Just wondering if there are any other new NHS volunteers on here doing the community responder role.

I've set my app to on duty as I believe it is supposed to go live today.

No jobs yet and I'm not really expecting any today to be honest as I think it's going to take a while for the referrals to come through.

What does the role involve?

Yes I'm one. I'm pregnant at home so just doing the phone call responder role. No jobs yet but switched to "on".

Yes. I got my confirmation email yesterday and I am on duty today. No jobs yet and there seem to be quite a lot of other volunteers in the area, but I are raring to go

Yes I've switched myself on but my phone has been eerily quiet!

I'm still "awaiting approval"

Yes I'm also a telephone responder as I'm asthmatic. I'm a bit apprehensive as it doesn't seem to be that clear yet what they want us to do..... maybe just pass specific requests on to the correct "next step" do you think?

Yes I'm a bit apprehensive too as the information about the role and what's involved had been somewhat lacking in detail. I think there is supposed to be another email coming. The welcome pack that they sent the link for us just showing as being updated.

There are also lots of other responders within a mile of my house so I'm not sure how busy we are going to be!

I've been rejected
I signed up with my usual name "Nicky" (not my actual name) but my passport is in my full name "Nicola". Bit daft of me not to check I suppose, though I don't recall reading anything in the application about it.

I signed up as a NHS Transport Volunteer and a Community Response Volunteer. I am very new to this and I don't really know what to expect, but from the information I received -

A NHS Transport Volunteer supports an NHS service such as GP, Pharmacy or Local Health Board. A volunteer may be asked to deliver medical equipment, prescriptions, etc to an individual or another location.

A Community Response Volunteer supports an individual and may be asked to deliver prescriptions or shopping to a person who is self-isolating. This role does involve shopping for someone who is self-isolating.

There was another role which was something to do with providing telephone support for people self-isolating but I didn't read much about that as I reckoned that there would be people, e.g. those without cars, able to volunteer for that role but not the other two.

I am hoping that I will be able to deliver some things when requested on foot (more exercise without breaking the 'once a day' rule), and other things in my car (so that my car doesn't sit for however many moths this may be without being used).

I haven't been DBS checked and my application was accepted quite quickly, so I don't think all roles required DBS checks. Some might though.

DBS checks only done for roles involving driving patients I believe. Community Responders role is to support vulnerable people with things like collecting and delivering prescriptions or getting essential supplies for them.

I started this thread for people who are already confirmed volunteers /responders so that we can ask for advice relating to our new roles or getting to grips with the responder app and the processes.

I’ve also just switched my app to ‘on duty’ and am impatiently waiting for something to happen 😊

I don’t know what to expect really, requests to go pick up stuff or call someone, I don’t know whether the call will go out to lots of locals and whoever picks up first gets it? And will there be many details before you say yes?

For the NHS Transport volunteers, there won't be any calls until at least tomorrow, according to the RVS.

Anyone tried to switch the app to on duty today and got a message flash up to say it won't make a difference? My on duty hours have stopped being counted to so I'm wondering if the app has stopped working.

STill waiting on them to confirm my Id since email sent on Sunday, I did send dbs with application so not sure why that’s taking so long, maybe just the sheer volume of people.

yes, I am also signed up and registered as on duty, still to hear anything.

I have signed up for telephone contact and med runs. I can't do the driving people to appointments due to a family member self isolating for 12 weeks, so I don't want any close contact with people.

I'm ready for phone calls. I have 3 children so it's the best I can do.

I think we have to phone them. Does 141 work on mobiles??

It's all a bit strange really. What is the app for

I think it has only gone live today. I'm on duty but no calls to make yet. I believe the phone calls are for those being shielded or vulnerable just to have a chat, investigate of they are ok for food and prescriptions. Also escalate any concerns re very bad depression, health etc. I think the app was originally created for community first responders for resuscitations but they are now also using the app for this purpose. The bit I am a little confused about is we need to allow location but surely for phone calls it could be anywhere. I'm quite rural so probably less need here whereas I imagine in cities there would be more.

Yes I'm signed up and registered since Saturday. The app's working fine for me today. I'm on duty, but not had any requests yet. I think there are going to be far more volunteers than are needed - there are loads of us around here.

Has anyone simulated an alert yet ? It scared the life out of me

I started a thread on this yesterday too, I've been accepted for transport. I've been 'on duty' since Saturday but nothing yet..

@SteamingTheDoorKnobs There are quite a few around here too. With the poor isolated people begging us all to stop calling and leave them in peace

I've just logged out of the responder app and then logged back in again and my on duty hours has now increased to 39 from the 6 that was showing before ( I was on duty for longer than 6 hours yesterday - went on duty yesterday morning , signed off duty overnight and signed on again this morning so no idea how it makes it 39 hours.
