Well done green fairy. I've put off having a drink until now but have a zoom call with girls at 8.30 & will want some. Am going to try going to bed a bit earlier & read which means I will have 2 glasses of wine which I will limit myself to. Have only done 5k steps today as was feeling so paranoid about sore throat this morn I didn't want to go for a walk. Will aim for better tomorrow.

I agree about not telling anyone-the conversations are so dull & rather patronising. I'm going to make a list of meals & snacks that I can have & will have to eat mostly separately from rest of family which is fine right now. I will have dh amazing home made pizza & nice things- just not as much.

Anyone got any low cal meals/snack suggestions? I love pickled onions & pickled beetroot but often forget about them. Also I like something biscuity with a cup of tea & find a pink & white with a thin smear of peanut butter is a good substitute for about 50 cals.

Haven't made it for ages but sugar free jelly made with yogurt is nice.

Is anyone else with a BMI of 40+ being advised to very strictly isolate ? GP basically said this yesterday - said there’s not much help they can give anyone with a BMI of eg 40 in ITU, cut off mark is typically 35 for certain treatments .

My BMI is 42, I’d need to lose about 6 stone minimum to get to 35 .

GP didn’t say shielding but said - even if others can do so - I can’t see family, friends, shop for anything at all (need to always ask others instead), work, leisure, chemist, hairdresser . Possibly for months depending on what happens . How do I cope with that ?

I’ve no other health issues - BP normal, no diabetes, no asthma, no heart disease, I’m just fat . I’m not even 30 ... I’m supposed to be going back to uni when this is all sorted to train as an AHP 😟

I'm not bmi 40, but bmi 35 - mind if I join the thread? This has given me a real kick up the bum to do something. I did about 3 days of slimfast but that wasn't going to be sustainable. I've switched to ww. I'm down 5lbs (2 of those from a week of ww) in total so far and really want to tuck into the sweets and gin but won't.

Oh and I have asthma so even though not 40, my high bmi together with that is not great.

Gutted1234, i certainly have not heard that! I’m pretty sure there are people 40+ BMI that are still working, whether classed as essential workers or not!

I have read a few threads were people have been talking about icu and being severely obese, there are some nurses that have said they treat all sizes.

It’s a really worrying time but I’m holding onto the fact that most people recover and we are not guaranteed to get it.

Bakewell that’s what’s confused me too - vg friend is a chemo nurse - she is at least a size 28/30 and very big . Have worked in same hospital - countless nurses and porters etc who were overweight ...

Have friends as well who work for the NHS with eg colitis, crohns, pretty bad asthma, MS ... surely to goodness they can’t have sent them all home and told them they can’t work? If they applied the vulnerable flu jab thing then that’s what, a very sizeable group of people that can’t do a single thing except go for a short walk - for months? That makes no sense to me at all . GP said it applies to anyone with any health condition from any form of asthma, any form of learning difficulty eg autism, right through to end stage cancer, they all have to very strictly isolate together and I’m sure she has that somewhat wrong . I really hope so, I can’t bear the thought of not seeing another human for months and months on end . Like solitary confinement . Hell .

Bakewell79 · 26/04/2020 08:22

@Gutted1234 Sounds like the GP could have handled this situation abit better!

It does seem like those who are offered the flu jab have all been put into the higher risk category but from what I have read and heard we don’t have to shield just be cautious with the social distancing/ hand washing etc. Just to add I’m over a 40 BMI and never been offered a flu jab!

My husband is furloughed now but one chap he works with is over 30 stones, he is still working and I’m sure there are thousands more sound the same thing.

It’s hard but try not to worry, keep your chin up and this shall soon pass xx

Good morning am I okay to join this thread? When we went in to isolation a week before lockdown I was 20st 4lb and a bmi of 48.1 I am not 18st 13 and a bmi of 44.1. I still have a long way to go but I’m feeling positive I’m going in the right direction. My first goal is 17 stone. That will take me to a bmi of 39.6.
It’s still huge but psychologically I will be under the 40bmi and I know I will feel better for it.

I know I need to try ,I have bought exercise equipment, but that was difficult because they don’t have high weight limits
My problems are I think I should be thin after 1 week of dieting ,so give up...I’ve a huge family to feed ,and end up eating the meals they want ,when it’s not what I need .
Depression is a bitch ..pringles are my Prozac
I’m trying to diet during this lockdown ,but dieting turns me in to a bitch

Losing weight is like investing in a pension - if you tried to cash it in after one week what would you have? Very little. If you change your eating and activity habits the changes might not be instant, but they are still happening and when you get to four to six weeks they start to appear. There is a period when you don't see the benefits.

Can I please join in? My bmi is 46.7!!!! Omg, didn't think it was as high as that until I worked it out there on the NHS site. I'm pretty fit, do taekwondo several times a week and was going to the gym several times a week before lock down. Had lost 10kg from last year but have put on half of that.
I'm still at work (NHS admin job) and am trying to do my taekwondo classes online and some circuits in the garden. Have started on Slimfast today to try and get a boost to lose some weight as my grazing has got out of control. Feeling v stressed with still working, dh shielding and home schooling dd and ds. Dd (13)is fine and gets on with it but ds (11) has autism and epilepsy and is finding the change of routine v hard. Oh and also lost a dear friend to covid at the start of the week, still reeling from it as she was only 41.

Sorry for your loss @ladylunchalot it's unbelievable so many younger people are dying.

@Slazengerbag wow, you've done amazingly well. Kudos to you.

I'm thinking once a week of healthier habits is done it gets easier.

@Kickanxietyinthebeanbag I'm similar to you that I stress drink & day, (also for every other emotion) but fear is an excellent motivator & the thought that I might be too fat to save is not fair on my children if I can do something about it.

My targets are mostly healthier eating without calories counting for now & going to bed by about 9.30pm - my trigger hour is 8-9pm so if I can avoid a glass of wine during that hour, I won't snack so much. Still allow some weekend treats. I managed 2 glasses of wine last night & will aim for the same tonight. Theoretically I should be able to lose at least 5lb in my first week but exercise is a challenge.

Can anyone recommend an easyish youtube workout that I am more likely to stick to?

So far today have had a cookie with tea, apple & omelette & salad for lunch. I know the cookie is bad & wasn't worth it but would normally have 3 on a Sunday morn. I think 1.5 stone loss would get me to 35BMI.

I like the pension analogy - going to keep that in mind. Similar reasoning is that eating crap now is stealing time from your future healthy self.

Any other hints & tips appreciated. Glad to have somewhere to be accountable to

I yo yo with my weight used to goto gym thinking that was fine used to play rugby had a bmi of 35

But it was down to eating , so gave my self a goal to lose 2 and half stone in a year And half

Started doing circuit training at the gym on a morning and the teacher was hardcore and some super fit people in the class , then started watching his instergram stuff and it home it’s all about life style choices

Fast forward a year and half and lost it , I found not to worry about losing weight ever6 week but to set realistic goals and still enjoy takeaways food out but get healthy options

How is everyone doing today?

I lost 2lbs this week. It is a lot less than I'm used to in the past but this is a lifestyle change not a quick fix.

I've planned my lunch and dinner for the week and I'll stick to it. It is the picking and snacking in between that is the problem.

Hope you all feel motivated for a positive week ahead of healthy choices.

Hiya I haven't lost anything much in the last week (about half a lb) which has been a bit annoying as sticking to around 1500 cals a day and doing at least 300 cals of exercise a day. Will keep on going though...Smile

I’m going to try ,from today .yesterday my exercise bike arrived to go next to my rowing machine .there is no excuse not to use them.i was going to the gym ,but I’d not lost any weight in the past year .
Every time in the past that I’ve ever lost weight it’s because I’ve starved myself..then as soon as I eat again it goes back on very quickly .
I can’t imagine loosing weight on 1500 calories,it’s just never happened for me.i think I’ve really screwed up my metabolism over the years.plus I’ve had bulimia for most of my adult life .
I hate myself for getting this fat ,I don’t even feel like me ,

Can I join please? I'm currently 20st 3lb and 5ft 10 which gives me a BMI of 40.6. I've always been fat, although I lost 6 stone 8 years ago getting me down to 15 stone which was the lowest I remember being as an adult but I've managed to regain almost all that weight now.

In really struggling with lockdown as my DH and I are both keyworkers and our preschool is shut even to keyworkers. We are working opposite each other so someone is always home with our 3 and 4 year olds, I used to do a small amount of walking to drop and collect the girls from preschool or go to groups in the village. My girls really struggle to understand the social distance rules and constantly run up to people when we go out so I dont get out for a walk much and if I do it's a quick one till someone is bored!

I tried to start couch to 5k but nearly died half way through the first session. I need to find some easy to follow exercise routines I can do from home with the kids. Lockdown has also made me super lazy as it's so easy just to sit on the sofa all day while the kids run around.

Well done fatloser1. I lost 2lb but that’s is only 2 of the 7lbs I’ve put on in lockdown so nothing much.
I feel I’m in a better positive place this week and really want to try and do this. So many excuses! I’d really like to see how much I could shift if I had a healthy week. I’m not buying any junk now just too tempting.
Keep it up all!!

Hello, I'd like to join too. I started out in lockdown at 17stones 10 and I'm now 17.1.

My aim is to focus on getting into the next stones bracket so I'm very keen to lose another couple of lbs.

From not exercising AT ALL, I am now exercising every day with the DC. Bike rides, Couch to 5k and long walks. I am on week 4 of Couch to 5k and although I had to repeat a week, I am managing it which was impossible to imagine in week 1.

I'm using this lockdown as a chance to get my very disordered eating under control so I am focusing on that before I cut the calories on what I'm actually eating. So before I would skip dinner because 'I wasn't hungry' but then eat two bowls of cereal and a packet of biscuits in front of the television. I am now eating three proper meals a day. I have had various baked goods (thanks DD) and chocolate eggs etc but I'm trying to not worry about that and to focus on improving rather than perfection.

I can also tell everyone that the exercise is now the highlight of my day and in 5 weeks of nearly daily exercise I already feel much fitter. It also makes me more reluctant to snack as I know how hard I've been finding couch to 5k.

Also thanks to whoever recommended the Joe wicks for seniors. We've done two already this morning, they are great as they are only 10 minutes so the kids dont get too annoyed and I can manage 10 min bursts of exercise!

@Kickanxietyinthebeanbag go easy on yourself, you have extra on your plate so make sure you have extra support.

I have gone for a solo walk this morn, it was bliss so up to 7k steps for today. I logged my food on mfp yest for the first time ever & it was a bit of an eye opener! I've only done slimming world before where most healthy food is 'free' but the extra accountability should help me & ive never had time for thy is sort of faff before.

Exercise is awful for me but going to try senior joe wicks & then maybe a dance class later.

I've not struggled in the past but now am the wrong side of 40. My primary aim is for 1 stone off as I know I would feel physically better & mentally more in the healthy zone.
