Just that really
It's interesting to know others people opinions, As the virus gets worse in uk although we had no new cases or new deaths Since yesterday so far 🤞🏻

It will be extended and at some point soon people will no longer be allowed to exercise outside.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 12:45

I think it would make far more difference to close supermarkets to the public than ban exercise.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 28/03/2020 12:47

Regarding businesses closing unnecessarily, some businesses (especially smaller ones) are being pressured by their employees about closing because they feel exposed.
Also a number of people in the fortunate position to view any time off as an excuse to get some sunshine in their garden and have a jolly up because that's what Steve next door is doing and it isn't fair.

AutumnRose1 · 28/03/2020 12:52

Tea how do you propose people get food if the supermarkets close?

HermioneWeasley · 28/03/2020 12:53

Restrictions will increase within the current lockdown, and it will be extended for at least 1 more week - no country has got away with less than 4 weeks

Good news is that after 2 weeks, Italy are seeing rate of new cases flatten

ilovecakeandwine · 28/03/2020 12:55

I agree with @Bluntness100 but I thought the government wanted everyone to stop work unless essential?
I think the first thing will be getting people back to work but everything like restaurants/ bars will stay shut . The social distancing will be in place for many weeks yet .
Schools not for a while yet .
I could cope better if I could work but the weeks of nothing is a struggle .

Cornettoninja · 28/03/2020 12:56

@AutumnRose1 I would presume the army would be mobilised to issue government rations.

Personally I think we’re a long way off that but if actual food supplies become scarce it’ll happen.

concernedforthefuture · 28/03/2020 13:03

@Bluntness100 No. Most working can continue if a) your job absolutely can't be done at home and b) your employer has taken measures to keep you safe (social distancing). Obviously not including retail / restaurants / leisure etc but plenty of factories, online retailers, zookeepers, tradesmen, some office work and so on...

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 13:10

Tea how do you propose people get food if the supermarkets close?

It would need to be done by increasing the click and collect slots and allowing households one trip for collection per week. And taking telephone orders for older people. It has happened in some parts of the US. Smaller shops would be exempt.

The supermarkets are the biggest spread right now. I quite simply do not understand why people are needing to visit them so frequently. Most of it isn't essential unless you actually need to buy food. I haven't been in a supermarket for 2 weeks (although I did have a delivery a week ago so would have had to go once).

Holdingmybreath · 28/03/2020 13:11

In the next week or two we'll start to get whatever spread all those who were out and about mixing in pubs, parks, parties managed, until that works through we will not reap the rewards of the lock down and will have to extend it.

JingsMahBucket · 28/03/2020 13:11

@ShanghaiDiva were you able to make it back home to China to be with your husband or you still stuck in the UK with your mum?

unique1986 · 28/03/2020 13:14

I'm gonna end up having to do 3 or 4 months at work alone without much help due to others isolating and not able to do the job from home.
Rubbish and stressful.
Like having a co worker permanently on holiday.

AutumnRose1 · 28/03/2020 13:15

Tea - I see. I would rather keep them open tbh. The amount of monitoring needed for that...many Londoners don't have cars, if they are shopping for families they will find it hard to take it all home. So either they have to be allowed more slots or they have to be allowed to use the bus etc.

Movinghouseatlast · 28/03/2020 13:18

Another month, and then another I think.

unique1986 · 28/03/2020 13:20

No idea when companies could advertise for new office staff..

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 13:22

many Londoners don't have cars, if they are shopping for families they will find it hard to take it all home.

^^that is a reason for people visiting them frequently and perhaps they could apply for more than one. I'm not in London, pretty much everyone has a car but there is a hard core of people still ramming themselves into supermarkets on practically a daily basis.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2020 13:22

It depends partly on what the antibody test is like

fedup21 · 28/03/2020 13:24

The schools will HAVE to go back in September, somehow even if they are on reduced timetables/ fewer children at a time in for a term. You cannot keep children out of a school for nearly a year it just isn't even remotely fair on them.

You can’t operate systems based on either they are fair to children or not-its not about fairness, it’s about safety.

DianaT1969 · 28/03/2020 13:25

@shinyshoes2 - how are you feeling now? It does frighten me that you've been out while knowing that you had symptoms of the virus. I guess you must live alone and couldn't think of anyone to walk the dog.
Please - if anyone else has symptoms like Shinyshoes2, don't leave your home for any reason. Get on social media now and ask for help from friends and neighbors. I'm sure some young neighbours would have been willing to walk your dog.
This thing will go on forever if people don't stay in their homes when they should.

Itsjustmee · 28/03/2020 13:26

I think another 3 weeks after this weeks has ended
Then a further 3 week and another further 3 weeks till we get to a min of 12 weeks.
By that time we should have reached the peak and have a better idea on what to do next . This will take us potentially till the end of May .
I also think that we will go into a much stricter lockdown like France & Spain within the next two weeks where we have to print out or have on our phone a reason to be out and where we are going .
I can’t see the schools going back till September
I think it’s possible that some business may be able to restart but doubtful
I hope we have a crap Easter / Summer weather wise otherwise we run the risk of thr idiots going out and potentially riots if it goes on to long
Riots don’t generally happen in the cold and rain 😂

AutumnRose1 · 28/03/2020 13:26

Tea people are "ramming" themselves in? I haven't been to my local Aldi but am told that they are counting customers in and out. Not sure what the number is but it's quite spaced out. I spoke to neighbours on the phone and they said it's nicely quiet compared to usual!

They've put tape on the pavement to show where to queue.

I might go on Tuesday but then again, I might not!!

StormyClouds · 28/03/2020 13:27

The latest projections are now showing that the peak here could be as soon as next Friday. In that case, I hope there aren't any tightenings or significant extensions. I'd hope for a one week extension at the most.

We need to get people back at work and spending and the economy going again.

quiteathome · 28/03/2020 13:33

It will be extended. For another three weeks. Then potentially another three weeks. Hopefully some antibody testing will happen and people who are immune can start getting back into a normal life of somesort.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 13:34

@autumnrose they are now queueing to get in. I find it hard to believe there is still not more spread from this than people exercising. You would cut the spread by stopping it, far more than by banning exercise. You'd rather keep them open, fine but unnecessary spread is a consequence of that.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 13:37

@JingsMahBucket
I am stuck here in uk with dd.
Dh is in quarantine in China about 5km from our house. He does not have symptoms, but 14 day quarantine is standard now. He can have a delivery from outside three times per week so has some decent snacks and fresh fruit and plenty of bottled water.
