YinuCeatleAyru gentle videos for the extremely unfit you say ? please share Smile

I have made a vow to go upstairs each time I forget something ( happens a lot !) and not shout up to a child to sling it down or send a child up the stairs to retrieve it for me. Small steps up the stairs Grin

I've used MFP for 7 days now. Not missed a single day. This is a record.

I also worked out that reducing 500kcals a day is not impossible. This is a revelation to me. 10k steps is about 300kcal for me (worked out with TDEE). Dropping 500kcals a day = 1lb weight loss a week. That's 4 stones in a year.

I am not weighing myself, I am trying to focus on my activity levels. Am really enjoying my daily walk - am still achey afterwards, but, I do seem to be settling into "get up and move".

I didn't post for a few days as I had nothing good to report! I weighed myself this morning and was horrified to see I've regained all the weight I lost last year - and in a much shorter time than it took to lose it. I'm hoping that increasing my fitness might be quicker than it was when I was just starting to go to gym etc. Had a 30 min walk today. All streets round here so it wasn't all that enjoyable, busier than I'd like too. Might try earlier next time. Good luck to every one for the rest of today.

It's interesting, Duffy, I do that too. I always regain what I lose, and it goes on about 10 times more quickly than it is lost!

I'm not any thinner. This is the point where I am likely to give up.

What are you doing today? Going for your early walk?

I definitely want to lose weight, if I get the c then I can't let it cripple me, have too many people relying on me

Can I join...... My BMI is not 40 but in the 30's. have gained weight on medication/depression/marriage break down/PTSD.
I have terrible knees so exercise is a challenge. I have spent time finding and saving different videos off YouTube so I can mix and match. Im aiming for 4 time a week to start.
I am using MFP which is really useful. Really makes me think twice about snacking. I am the ultimate comfort eater and the shit I have been eating is shameful really.
I am so tired of feeling so much self hatred towards myself. Like a previous poster if I dont see instant results I give up but I just MUST do something about this now. My DD is with me in lockdown and it makes me feel worse seeing her working out and how amazing she looks.
@vivariumvivariumsvivaria I am EXACTLY the same!

regaining what you lose is normal if you think of yourself as "going on a diet" when you are trying to lose weight and then go back to "eating normally" ie eating the same amount that used to keep you at a steady non-increasing weight when you were fatter. when you have excess fat, your body creates structures to hold that fat which may empty out when you lose weight but they don't disappear. when your food intake increases, your metabolism is evolved to use the opportunity to replenish fat reserves ready for helping you to survive through the next famine. the human body is evolved to survive in scarcity with lean winters where there isn't much to eat and plentiful summers where it is important to pile on the pounds so as to have fat reserves to live on.

only a permanent change in eating patterns will keep the weight off - redefining "normal". that's why it's really important to choose a weight loss plan that is sustainable and doesn't leave you ravenous all the time, but which helps you tolerate and ignore the feeling of being "a bit peckish" because if we feel totally full and replete after every meal all year around we are definitely eating far too much.

I think I regained as part of my weight loss was a lot of exercise - going to the gym, running. I then had Christmas Envy and since the new year have had one illness after the other, including a flu type thing that knocked me out of sorts for a month - so no/minimal exercise, so the healthy eating/exercise association I had built up broke down and I ate and ate. When miserable I will binge in the evening, I can do really well up till that point. Yesterday was a good day though.
@vivariumvivariumsvivaria morning to you, I don't want to go out every day though if one of my dc wants a walk I will go with them - planning to do a YouTube walking exercise video and maybe a short run on my mini trampoline Smile

I think my problem, Yinu, is that I use food to manage my mood.

I'm sad/anxious/worried I eat. I also eat to celebrate. Whatever my mood or situation, I will find a way to stuff my face.

It's really hard to change your automatic self soothing mechanism. It's 30 years of coping that I need to re-programme. Really, I think the key is being a bit more kind to myself. It's hard to do.

Have just tipped into the 30s with my BMI... lost 1 stone 1lb since March 16th.... increasing my exercise too - for the first week I was doing about 20 minutes a day on the treadmill then 40 minutes a day for the next two weeks and now over an hour a day walking briskly on it. C'mon everyone we can do this!!

They've moved the goalposts now - they (I can't remember who - probably The Fail) say it's people with a BMI over 30 😱 that are at risk.

I wish I had a treadmill (or room for one) it would make the walking a lot easier.
I have looked at folding bikes though which are cheaper (and smaller) than treadmills.
Never thought I'd miss access to a gym so much!

What % of the adult population has a BMI over 30? I would imagine it's more than 50% but I could be wrong...

Report
monkeytennis97 · 16/04/2020 21:09

Just googled.. apparently 31%... oh well all we can do is keep on going. Have done 1hr 20 on treadmills today and walked up and down my stairs 30 times...

Oh, dammit.

I've been feeling very sad for a few days, isolation and news of people I know dying from corona. So, I've eaten like the Very Hungry Caterpillar...just worked out a guesstimate of how many calories I've enjoyed over the last three days, and I've eaten everything I've exercised off last week.

This is what I do. Commit, succeed - and self destruct.

The key to me losing weight, or, at least, not putting on more weight, is not kiboshing it at weekends.

Not got a clue about how to actually DO that, it's such a habit it's mostly done mindlessly.

Ugh.

Climbing back on the wagon today.

I’m in. 5ft 6, 19st bmi 42.7.
I’ve lost 5 or 6 stones three times and put it all back on, and now I’m post menopause it’s a million times harder, but it’s got to be done.
I’m intermittent fasting (lost nearly a stone so far since I’ve been working from home - so four and a half weeks).
Really anxious about catching the virus, feel stupid for letting myself get in this state. Being worried and anxious would normally be a recipe for eating myself into a stupor, but I’ve got to get a grip.
