Iv read today that these strict rules will be in place until June.

I’m going to go insane before then. How are people going to manage? Surely it can’t be that long? China didn’t take that long ?

My anxiety is so bloody high 😩

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-uk-lockdown-could-be-relaxed-in-weeks-says-top-govt-adviser-11968358

So the scientists advising the government has given an interview today where he suggests lockdown may be released by late May at the latest.....

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 04/04/2020 16:27

@MigginsMrs yes exactly a lot of trade is done over christmas, maybe that will be the time when some money will get pumped back into the economy so care does need to be taken. Also I don’t know many people who would be happy to be told they couldn’t see their loved ones over the festive period, just now isn’t too bad not a lot of gatherings of family happen for celebrations at the moment like they do over Christmas, more likely to be unrest then I’d imagine

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 16:31

That’s another point, controlling gatherings will be more difficult when it’s indoors and dark outside and people can’t see people going to neighbours etc

Delatron · 04/04/2020 16:38

It’s frustrating that they are finally going to move on to more testing and contact tracing. Will contact tracing be effective now? Surely that horse has bolted now we’re out of the containment phase?

It does look like the signs are there that some social distancing measures will be relaxed come May. I wonder what they will be?

Delatron · 04/04/2020 16:39

Yeah actually a lockdown over Christmas would be awful for the economy. Maybe they’ll just shut the schools a bit early.

0v9c99f9g9d939d9f9g9h8h · 04/04/2020 16:42

Dela It's better too late for testing and tracing to be effective, particularly if you're starting from a period of relative control (via lockdown).

0v9c99f9g9d939d9f9g9h8h · 04/04/2020 16:42

Never

0v9c99f9g9d939d9f9g9h8h · 04/04/2020 16:47

Herd immunity and a vaccine are the only way this virus can be stopped

This simply isn't true. It's fatalistic and potentially dangerous because you're encouraging people to think a lockdown is pointless. Testing and tracing, in conjunction with social distancing/lockdown measures.

joystir59 · 04/04/2020 16:50

Being bored is a first world problem. Try swapping boredom for being a key worker who is single handedly providing for and shielding two Very vulnerable family members at home and terrified of bringing illness home. And having to walk past fucking selfish idiots who won't even get out of my way.

Delatron · 04/04/2020 16:51

That’s good news about testing and contact tracing. I really hope we can get on top of the virus this way. Without repeated lockdowns.

Amazing article on another thread of how well Iceland are doing with testing, contact tracing and mitigation as a strategy.
I know all countries have different population densities, volumes, cultures etc but it’s good to see some positive news and a successful strategy against this virus. Which isn’t herd immunity!

I saw this article a few days ago about the possibility of using an app to let you know If you've been in contact with someone who's since tested positive.

LimitIsUp · 04/04/2020 17:09

I am not prepared to go beyond end May / beginning of June

We can influence matters. The outraged of middle England (I was following the noise & readers comments in the broadsheets online & contributing) were insistent that dog walkers should be permitted to travel short, local distances by car to open spaces to walk their dogs...... and sure enough, the National Police Chiefs Council issued new guidance to clarify for their officers that this was permitted, and to use common sense and not to be heavy handed in interactions with the public

In a couple of weeks time I plan to write to my MP and be publicly vocal (on local Police sponsored Facebook pages) about the unintended (sometimes awful) consequences of lockdown to just put it out there that a proportion of the public will not be supportive if it drags on interminably

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 17:13

@LimitIsUp I’ll join your campaign.

LimitIsUp · 04/04/2020 17:16

If lots of people make their views known it does influence decision making

joystir59 · 04/04/2020 17:59

Perhaps write to the virus and let it know you don't intend preventing it spreading beyond May

Letseatgrandma · 04/04/2020 18:15

I am not prepared to go beyond end May / beginning of June

Is that a threat?! Grin

Lunar567 · 04/04/2020 18:40

Some older people don't want to be shielded. I offered my NDN to do shopping for them - a couple in their late 70. The lady said to me We are fine. We are managing.
They still go shopping themselves.

moita · 04/04/2020 19:10

Lunar - a couple down the road from us are the same. What can you do?

TestBank · 04/04/2020 19:27

Their choice. They've got an 85% chance of surviving it. It might seem worth it to them

Lunar567 · 04/04/2020 19:38

If some older people choice not to stay at home why everyone is asked to stay at home? Everyone has 85% chance of surviving.

googlepoodle · 04/04/2020 19:50

Stopping daily exercise should be an absolute last resort. People seem almost keen for this to happen. The current regime should be stopped as soon as we can. It’s a horrible state for everyone to be in.

bellinisurge · 04/04/2020 19:53

I'm assuming June as an absolute minimum. It's surely easier to do that than keep getting your hopes dashed.

Inkpaperstars · 04/04/2020 20:04

There is a great deal of ignorance about mental health. Some ocd patients are being treated with brain surgery, in all severe cases yes you would expect a scan to look different from normal.

The only reason more are not having surgery is that it is not that well honed and safe yet.

TestBank · 04/04/2020 20:10

No, the over 80s have an 85% chance of surviving it
My children have a 99.08% chance of surviving it
I have between 97 and 99% chance of surviving it

No wonder people are freaking out if they think it's a 15% death rate for everyone.

Inkpaperstars · 04/04/2020 21:57

No one knows what their individual chance of survival is in reality, and even the averages are based on unreliable data and on specific situations where health care is available. If the virus were unmitigated and health unavailable, then your chances or dying from covid and even more from a non covid emergency rise.

Also the death rate as referred to in some pp is actually the case fatality rate...how many are thought to die among confirmed cases. Given that many cases are never confirmed, it's reasonable to assume the death rate is a bit lower, if healthcare is available.
