Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

@dairyfairies

I really hope it comes back to haunt them but I have a feeling it wont.
Sadly, as they are unelected, there is no incentive for them to please the public. There is no mechanism by which we can have them removed or even held accountable.

They probably know the little people will grumble in their homes, but they can sleep tight knowing theres basically nothing we can do about it.

Makes me so cross.

What did the queen put on twitter? I'm not on there!

dairyfairies · 02/04/2020 21:15

I doubt she put anything on there. Maybe one of her minions added a one liner. (not on there either but guess we would have heard if it would have been monumental)

audreysview · 02/04/2020 21:21

They'll offer the feeblest of reasons,

If it’s about the queen, they say “she’s 92 years old, leave her alone”

Well ok, so she’s not up to the job anymore, why the hell is she still doing it then. Hmm

LaurieMarlow · 02/04/2020 21:27

And surely the whole point about monarchy is that you’ve loads of backups waiting in the wings?

Charles is sick, but we’ve 38 year old William sitting on his arse in Norfolk. Anne, Edward, Sophie doing nothing of any note. The York girls (who in fairness did something that felt genuine, can’t remember the details though), Anne’s children.

It’s been a terrible show thus far, had to be said.

Peregrina · 02/04/2020 21:35

Anne's son was in Hong Kong, I think it was, advertising milk, or some such.

UYScuti · 02/04/2020 22:53

Why the hell is she still doing it then
she hasn't got a leg to stand on has she, she needs to sh1t or get off the pot🙂

Peregrina · 03/04/2020 07:52

Apparently Kate and William are 'struggling' with home schooling George and Charlotte, 'like most Britons'.

No Kate and William, you are not. You are not stuck in a small flat with no outdoor space with one computer between the household. You haven't seen your income either disappear or reduce drastically. Stop laying it on with a trowel; you are privileged and you know it.

But this was the Daily Express which I couldn't be bothered to read.

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 08:30

Prince Charles is opening the Nightingale Hospital today via video link from his stately home.

More useless PR.

MangoFeverDream · 03/04/2020 08:30

🙄🙄🙄 How stupid do they think we are?

Mascotte · 03/04/2020 08:33

I keep getting stupid “news” items popping up about this pish which just enrages me 😂

Never mind the spreading the virus to Scotland and the home school worries 🙄

Definitely the end, I hope

Livingtothefull · 03/04/2020 08:33

It really pisses me off when I read things like that Peregrina. In my case I am looking after a severely disabled young adult DS who can't understand why he isn't able to go out, trying to get him to do work sent from his college which is closed. And working from home at the same time.

I am not writing this just to moan about my situation; it is just a snapshot of what people are dealing with. There are a lot of us going through things like that and even harder. And that's before you consider that many of us fear for the future eg whether we will have jobs at the end of all this.

Kate and William are not struggling like the rest of us and it is just an insult to suggest they are. I would have far more respect for them if they admitted their privilege and then showed some generosity.

Noodlenosefraggle · 03/04/2020 08:33

Ha ha I'm sure one of their 3 nannies can do some spelling practice or adding up with their kids if they are finding it so hard. How offensive!

alloutoffucks · 03/04/2020 08:44

I think it is good that Prince Charles is doing that. He is obviously ill, and still doing some work. But the younger royals are being a waste of space at the moment.
I agree that saying the Queen makes no sense. If she is too old, she needs to retire.

SleepyNightOwl · 03/04/2020 08:54

I’m just thinking, by the logic on this thread should I feel bad because I have a garden? Should I feel bad because my kids have a large front room to play in? Should I feel bad because I have more than some? Should I also, in that note, be jealous of anyone who has more? The royal family are well off, they have big homes, would you prefer they roam about? I’m happy the kids at least have a garden to go into, just the same way I feel for the kids cooped up during all this.

dairyfairies · 03/04/2020 09:03

I’m just thinking, by the logic on this thread should I feel bad because I have a garden

this is not a thread about people who have gardens. HTH

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 09:04

I presume the public purse hasn’t funded any of that so, no, you shouldn’t.

Livingtothefull · 03/04/2020 09:05

I am not seeing the logic you are reading into this thread SleepyNightOwl.

It is not just that the Royals are privileged that is this issue, but the facts that a) they are hugely privileged beyond most people's dreams and hold that privilege by virtue of their position, b) the people pay them to enjoy that privilege and c) at a time of crisis and hardship, when we not unreasonably look to them for some leadership - to give something back in other words - they are showing unwillingness to do so.

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 09:07

Ffs, try doing it in a poky flat, not enough resources, worried about paying your mortgage and working night and day to make sure your business doesn’t go down the pan entirely.

These two have always been workshy, but this is fucking unbelievable.

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 09:12

@SleepyNightOwl

Your garden isn't funded by the money of those without.

Peregrina · 03/04/2020 09:23

Exactly. They have really misjudged this. I can't believe there isn't some voluntary work either of them could do in Norfolk.

As for Charles opening a hospital - if he's ill he should stay at home and get better.

alloutoffucks · 03/04/2020 09:24

Saying they are struggling with home schooling is taking the piss. What they mean is their nannies are home schooling.

Clavinova · 03/04/2020 09:24

Leighhalfpennysthigh
As someone who was "awarded" the OBE...who has actually trained in helping disabled people...that response says everything we need to know about you.

And I am disappointed to see that an OBE holder who has worked with disabled people appears to condone phrases such as 'loon' and 'human dregs' - not to mention online bullying - yet another 3 hours after the event (you). Thankfully I am not easily intimidated. An OBE holder should set the bar higher - for their own self-respect if nothing else.

SleepyNightOwl · 03/04/2020 09:26

LaurieMarlow Actually I’m on benefits, I also get housing benefit and I live in a housing executive house.

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 09:27

I live in a housing executive house.

Not exactly Anmer Hall then I take it.
