Iv read today that these strict rules will be in place until June.

I’m going to go insane before then. How are people going to manage? Surely it can’t be that long? China didn’t take that long ?

My anxiety is so bloody high 😩

It's been two weeks here and it's gone so slowly. I wake up and I have no idea what day it is.

I spent the first week worrying about lack of treatment for existing conditions and how I would get medication. Then I had a big flare up of a physical problem and could only think about an hour at a time, never mind a day. I cannot think about all the future days that I'll be spending in pain and barely unable to move because I'm not getting any ongoing treatment.

I absolutely agree that mental health is a massive concern, for me as well as so many others, but people aren't talking so much about existing physical health. I rely on physio/osteopath and pain clinic to keep me going and they are all closed. What about people waiting for surgery who will spend six months or a year or two getting worse? I cannot see a solution but I cannot ignore this. These indirect effects can be worse than the direct effects of the virus.

TabbyMumz · 01/04/2020 08:31

We are only half way (if that) through week 2, and I think we will get through it. I just think however long this takes, it will soon be over and then in years to come we will look back and realise it wasnt so bad. Its affected us all one way or another, but it will soon be over. I try to take a cup half full attitude and not dwell on the sad stuff.

Raaaa · 04/04/2020 14:13

I've found going out for a walk does a world of good and it's something to do each day

mbosnz · 04/04/2020 14:19

I find the method of 'eating the elephant' is working for me, mental healthwise. So rather than fretting about just how long this may be, I take it day by day, week by week, celebrating the end of each week of lock down successfully in the rear vision mirror, with everyone healthy and here.

beautifulteeth · 04/04/2020 14:25

Earliest July

September return for schools

Captaindobbin · 04/04/2020 14:39

Yes lockdown is hard but what is the alternative? Let this rip through the population, destroying the NHS. You think you would then be able to hop along to all your MH appointments and access medication?! Moan about all you like but the alternative is worse.

TestBank · 04/04/2020 14:43

You're going to find out what the alternative is in a few weeks time. No way this lockdown is lasting longer.

Gin96 · 04/04/2020 15:10

I’m loving it at the moment, in the garden, glass of wine and BBQ going 😊 but this will have to end, i’m guessing the start of June for the first wave to go back, the at risk group will probably be 3 months after that.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 04/04/2020 15:10

To the poster who said if you’ve got a roof over your head, food in your belly and internet you’re doing better than most. Yes that’s true at the moment but won’t be for a lot of people soon when companies go under, more people lose their jobs. The government can’t keep furlough payments up indefinitely. The time is coming when both sides need to weighed up

Lunar567 · 04/04/2020 15:45

I think the restrictions will lift at the end of April.
The peak will be over and the government will realise that the economy is suffering unnecessary.

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 15:51

I think the same Lunar

midgebabe · 04/04/2020 15:55

Lift quickly, get a new peak quickly, back to square one with overworked hospitals , lockdown, cancelled chemo etc etc

We have not started to see slowing of death rates. Never mind a flattening, It's taking Italy and Spain a week to go from upward to a downward trend , and they are not relaxing lockdown yet. It took China more than 2 full months to start to relax lockdown, and everyone one was forced to abide by the rules, so that is the quickest you can possibly do it

you probably need to get to tens of deaths per day absolute maximum if you don't want to restart the crisis 4 to 6 weeks later

So all things considered April ? No chance.

MH1111 · 04/04/2020 15:57

The government knows the lockdown will only be effective for so long before there is civil disobedience, they have behavioural scientist advising them all the time.
The lock down is simply to try and manage NHS demand.
Herd immunity and eventually a vaccine are the only way the virus will be stopped.
The lock down will kill as many over the long term as it saves is the short term

midgebabe · 04/04/2020 15:58

Isn't there also a clue in the 12 weeks that vulnerables have already been told...that's mid June

midgebabe · 04/04/2020 15:59

Well I for one hope that the British public are as well behaved as other Europeans. The bristish government did more early on to help people financially, a mistake the Italians made, yet we are not seeing riots there

Wheresthebeach · 04/04/2020 16:00

I think some lifting in June to avoid complete economic chaos. Summer should offer some relief, than it will ramp up to closure in November/December depending on how many cases are being reported. I’m ordering my Xmas turkey early!

southeastdweller · 04/04/2020 16:01

Where's the OP getting June from? There's nothing official out there about it.

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 16:02

Scotland have often said 12/13 weeks and then look at it I’m sure

Wheresthebeach · 04/04/2020 16:03

Also depends on effective treatments being developed. The whole world is working on this so fingers crossed.

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 16:05

@Quartz2208 where’s that been said?

Delatron · 04/04/2020 16:12

Reported on the media that Neil Ferguson is saying potentially measures may be relaxed at the end of May if we continue to follow social distancing rules.
That would make sense to me. A soft relaxation, whilst shielding the vulnerable. Not sure what they’ll do about schools.

Delatron · 04/04/2020 16:13

I do agree we may have a second, shorter lockdown going in to the winter to control the second wave. What I don’t think will happen is we will stay in lockdown for months and months.

madcatladyforever · 04/04/2020 16:15

I don't know what is worse, staying at home all day or still working and driving around visiting peoples homes 15 times a day in my NHS job.
So worried about catching this thing as my health isn't great.
But I know if I stayed at home everything would have a knitted throw on it by the end of this and I'd have gone nuts.

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 16:17

@Mascotte in the briefings will if I can find it

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 16:17

I think they will need to be careful with lockdown over Christmas as this could really really fuck the economy given the amount of businesses that transact a huge chunk of their annual business at that time.
