Continued support for those who need a few kind words to help them through the dips.

Please do not come here to ask 'but how do you know if you haven't had a test'

Day 20 here and really wish we knew more about the relapsing that we are experiencing.

I just can't see any information, news seems to veer from absolutely fine over it in a week to the other extreme which is not helpful.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 31/03/2020 11:53

Rachelh26 have you contacted your midwife?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 31/03/2020 11:55

stayathomegardener thanks for the reminder - have just guzzled all the vitamins. I'm also trying to eat regularly ish but only small amounts.

littleblackdress04 · 31/03/2020 11:57

Someone just described the breathing thing to me as like being at Altitude- very true!

pinkoneblueone · 31/03/2020 11:58

My husband and I have been sick for 21 days now so I suppose she was obviously going to get it. I am trying to get her to have a few hot drinks to help ease it she had honey and lemon in her cup of tea a few minute ago she now wants to try turmeric and ginger

Standrewsschool · 31/03/2020 12:00

@stayathomegardener - I agree. Official blurb mentions it as a 5-8 day mild illness, or really serious. Until mn, I hadn’t heard of any other long term fever etc.

Spacecadetagain · 31/03/2020 12:00

Hi everyone. I’m shattered as only had five hours sleep it someone asked if I was assessed in the ambulance or in my house.. they came into my house . They had aprons masks and goggles on but tbh .. it’s not really much to protect them. They both told me they are resigned to the fact they’ll probably get it . I’m hoping I don’t have a horrible relapse .. feel very chesty today but one of the paramedics said that could also be giving up smoking too

Spacecadetagain · 31/03/2020 12:02

I should add that the ambulance team said everyone they are seeing has been ill at least two weeks and while they’d still be classified as mild they are seeing people take a while to shake it .

Xenia · 31/03/2020 12:05

I suspect people will vary too. Whenever I had a cold inthe past I always got at least a week of feeling awful but no symptoms, then the cold, then a sore throat, then coughing up gunk and then feeling week so often a 6 week job compared with most people's short cold, even from childhood. Some people even then get post viral weakness with some viruses so it would not surprise me if some people take longer to shake it off.

I also fear that the Chinese have found that even after you are better you are shedding the virus on to others for a much longer period than current UK guidance suggests you should isolate for.

pinkoneblueone · 31/03/2020 12:06

I just tipped the turmeric drink away as I have had reflux with this and it made me so uncomfortable.

@pinkoneblueone how old is your daughter? My DCs have both had it and in both it has been relatively mild. Very drawn out for my elder DC though, she has been unwell as long as me but less seriously. Cough, fever, chest ache and muscle pains but mild, easily distracted by TV etc. No breathing issues.

I also agree, more info needed on recovery for mild - moderate symptoms. I genuinely feel I could still be suffering from these pains in 2 weeks which would be 5 weeks for me! I have no idea whether I need to be checked or not and don't want to waste GPs time as I know they will be busy.

Just been for a 10 min walk around the block, felt OK, weak but that is expected, chest aches but is more just the pleurisy type pains (i think) than lung issues now i hope. Seems to only be in my back under shoulder blade and lower left ribs now. In one way it is useful as it stops me doing more which I would be tempted to now as I feel OK otherwise.

I would be able to WFH today i think (i am not) as brain fog has decreased but still have energy dips after I 'do' anything eg sort washing, play a game etc.

Someone said upthread the ups and downs are the same but the ups are better (you feel pretty normal) and the downs are less severe and that is exactly how I feel on Day 21.

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 12:08

@pinkoneblueone
Thanks for that.
I'm going to save my tumeric until my chest symptoms have cleared up as I am also really struggling with acid reflux.

Casino218 · 31/03/2020 12:08

@Spacecadetagain thanks space cadet. Did you need any oxygen ,antibiotics or nebuliser? I'm trying to establish if my low grade temp and chest pain needs further investigation or if I should just accept it will take time. I've no breathing difficulties but the description of like being at altitude is accurate.

She is 11 and has settled for hot choc instead. My 15 year old has only had chest pain. My 11 year old is very cuddly though my son has kept his distance.

Casino218 · 31/03/2020 12:13

@pinkoneblueone think my daughter 14 had it but it was quite fleeting and a lot less noticeable than a cold in her.

pinkoneblueone · 31/03/2020 12:19

My daughter is very congested and snotty sounding and I can hear her breathing more as with my husband.

Cary2012 · 31/03/2020 12:20

Hi, just popping in to cheer you all on.

Read a variation of, "Think I did too much yesterday and I feel worse today", so at the risk of sounding boring, I'll repeat my advice:

Rest. Even on the better days. Don't do anything more than you did on your crap days.
Take paracetamol when you are due the next dose, don't wait too long, even if you feel ok.
Immune system. Let it cope with it's priority, killing the virus. It won't do that if you're asking it to cope with exertion, the washing, cleaning, etc will wait.
Fluids: vital, up them.
Food: little and often.

For those new to the thread, I'm certain I had this late Feb, early March, and went on to recover fully.

And yes, I had intense shooting pains, in head, arms and mainly calves. And itchy eyes. Slight cough. Chills. Main concern, heavy weight on chest and feeling like I was being strangled around my chest.

The panic and anxiety because of the epidemic will obviously cause you all to feel fear, it is normal and natural, but please try and focus on switching the news off, whilst remembering that the huge majority of people recover, without hospital admission.

Take care, love to all. The fear is palpable on this thread and I want to give you all a hug.

This too, shall pass. That's today's mantra.

longshot · 31/03/2020 12:20

@Casino218 personally if I still had a fever at this point I would get advice. My GP friend specifically asks me each time I speak to her if it has come back so i think it's important. Could you call your GP rather than 111? It could be a secondary infection. My breathing is now fine (i think) it feels fine anyway and I only have the pains (which are quite bad at times) but I am feeling much more normal otherwise now.

longshot · 31/03/2020 12:22

@Cary2012 thank you, it is so good to hear this. I am worrying now 'i should be better' on day 21 and these pains 'must mean it's coming back' so to read this is reassuring. My body is just getting over it.

stayathomegardener · 31/03/2020 12:25

@Cary2012 thank you so much for coming back! Anyone further down the line is of such a help.

Casino218 · 31/03/2020 12:28

@longshot took it this am again and it was down again. So ??? Also my GP was just inpatient and sounded annoyed last time I spoke with him! It's put me off ever seeing him again tbh.

OP posts:
stayathomegardener · 31/03/2020 12:29

@Casino218 I'm still getting the face flushing at day 20 but maybe only a few times a day now.

I assuming it's just my body working to repair as overall my symptoms are improving.

Spacecadetagain · 31/03/2020 12:30

@Casino218 No they were confident that I was managing ok as sats were so good . They left me handwritten advice in case things should worsen . Today my temperature is normal but my left ribs still hurt and I have upper back pain .

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 12:32

Just plugged my new humidifier in. I'm hoping it helps with this dry back of nose feeling!
Also, I ordered a private test from blue horizon a week ago. It didn't come so my husband rang and they said they have none in stock and would refund him.
Well.....it's arrived
I don't know how accurate it is or whether it will even work at all, but I'm going to do it today.

Casino218 · 31/03/2020 12:33

@Spacecadetagain yes I've been checking my sats using my respiratory nurse friends device. They were 97% so felt that I wasn't in difficulty.
