Totally agree Sansa. Those threads are ridiculous.

Somelady · 31/03/2020 21:19

If I actually manage to keep mine from getting sick they won't be going to school till there's a vaccine

WhyNotMe40 · 31/03/2020 21:23

That poor boy dieing alone has absolutely destroyed me tonight. I have been imagining what I would do if it was my child. Would I risk infecting myself and so my other children, and maybe risk leaviy my other children motherless? Awful

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 21:27

I think today has upset me more than any other day-because I really feel like we are being misled now on testing and PPE and the government strategy.
Up til today I'd thought maybe we weren't but it's just one too many fibs. That Robert Peston thing.... I don't know why more people aren't more alarmed.

defthand · 31/03/2020 21:29

@Coquohvan

The Worldometers list is incorrect for serious/critical cases, so how can we trust it’s breakdowns? Look at the U.K. — it lists just 163 serious cases. We know this is incorrect data because the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre released a study of 775 U.K. intensive care COVID cases as of the 26th of March.

www.icnarc.org/DataServices/Attachments/Download/b5f59585-5870-ea11-9124-00505601089b

The Worldometers basic tracking is solid but we can’t rely on the other data as it’s often incomplete.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/03/2020 21:31

Murray - yes I can't get past the government so blatantly lying to us at a time like this s well. I feel very frightened

defthand · 31/03/2020 21:33

“NHS staff are being gagged from speaking out about widespread shortages of personal protective equipment that they fear could risk their lives from the coronavirus, frontline medics claim.”

www.theguardian.com/society/2020/mar/31/nhs-staff-gagged-over-coronavirus-protective-equipment-shortages

WhyNotMe40 · 31/03/2020 21:38

But what purpose do the government have in letting all the medics get ill? It's crazy!
If they are trying to destroy the NHS then don't they realise that it's the same doctors they will need for private medicine?

Oakmaiden · 31/03/2020 21:40

I think the problem with the Worldometer data is they are relying on being told the figures - they have no actual access to anything that isn't publicly published.

So if, for example, up to date critical numbers aren't being published then they can't update them.

I think the basic cases and deaths are accurate as far as possible, though.

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2020 21:40

It’s not intentional it’s incompetence

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2020 21:42

That was re PPE

And yes private consultants are working more in NHS atm too (personally see from appointment booking)

Sassenach85 · 31/03/2020 21:44

These briefings every day have become a huge source of frustration... firstly what a load of shite.... secondly, the fact reporters can not answer back just makes the whole thing pointless

It’s repetitive and let’s be honest it’s all bullshit

I am no conspiracy theorist but I just feel like there is so much we don’t know here

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2020 21:46

Murray I missed the briefing what was the Robert Preston thing?

TheCanterburyWhales · 31/03/2020 21:51

The Worldometer thing was stuck on 20 serious cases in the UK for over a week. To the delight of the "it's only a sniffle" MNers who used the (obviously incorrect and not updated) number as a stick to beat everyone pointing out it couldn't feasibly be correct with.

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 21:53

Give claimed there was a global shortage of the chemicals needed to make the testing kits.
Peston later tweeted that he'd subsequently spoke to a leading supplier of said chemicals who said there wasn't really a shortage and also that they'd been telling the government for weeks that they had what was needed and waiting for their order to come through but that no orders had been placed.

defthand · 31/03/2020 21:53

@Oakmaiden

Yeah exactly. They’re doing a brilliant job with new cases and deaths, but the more detailed data isn’t always reported by some countries (like ours).

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 21:54

*Gove.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/03/2020 21:54

So if the lack of PPE is incompetence, what do blame for the lack of testing now their blatant lie has been caught out?

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 21:56

Quite. But why aren't more journalists going for them with this??? It's just lies on lies and no one is calling them out.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/03/2020 22:00

Maybe journalists have been put under a legal threat of destabilising the nation during a national emergency?

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2020 22:01

They are lying because it’s still incompetence and chemicals was an excuse but not because they’re trying to do off medics.

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 22:07

But prolonged incompetence and then lies about it aren't remotely acceptable.

Freshairimportanttoo · 31/03/2020 22:07

To be honest and I know this will trigger some..

Our NHS needs a massive over haul. It's clunky, wastes time and money.

I've seen it and lived it. Care is not consistent and too patchy.

It's Chaos.
Something has happened, not just in the last ten years but before probably decades before...

It needs radical over haul.

It's totally exposed right now.
The spot light is shining on it. Those hospitals will be the worse coronavirus pits.... There's no separations, quarantine... Nothing.. People go into a and e with suspected corona... No one wearing ppe.... Put on wards then tests slowly come back... Corona... Everyone in ward probably infected..

What a disaster!

Dreadful cleaning I had two nights of shitty cleaners lack luster shoving dirty mop around, radiator thick with dust, food under bed on arrival and leaving.. Disgusting.

There's no hope. They are not strict enough!

Something massive happened in chain of command. Some massive error.

Italian ski trips, peculiar models out of step with rest of world.. Cheltenham, Madrid /Liverpool...

Schools open... No ppe.. No tests.

Nothing. Nothing nothing.

MarshaBradyo · 31/03/2020 22:11

Of course not. But going next level with thoughts about govt trying to intentionally destroy NHS this way is just going to increase anxiety about it all. They’re not. Still very bad though.

MurrayTheMonk · 31/03/2020 22:21

I don't think they are deliberately trying to destroy the NHS. But I do think they are still going for herd immunity and still trying to save the economy over protecting health.
