Oak i think the time has passed to compare to other countries data.

We do not know that each country is counting deaths in the same way.

Do the UK figures now contain those who have died out of hospital? I don't know for sure and there will always be a delay with some cases.

Italy / Spain / France how are they recording deaths? I've read that in italy / france it is only those in hospital but don't quote me on that.

Each country is testing at different levels.

In the UK we have no clue how widespread it is.

Tuesday is always a bad day for the figures.

We just need to hope that what we are doing will work.

PristineCondition · 31/03/2020 15:34

+400 is shocking

VivaLeBeaver · 31/03/2020 15:36

Just heard that a colleague died today. Was fine last week. Started with symptoms over the weekend and died today.

HarrietOh · 31/03/2020 15:36

NHS England said those who died were all in hospital and their ages ranged from 19 to 98. All but 28 of the patients had underlying health conditions. The 28 who did not were aged between 19 and 91.

A 19 year old without underlying health conditions, scary.

Something a little lighter: Wild goats take over deserted Welsh town during coronavirus lockdown

Again though we do not know about their lifestyles - were they heavy smokers perhaps? We don't have all the information, so we can't assume they were all healthy strong fit people.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/03/2020 15:43

400 is horrendous. Sad
@VivaLeBeaver that is awful.

SabineSchmetterling · 31/03/2020 15:48

Only 40 cases are from the ONS data. Most of those ONS numbers were ones we’d already counted. So it’s an increase of about 360 for the UK today.

CrunchyCarrot · 31/03/2020 15:50

That time of day and so time for that chart. Depressingly close to the Italian figures.

SabineSchmetterling · 31/03/2020 15:50

Actually, having read the update again I don’t think it includes the extra 40 who died at home. So it is an increase of near enough 400 in 24 hours. Sad

defthand · 31/03/2020 15:52

That poor 19 yo. Sad

A 12 yo passed away from Covid-19 in Belgium today too. These instances are rare but tragic.

defthand · 31/03/2020 15:55

As of 9am on 31 March 2020, a total of 143,186 people have been tested, of which 25,150 were confirmed positive.

As of 5pm on 30 March 2020, of those hospitalised in the UK, 1,789 have died.

The figures for test results and for deaths are compiled from different sources. This is why the figures for deaths are reported from an earlier point in time than the figures for test results.

defthand · 31/03/2020 15:57

+3009 new cases

Helenj1977 · 31/03/2020 16:00

I was hoping we were on a decline now 😢 This virus can fuck off now.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/03/2020 16:02

@CrunchyCarrot Thank you. As hard as it is to read our eyes are finally opening.

Delatron · 31/03/2020 16:05

I think we are seeing a pattern of a slight decline in the increase over the weekend/Monday (due to delays in reporting??). Everyone including the media gets their hopes up and they report on that ‘measures are working’ and at glimmer of hope’. Then there’s a sharper increase for the rest of the week...

Helenj1977 · 31/03/2020 16:10

@CrunchyCarrot It's strange how close it is. Thank you for you for doing that daily.

DrBlackbird · 31/03/2020 16:20

Thank you defthand I loved the goats.

LottieBees19 · 31/03/2020 16:20

@Helenj1977

The numbers won’t decline for some time the next few weeks are going to much higher. The scientists and medics know this. That’s why they are building the Nightingale Hospitals.
The results of lockdown won’t show for a few weeks.
Try to just take a day at a time. It’s will happen unfortunately. We can only do what the government have asked and stay home.

Gammeldragz · 31/03/2020 16:22

Guardian is saying that's the number that died in hospital, so obviously still not countithe ones who died at home (harder as they need a PM so will take a while).

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 31/03/2020 16:25

Viva, I'm so sorry. I think you and I work in the same profession Sad.

Helenj1977 · 31/03/2020 16:29

America are suggesting it survives in the air. How do they even test that??

Pishposhpashy · 31/03/2020 16:30

The WHO have said it is not airborne.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/03/2020 16:31

America are suggesting it survives in the air Would surprise me, it would explain why the Chinese are using air drones to spray disinfectant from a height.
Maybe they are keeping it quiet to stop hysteria.

EmeraldShamrock · 31/03/2020 16:31

Meant wouldn't be surprised.
