Getting fed up with the Government daily briefing

It feels like they are fobbing us off a bit now? I'm glad they do the briefing but who are these people today? and they just repeat the same waffle about tests and ramping things up but they are still not testing frontline NHS staff, just talking about doing it.

OP posts:

I also vote for the cat

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2020 19:13

Larry doesn't live there any more does he?? I thought he'd been usurped by Dylan the Dog.

He tweets from Downing St though! Are you suggesting that he's lying? Shock

Marieo · 01/04/2020 19:15

@BasinHaircut they could be honest though and say why there are delays. And also why PPE is still available to buy (albeit in small quantities) and whilst something more sustainable is put into place and the supply chain is up and running, they aren't buying some off the shelf to fill some gaps. It's more annoying to be told soon, soon, soon rather than an actual estimate and explanation.

AdoptedBumpkin · 01/04/2020 19:19

They do seem to be dodging the main issues. Also, they are using increasingly obscure ministers. A lot of people would not even have heard of Alok Sharma.

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 19:27

I always thought Larry looked a bit shifty tbhGrin

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 19:28

Basin-they said they had 10, 000 tests a day in the first week of March. No I do t expect it to happen overnight...but 4 weeks later I do

Alpacasmum · 01/04/2020 19:31

I'm fed up of these journalists asking stupid questions over and over again when the govt/medical people have just spoken at length about what they are asking.
It is the easiest thing in the world to criticise.

LarkDescending · 01/04/2020 19:34

What questions would you like the speakers to be asked, Alpacasmum?

KaptenKrusty · 01/04/2020 19:49

Fucking hell - why are you watching it everyday then? What new info do you have spect them have on a daily basis? We should stay in, they are doing their thing behind the scenes - big changes won’t happen quickly unfortunately!

What do you want?

You’d probably be a lot happier if you just calmed down, took a break from the news and just at relaxed at home

LargeGinOnTap · 01/04/2020 20:08

Yanbu I feel like they are just repeating what they've said previously. Especially when it's not BoJo and/or the CMA and the CSA

cansu · 01/04/2020 20:16

It is absolute bullshit. The earlier ones seemed to be more informative. It has now become totally obvious propaganda. Those slides and the statements around them looked like utter crap. Some of these senior govmt ministers etc need to be properly interviewed.

STAYTHEFUCKATHOME · 01/04/2020 20:19

It's not compulsory to watch them though. Those who find them tedious can just not watch them. If they dropped them to once every few days or once a week you'd have people complaining they were covering up.

And based on threads I'm reading in here and shit in seeing on social media a lot of stuff still needs repeating because there's an alarming amount of people STILL not listening and bending rules so that their own personal lives aren't inconvenienced too much.

middleager · 01/04/2020 20:24

The journalists need to pincer movement. Peston rambled on yesterday. Hugh Pym nailed it but the next journalist needs to say "answer the previous question."

I want Paxman on there.

middleager · 01/04/2020 20:25

I didn't watch it tonight as I am ill and couldn't bear the bullshit again.

They're relying on the old adage of 'bullshit baffles brains'

My mother (74) believes everything anybody in authority tells her.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 01/04/2020 20:27

@STAYTHEFUCKATHOME... we watch them because we expect information. Not just charts and avoiding the questions.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 01/04/2020 20:28

Yes @middleager! PAXMAN.

cansu · 01/04/2020 20:31

agree that t is not about finding them tedious. It's about getting accurate and reliable info. It is looking less and less like an opportunity to ask questions and receive answers and more and more like a propaganda exercise. This actually erodes trust and reduces compliance.

BasinHaircut · 01/04/2020 20:32

@Marieo they have explained though. Re testing, Jenny Harries said quite clearly yesterday that there was a shortage of reagents for the tests.

And you think that using resource to divert PPE available in small amounts from retailers, rather than using that resource to get the supply chains they actually need in place and working is a good idea?

Honestly, leave it to the experts. The available retail stock wouldn’t touch the sides by a county mile.

It is truly hilarious how oblivious some of these comments are.

HereDefenders · 01/04/2020 20:39

The UK was one of the first countries to develop a test back in January. But we are only finding out now that we don't have enough reagents? (if indeed it is true). The forward planning seems so shambolic it is difficult to understand.

HereDefenders · 01/04/2020 20:41

I've stopped watching the daily briefings. I can't listen to the waffle any more. The journalists questions are embarrassingly bad as well. The journalist from the Mirror used his question to ask whether the government would support their campaign to give a medal to NHS workers. I think that was the one that finished me off.

BackInTime · 01/04/2020 20:43

At this point do we actually a daily briefing unless it's a significant change. This is going to on for weeks possibly months. Personally I would prefer if all concerned were able to concentrate on their jobs rather than spending an hour each day repeatedly battling questions from journalists on the same issues.

Klouise777 · 01/04/2020 20:45

Don't like it then don't watch it. It's not like it's the only thing on the tv
I actually find it really useful so I watch it. I find there are programs on TV I don't find useful so guess what? I don't watch them
People just want to find something to moan about. If they stopped them we'd moan about that too

Rinoachicken · 01/04/2020 20:45

When you have NHS trusts begging the public for spare PPE on their official Facebook pages - I’m afraid I don’t believe the government one bit that there’s plenty to be had and trusts just need to call a special telephone number to order it.

WhiteChocTwix · 01/04/2020 20:47

I think we need the main players back. Today was pointless. 🙁

feellikeanalien · 01/04/2020 20:50

It's all shite. No-one seems to know what is going on which is hardly surprising since the only testing is apparently done on those who have been taken into hospital (or if you're a celebrity or a royal!). Every interview I have seen with a heath professional from other countries is emphasising testing, testing, testing.

Because there is no widespread testing here they really have no idea how many people are being infected so seem to be plucking figures out of the air. Even the experts can't agree with each other.

I have given up watching the news because they seem to come out with something contradictory every day.

All that is certain is that our economy is going to be in serious trouble .
