Clapping the NHS at 8pm today

Violetdaffodil · 26/03/2020 15:35

I am an NHS worker

To all those of you who voted for the Tory party at the last election, a party that has for a long time tried to destroy the NHS and only realise our worth now that there is a serious pandemic afoot,

and to all of you who were clogging up the beaches, the Lake District, the parks in London etc without a care in the world last weekend

I don’t want to hear your hypocritical clapping out the window for the NHS workers tonight, so PLEASE DON’T

OP posts:
Frigginella · 26/03/2020 22:42

I found it ironic that the neighbours being the loudest were the ones who have been ignoring advice. All for bloody show and the social media photo!!!
What a load of bollocks. And yes I’m nhs

LizB62A · 26/03/2020 22:43

OP - I didn't clap
I didn't vote Tory
I support the NHS and am very grateful for the work you're all doing.
I just couldn't see how clapping would help you at all - only voting will.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2020 22:44

Oh WearyandBleary.Sad Health and strength to you and your husband.

bananaskinsnomnom · 26/03/2020 22:46

Well hopefully, clap aside, this whole year will wake people up and make them vote for a party that will actually look after and protect our NHS and it’s staff.

Having said that I don’t trust any party. It’s just voting for the lesser of two evils normally.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2020 22:48

I would like to say that the feeling of solidarity helps. It helps your community. It helps those who appreciate it.

It isn't material help, but it is emotional support at a time when its needed.Flowers

StormyClouds · 26/03/2020 22:49

@bananaskinsnomnom

The NHS budget has increased by over £40 billion since the tories came to power- and I am not a tory voter.

The issue the NHS has is not with funding- it's with inefficiency. 90% of NHS staff do not provide clinical care- that is why we don't have enough beds.

FlushedZebra · 26/03/2020 22:51

More sickening is the total self adulation 20.01pm on fb ( which I have now deactivated!)
Oh I so great I clapped!! But I off tomoz on my hike as soz need to get out.

I'd just like to say that we're not all like that.

We've been socially distancing like paranoids for weeks. DH has been working from home for 3 weeks now, but they would not shut the schools. Dh has symptoms now - god knows where from, we've been so careful for weeks now - and we are isolating him - not easy when you're a family of 5, but we're doing it. And I'm beyond scared - I'm panicking. We're all in this in some way or other, and I applaud out frontline workers, and I pray god DH won't need their help. And I saluted our NHS workers tonight.

Pentium85 · 26/03/2020 22:54

Tory voter for years.
I clapped, a little bit of support for a close family member who is managing a COVID19 ward.

Shall I take my clap back?

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 26/03/2020 22:57

A few in my very rural street clapped.

Ironically the ones who have been treating this week like an extra holiday and coming and going without a care in the world. Including my neighbours who were meant to have been self-isolating due to 'symptoms' but have been out all together everyday for the last 2 weeks, including many trips to garden centres so they can do the garden up now we're on lockdown!
I'm sure the NHS would rather they followed the rules instead of pointlessly clapping - but it makes them feel superior on Facebook I guess.

Hippydoodledoo8 · 26/03/2020 22:57

@ChickLitLover excuse me? Some of us ARE following isolation rules, voted labour and are grateful ASWELL to the nhs.

Who are you to tell anyone their showing gratitude isn’t necessary or useful? It’s a small gesture that has made some tired, weary and fearful people- Who are sacrificing their own safety in some cases- smile. I know I’d appreciate it in their shoes, just for a minute. Many of the posters on this thread who are NHS workers have said they did.

So your self-righteousness is not needed here.

eddiemairswife · 26/03/2020 23:02

As a mother of two NHS workers perhaps they should have clapped me.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 26/03/2020 23:04

@FlushedZebra I am truly sorry to hear that I really hope you all stay well.
I appreciate you and many others are not like that and politics aside, it just all seems so fake and forced?
I am still seeing so much self centredness despite the advice to just stay home, but a clap makes it all ok?
Employers keeping unneeded businesses going,
Panic and stockpiling, unneeded trips outside, need I go on?
Not really true solidarity is it?
I being labelled a moaner because I wish to be authentic, I am helping in an alternative way but I not boasting about it on SM as its a private matter, but because I didnt stand in a cul de sac like a sheep I am told its not acceptable, or I am mot appreciative!

supercee · 26/03/2020 23:06

@ScarlettBlaize if you say so.

FlushedZebra · 26/03/2020 23:06

Loads of us are following isolation rules, some of us from well before Boris mandated it - like us. I'm pretty bloody sick of this tbh. We followed the bloody rules, and would like to salute our NHS. Because whatever the bloody government - Our doctors, our nurses, our front line workers, are fucking fantastic. Thanks

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2020 23:17

I'll give you a clap eddiemairswife.👏Grin

defthand · 26/03/2020 23:20

For me it was hard to watch the clips from London.

I recall all too vividly the “add oil” chants from people locked up in their Wuhan apartments, the cheering and singing from Italian balconies early in their outbreak...expressions of solidarity, lovely in their way, but a product of boredom, loneliness and desperation too.

Here we are, living that reality now.

Hippydoodledoo8 · 26/03/2020 23:22

I’d like to do another show of solidarity for the people who have lost their lives and their families.

It’s sad that people are looking for negatives behind good intentions. Don’t tar us all with the same brush!

LesLavandes · 26/03/2020 23:25

Lots of you are mean spirited and too uptight.

Chill out. Nothing wrong with showing gratitude like our European neighbours can do without a hissy fit.

I think we're doing it again tomorrow. See you - the ones who can stop their baby behaviour

ChickLitLover · 26/03/2020 23:53

@ChickLitLover excuse me? Some of us ARE following isolation rules, voted labour and are grateful ASWELL to the nhs

Carry on clapping then, that’ll show them.🙄

Loads of us are dealing with the shit-end of this pandemic and can do without your political crap tbh.

FlushedZebra · 27/03/2020 00:24

This fucking pandemic doesn't care if you vote labour or tory. It doesn't care. Just apprecriate the people who are working on the frontline ffs.
