Getting fed up with the Government daily briefing

It feels like they are fobbing us off a bit now? I'm glad they do the briefing but who are these people today? and they just repeat the same waffle about tests and ramping things up but they are still not testing frontline NHS staff, just talking about doing it.

YANBU

BamboozledandBefuddled · 01/04/2020 17:24

It's a waste of time. They might just as well put the cat up there!

glastogal · 01/04/2020 17:24

Not answering most of the questions either. I've switched it off. Feels like a bunch of propaganda and nonsense.

Horehound · 01/04/2020 17:25

This guy has been on before.

Mittens030869 · 01/04/2020 17:25

I agree, YANBU.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 01/04/2020 17:25

Yeah I’d rather see the cat.

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 01/04/2020 17:26

Agree. 10,000 tests in the last 24 hours. Laughable.

Eggcited · 01/04/2020 17:26

It does seem rather repetitive and full of platitudes.

Pulppixies · 01/04/2020 17:26

And if they stopped, you’d say they were hiding something. Not every briefing will be useful. They are being forced to do it daily by the public, really. This is what they wanted

Meruem · 01/04/2020 17:26

To a degree though there’s nothing new for them to say. We’re kind of “on hold” now while we all spend the time in lockdown and so they’re just talking for the sake of it!

DisinfectantDoris · 01/04/2020 17:26

I like it. Prefer to hear it from them than media spin. Even if they don't directly answer qs. You can get a lot from their body language, tone of voice and reading between the lines.

turkeyontheplate · 01/04/2020 17:27

Feeling the frustration here too. I don't think they realise how much it adds to public anxiety to be obviously flannelled like this every day. We can't reply on the figures, we can't rely on the press briefings - there's no reliable information out there for us at all. I have NO IDEA whether my city has a large-scale outbreak, a few cases or none at all.

There will be some serious fucking questions for these people to face when this shitshow is finally over.

Marieo · 01/04/2020 17:27

They only started doing them as people were moaning that there wasnt enough info being given directly from the top. The truth is that there won't be 'new' news everyday, but I am sure people would moan about them not doing it as well.

LimescaleCowboy · 01/04/2020 17:27

That was risible.

An insult.

KonTikki · 01/04/2020 17:27

I think it is right to do the briefing, but as it is given daily there is a limit to how many new things can be said.
Me I don't watch it for exactly that reason

Lordamighty · 01/04/2020 17:28

YABU if they weren’t doing it people would be moaning about lack of information.

IronNeonClasp · 01/04/2020 17:28

YANBU.

The situation is being played down massively and someone needs to be believable. At the moment they seem to be rolling out different people and reflecting - "How did we do this evening". Absolute bollocks. We need a leader who will tell us the truth. Then people might stay in !!!!! Hmm

jenganinja · 01/04/2020 17:30

It seems to me the journalist will ask a question eg

journalist: where are the tests

Government person: yes it's important to ramp up testing, tests are important

next journalist: why are Germany doing lots of tests and we're not

Government person: yes, we're getting lots of tests soon

This goes on every day and yet still nowhere near the tests they themselves said we would be having.

And if they stopped, you’d say they were hiding something

That's true. I don't want them to stop. I just want them to get their arse in gear and actually sort out the tests and the ventilators

Marieo · 01/04/2020 17:30

have NO IDEA whether my city has a large-scale outbreak, a few cases or none at all.

Figures are available at county level (the paper here breaks it down into town as well, not sure about elsewhere), do you expect them to break it down at these briefings for everywhere?

EmmaGellerGreen · 01/04/2020 17:31

There’s no point at all to the q and a because they just repeat what’s already been said. The medical lady today was terrible, repeat the data, repeat the message over and over.

jenganinja · 01/04/2020 17:31

The people doing the press conferences seem to be getting lower profile each day too

OP posts:
Dullblue · 01/04/2020 17:33

Thats because theyre all isolating with symptoms 😂

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 01/04/2020 17:33

You’ve summarised perfectly there @jenganinja

Not good enough British Government Angry

defthand · 01/04/2020 17:34

It was propaganda and nonsense from the start.

turkeyontheplate · 01/04/2020 17:35

No, Marieo, I expected them to sort out the supply of tests and the facilities to conduct them during the two months' warning they had that this was coming, to follow the example of countries who HAVE managed to turn the tide through testing and contact tracing and actually test people in the community who have symptoms. I expected them not to lie about, massage and cover up the numbers of infected and deaths outside hospital, so the rest of us would have some sort of handle on the scale of what is happening.

More fool me for expecting anything other than deceit, incompetence and an utter dearth of humanity from these people.
