby steps!

I'm going to keep it at limited snacks (olives or fruit only, and not every day) for another week, then I think it's portion size I'll try to change next.

Keep it up everyone!

Heismyopendoor · 07/04/2020 15:28

Two workouts done this week :) many more to go 😂

bumblingbovine49 · 07/04/2020 15:50

I have come down from a bmi of 42 last summer to 36.6 at the moment. I lost most of the weight in about 6 weeks from July to August 2019. My aim after that was to maintain my modest weight loss for at least 6 months . I did this and even lost a few lbs including over Christmas. If it wasn't for Covid 19 my plan was to try another 4-6 weeks of a strictish diet in Feb/March and then maintain whatever weight loss I made during that time for another 6 months

Covid 19 has changed that a bit now. My aim is to now bring my bmi down to under 35 by losing 10-12 lbs in the next 2-3 months. Still not massively down but further from morbidly obese. I have also started regular exercise (Youtube videos), 30mins 6 times a week.

If I am still around then, I will aim to reduce my bmi to 'overweight' by the end of the summer ie - below bmi 30.

That is where I plan to remain as I know full well that getting my bmi under 25 is a fools errand for me I have managed it a couple of times in my life and never maintained it more than for a few weeks

I think I would be able to maintain an 'overweight' bmi , which is my aim

YinuCeatleAyru · 09/04/2020 19:58

calculated my BMI now 40.7 (having started around 42ish) today, and also today while going for my daily walk for exercise my jeans kept falling half way down my bum and needing to be hoiked back up again in a most inelegant way. think I may be able to creep below 40 in another 10 days or so if I can keep this up. but I know it's normal to plateau with weight loss after a bit. what then?

i agree with you @bumblingbovine49 it's ok to settle for an "overweight" bmi - I can't honestly see myself getting down as far as 30 but even 35 will feel like a real achievement. thank you for sharing, good to know it is possible.

EasterBuns · 10/04/2020 13:19

Last time I was a healthy weight was over 20 years ago but I always felt happy with a bMI around 30. That only people I know who are a healthy weight at my age are quite obsessive about both food and exercise. Generally serious runners which is never going to be me.

MollyWindley · 10/04/2020 13:32

Weighed myself today - have put back the half pound I lost, so not a very happy bunny. Will continue onwards and am going to start weighing myself every day.....and am trying to remember what I did last time I lost weight which was about five years ago, had a GI diet book which I gave away to a friend, think I can remember the basics of it though.

EasterBuns · 11/04/2020 16:44

How is everybody getting on it’s quiet on here? Hope you’re not all eating hot cross buns and eater eggs! I’ve been doing well but tomorrow will be a challenge.

YinuCeatleAyru · 12/04/2020 03:47

I've told DH I don't want any chocolate egg. I have some chocolate left over from mothers day which I asked him to hide away, and I will ask him to release 50g of that for me as a one off treat.

yesterday's food diary was:
B - mini omelette with 4 mushrooms sauted in 1cal spray oil, and one egg, plus seasoning.
L: salad with steamed green beans, spring onions, tomatoes, spinach, poached beetroot, about 12g crumbled goats cheese and 3 walnut halves chopped.
Snack: 2 ryvita with pate and slices of red pepper
supper: small serving risotto (leftovers)
mini hot cross bun
1 shot single malt whiskey

all comes to about 1200 cals ish.
scales yesterday morning said 112.9kg which would put bmi about 40.2, but then said back over 113kg later in the day so not sure exactly (starting weight 117.5kg).

did a long walk to a green grocer to get more veg in, which was good exercise.

currently insomniac. happens once in a while. I usually self-worth by popping down for a bit of toast and honey and a glass of milk which helps me to get back to a sleepy frame of mind but obviously won't use that plan this time.

YinuCeatleAyru · 12/04/2020 03:53

self-worth was supposed to be self-soothe

PomBearsyummy · 12/04/2020 06:45

"Bedtimebrew thank you. I eat a apple for breakfast and apple lunch and salad up to two hundred and 50 calories dinner. Lots of tea though not sure if that's bad or how many calories are in a cup of tea. One hour of walking dog a day. Not saying it's healthy but works for quick weightless. If you cheat a day will go back up a little but just move on and start again. Reintroduce all foods slowly after diet and increase exercise to maintain weightless. If your in bed hungry know ur body will eat fat while you sleep and your apple is waiting in the morning 😂. Don't do it if you are tiny though I am 14.7 stone my body can afford to eat fat xx"

Please dear god nobody do this. It is extremely unhealthy and isnt going to do your immune system any good.

monkeytennis97 · 12/04/2020 07:04

Can I join...
I was BMI 42 at the start of the lockdown, now 40.1

Have been petrified about it all.

calpolatdawn · 12/04/2020 07:09

marking my place, i don't know my exact details, bmi definitely over 40 though, im in desperate need to loose weight and with lockdown im worried ill graze a few more stone on. gonna have to start a food diary i think.

Bringringbring12 · 12/04/2020 08:13

@PomBearsyummy

Agreed. It is bad on a number of levels and ultimately completely unsustainable. Likely would result in binges as well. This is not the time (actually never the time) for eating the minimum to sustain life!

frumpety · 12/04/2020 09:38

BMI of between 44 and 45 , can't currently weigh myself as the battery has run out in the scales ! But going to hazard a guess at about 20 stone, as weighed myself a month ago and don't feel I have put any extra on clothes wise.
Going to read the Blood sugar diet again and go through all the cook books I have for tweakable recipes and then meal plan a weeks worth of meals.
Biggest issues are:

  1. portion size - I can eat a huge amount in one sitting, rarely feel full after eating, eat quite quickly and usually when doing something else, like watching TV or being on the tablet or computer. So I am going to concentrate on what I am eating when I am eating it, with no distractions.
  2. Processed carbs are my downfall , sliced white , crumpets, muffins , hot cross buns, crisps, bread sticks etc. Will avoid these.
  3. Wine, there is no getting away from the fact that I drink far too much of the stuff and the amount I can comfortably drink has increased during lockdown. Will wean myself off the wine !
  4. Exercise can be very painful, I have a minor physical issue which can cause excruciating pain even when walking. So I am very fat and not in the least bit fit. However sitting actually makes the issue worse, so I need to put on my very big girl pants and take some pain relief and gently build up my exercise.

I would like to get to a BMI of 32ish by the end of the year and fit in a nice pair of size 16 jeans that I have in the wardrobe Smile

Ifeel1000yearsold · 12/04/2020 10:23

My BMI is 45. I’ve never admitted this even to myself. I need to change this. I’m going to join you all.

Ifeel1000yearsold · 12/04/2020 10:25

I need to lose 3.7 stone to get under 40 and I will do this as soon as I can in a safe manner

Goatymcgoaty · 12/04/2020 10:27

I’m down from BMI 40.4 to 38.9. That’s weighing myself first thing in the morning though. I suppose I could easily be BMI > 40 by the end of the day. Still, you gotta start somewhere.

I haven’t seen anything in the press where relatives have said that their nearest and dearest got lesser treatment due to BMI alone though. The papers would love that headline. So I’m taking heart in that.

MigginsMs · 12/04/2020 10:36

My BMI is 45. I’ve never admitted this even to myself. I need to change this. I’m going to join you all.

Hey same here. 2.5 stone to lose here to get to below 40, having lost 9 lb already. Been good with my walking but fell and injured both legs, both arms and my back yesterday which isn’t good :(

There are a number of nasty people on MN who seem to delight in telling us how we are is our own fault and we won’t get ventilators but there’s still a chance we won’t get it or if we do we will be fine. This has given me a kick up the butt for sure though.

Fluffykitten23 · 12/04/2020 11:21

For the couple people that have wanted to say what I'm doing is unhealthy I said that on my original post. But it is no more unhealthy than being obese so you need to get off your high horse. Also to say it will result in binges haven't binged yet. Lots of diets out there for 500 calories a day which make money. That's what mine equates to so not really going to die from it am I. Also TBH I've lost my job so am sticking to it so I don't eat from my childrens food supply with no financial help from their father so thought I'd turn it into a positive by calling it a diet joining a support network rather than sitting here crying about being poor. But judge away. Anyway I will unwatch the thread and not have support. I didn't reccomend it. My body my choice even if it's slightly forced at this time. Hope you all have a good journey and find happiness whatever your results are I'm just not up for being bashed everyone judges when they wouldn't even have the will power to do it themselves after losing their income. Not that I put that but for the record their are single mothers out their I know that live off toast as have no money. Take care to all the nice people who felt they didn't need to comment but just appreciate we all have different lives.

frumpety · 12/04/2020 11:47

MigginsMs ouch at the fall, hope you are OK ?

Ifeela1000yearsold soon and safely sounds like a good plan Smile

We can't do anything about yesterday's choices only today's and tomorrow's . Saw that written on the wall of a gym I went to once Grin

YinuCeatleAyru · 13/04/2020 22:34

I like that maxim @frumpety thank you.

today I have been a bit hungrier than usual and have probably eaten about 1300 calories. went on a 45 min walk and also did about 20mins aerobics with a YouTube video. there's quite a few gentle ones for the extremely unfit.
